Hey everyone.
I have been breaking chains more than what I think is normal.
I am not sure why tho. I have followed manufacturers instructions wrt chain line, I don’t shift when putting down power (I don’t put down any for that matter) and according to my bike app my cassette should still be good. I have been through three or four chains and the current one has 5 quick links in…

I have been using the nx 11 spd chain and once had a shimano chain on there. My cassette and derailleur are both Sram NX 11 speed from 2019… or around there.  I’ll attach pics if that helps with anything.
And sommer a pic of the latest chain less lean cause why not.

There is another thread about SRAM chains breaking.  Certainly not isolated events anymore.

Apparently the outerlinks shows cracks, with low km on it.

As I said on that thread - is this a case of counterfeit products ?  (their was issues with shimano that was traced to counterfeit chains)  Would hate to think this is the new normal for SRAM ....

That, or the Hub has some riders that should contact the pro-peleton .....

How's chain length? Is it measured correctly, ie with suspension in sag position?

I would assume the lbs would measure it properly. Thats more or less how it looked with the bike in highest gear or smallest cog.

I can’t remember how my shimano chain broke but the sram ones definitely broke because of the side plate braking.
this cassette has been on the bike since day one and I have been through 4 or 5 chains in that time.

My brother took his bike to a well known LBS in Fourways to have a 36T chainring and new chain fitted for a fast and flat race. He found the chain too short as they simply copied the length of the old one....😬 Solved by adding back links

Good luck.

I've seen this a few times on GX chains, never NX though. SRAM should warranty if it happens within a year and with minimal wear.

That said, NX and SX are designed to make you wish you'd spent the cash on GX instead. SRAM's entry level stuff is heinous. (Disclaimer - I'm a bit of a bike shob, so YMMV.)

You're on 11sp, so I'd say fit a KMC X11 or E11 and be done. I've had great results with all their chains up to 11sp - 12 not so much, but that was a while back.

Chainlone looks fine, can't see an issue there.

Regarding the chain length, shift to the biggest cog and send a pic of the rear derailleur in that position.

Okay great. This is the best I could do. The chain is in two pieces and I looked but could not find  any other links. I’m assuming two are missing.

It sounds to me like you need a new bike

One with Sram and one with Shimano so I can do a comprehensive comparison.
