I see some guys are selling parts on this site for obviously ridiculous amounts of discount to the actual worth. I can’t help to think that it came from stolen bikes. I also recently acquired about a certain cassette and the seller couldn’t answer my questions.

Who can do some detective work?

I have said it before and will say it again: you can only sell high end bike parts to fellow cyclists…. The market is actually relatively small. So in a way we somehow allow bike theft/ bike jacking to continue or at least assist in maintaining a market for stolen goods. Its not like stolen tv’s or electronics or phones. Only cyclists can use the stuff. If there are any doubts don’t buy it and for those that do… you are an accomplice to a crime somewhere. You know when you know…..

thanks for raising this.

I don’t have any proof so I’m not going to post a link, but a newish GX 12 speed cassette for less than R500 have me seeiing red lights. The said seller is on this site for a year and has posted 228 ads..something doesn’t up.

Indeed

my Bike was stolen and I was alerted to some one trying to sell it

long story short, he returned bike to police after being shown my stolen ad

he claimed to be a cyclist but saw nothing untoward about buying a bike from someone on the street for a “bargain”

sickening

I have said it before and i have said it again. If you don't think people on here and people in your riding groups are not buying parts of stolen bikes or stolen bikes/watches. You are lying to yourself...

There is definitely a thriving trade in stolen/boosted Garmin watches. Just have a look on FB marketplace. Someone fences them to a guy it owuld seem to get some cash and then he trades in them. I found a set of Swarovski binoculars for R 10k in Hermanus which is an unbelievable price. When i wanted ot meet to see them physically they were sold to another person who prepaid cash. Now i am on his list of people he sends bargains to on Whatsapp. So i get the "specials". Very interesting.

Where there is a demand there will be a supply.

Hey All! thanks for your messages. I can't see the ad anymore on FB, but looking at the sliver of picture I can see, it definitely looks very familiar 🙂

Will do some follow ups to see what happened to it, but more out of curiosity at this point rather than trying to get the bike back

A start is to hit the report button on the suspicious adverts, please. We'd very much like to be aware of such things.
