Hi Retro / vintage gang

I am needing some help - My father is moving house and his Peter Alan circa early 1980's needs to find a new home. In very good Nic - dura ace gearing, Modolo breaks and cinelli bar and stem. 56cm size 

not vaguely sure of a price to sell - but willing to take advice and some offers

Hi DrRichard. Unfortunately the current trend by the retro/vintage gang is only to value bikes which have a complete groupset and not a mismatch of parts as was very common in the 70-80's. Selling the bike as it is you are likely to get between R2,500 to R3,000. 

Stripping and selling off the parts you are likely to get far more than this. For example, that Dura Ace first gen crank (GA-200) is worth R1,500-R1,800. The Modolo brakeset in that condition about R1,000, Mavic FD R350-R400.

The frame and fork could get you R1,200 to R1,600.

I've replaced the rear derailleur with  an old XT 9sp. Beautiful thing about 9 sp is that all MTB and Road groupset components are interchangeable. So the 9sp 105 STI works perfectly with 9sp XT derailleur to give me space for the 32T in the back, might even take it up to a 34T or 36T if I can find something cheap somewhere. 

Got an Adamo Peak saddle for 100 rands on bikehub to replace the "green thing" .... 😁

The chain on the 11T cog of the cassette catches the frame, but with a 53T on the front the 12T is fine for now. I just adjusted the stop-screw to stop at the 12T.

... just need to tubeless the 38c tyres, then I'll head onto gravel somewhere :)

(future change might include another crankset?) .. but very happy to use as is 🙃

Hey man, where did you get those 27.5 rims? I’m interested in doing something similar with long reach brakes?😃

those are 700c rims, not 27.5 😃 .... the 38c tyres and the 30mm-deep 700c rims might create illusion that it is 27.5 rims?

Wow I didn’t even know you got some of those older bikes with that much space for bigger Tyres . I put on 25mm tires on my vintage steed and there is probably just enough space for a hair between the tires and the brakes

mine isn't quite from the time when all bikes were 'gravel bikes' 😁 ... but yes, some of the pre-70 bikes have some nice clearances. 🙃

Good afternoon, vintage Hubbers!

So, I scored this old bike from my dad when they started doing renovations a few weeks ago, but I've only had time now to upload the pics.

Asking advice - what do I do? Do I modernize fully, or partially? Do I do a frame strip and respray, trying to copy the existing stickers? Where do I get a bike this old (circa 70s) serviced even? I'm not a fan of the levers sitting on the bar ends, frankly weird place to put them, but it seems it was a thing back then.

I want to make it rideable (read bearable), so I can enter some retro events. Learnt about this one just this morning.
