Posted by one one of my fellow runner friends: Fellow "Klapperkoppers", be careful out there!
Sunday Werner, Marna and I ran to Klapperkop, we ran at 15h00, due to church in the morning.
Jonty joined us on his bike and was going out and back to do some training
Jonty cycled towards us (front) and said there were zebras ahead, which made us all focus on about 250m ahead of us, I could see a man, taking photos of the view and zebra.
Suddenly there was 3 men and they looked to be having a scuffle, initially looked like they were all together, but there was random panic, we could not really tell who were the good guys or the bad.
Werner was shouting which seemed to have scared them off, when we got there, they had been trying to rape the woman (odd) but she was getting dressed and there was another man with her, bleeding, iphoneless and rather upset.
It looked like our arrival had saved the situation for them, I was glad that it had not turned out worse for the couple! They are a lovely couple and I was glad to have been there to help them. I think they were from out of town, as they did not know where the police station was.
Be careful out there!

What about a organised mass ride from KK to Brooklyn Police station to hand over a petition demanding foot patrols, or police on horse back....?? just a thought?

Arrange a date, time and meeting location and @BicycleSafetySA will let the word out to get as many cyclists as possible to attend the ride to hand over a petition to the relevant Police station Commander.

My mother in law and her husband was mugged and tied up in Groenkloof today. They were hiking on the yellow route. All their belongings was stolen and they were left behind. The two thugs walked away with no hurry at all. This is in the middle of the park. What was shocking is the fact that the staff of Groenkloof was not really interested in helping them at all. Shrugged their shoulders and said they saw some illegal people in the park yesterday and chased them away. Sad.

Groenkloof tweets that it happened and they are fine. Yes they were physically unharmed but they are not fine. They wont be fine for very long time. Seems to me the only ones safe in Groenkloof these days are the thugs and they do not have to pay entrance fee!!!!

I know this is hard and its really not great that our spots are taken away from us like this. The Groenkloof issue started a while back and I stopped going there because of this and its not been resolved. What I find even more facinating is that Groenkloof is making money of the cyclist and hikers so to prevent this at all cost makes sence , still they choose not to do anything about this

Saw this post on the Pta East Facebook Group from Heather Muller

"Warning: Be careful when riding at Fort klapperkop. Was riding this afternoon (07/02/2015) on the tar when I saw 3 suspisious men run out of the bushes, over the road infront of me&down the hill into the bushes again. When I came back up the hill I found they had just mugged 2 men. The 3 "suspicious "looking guys had held them down at knife point, mugged them of all their valuables/ car keys, etc leaving them stranded. Word of warning - dont stop at view points and keep cycling."

Be careful out there.

Will somebody with some organisational skills (not me) please get this off the ground? Will certainly join.
