I'll get it and read it just to be sure, but I would have said the author would have been Douglas Adams and the book Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. 

 

B.t.w. Douglas Adams was a good friend of the Pink Floyd crowd and played the guitar himself. He once lived in the same apartment as Mark Knopfer and jammed with him. He didn't know who Knopfer was and tried to tell him how to play. Needless to say. Knopfer is rated as one of the top 10 guitarists of all times while.Adams was not very good at the guitar.  He had a dream of being a rock musition though, and for his birthday Pink Floyd invited him to play a couple of songs with them. Nick Mason afterwards said that his rythm was so bad, that he, the drummer, had to follow to make the thing work. Adams said that it was the single most terrifying thing he ever did and that it instantly cured him of that particular dream. The recording is rubbish, obviously taken by a mind-altered fan, but this is it!
