I mean, have you seen Woodmead drive on a Saturday? As it is William Nicol is a nightmare on weekends, now we want to proper screw ourselves and gridlock Fourways by choking up Witkoppen too... In fact, Fourways can't cope as it is... Adding Makro into the mix will surely make it an undesirable place to live. That's what I like about Magaliessig, it's quietly tucked away, the hidden gem of Fourways. This development wil surely have an impact on my property value and I feel strongly that the "hangers on" around the Makro will not result in that impact being for the better...

I feel the infrastructure around the suburb and the Fourways area will need a massive cash injection to deal with the traffic' date=' motorised and human, that a Makro will attract. It is this attraction that brings negative elements and this is what I am strongly opposed to. Magaliessig is not an industrial or commercial zone. Now we're taking a massive commercial outlet and dropping it on the doorstep of this suburb. The area they plan to use borders a natural wetland and bird sanctuary. While I'm not a huge environmentalist I must concede that the plan is ill conceived. There is also a retirment village right next to the proposed site. I doubt those pensioners would have bought in the village if they knew they were going to have a bustling bazaar on their doorstep. They also will be doing away with a pretty darn nice nursery to make way for the Makro. What a waste...

Adding to that... people going to the Makro from the Drainfern and Diepsloot areas will cut through Lonehill (Mulbarton-Lonehill Blvd, Franschoek and Leslie Rd) adding to the traffic there as well. Property values will take a knock.

Try cycling past makro on HPotgieter on a Saturday, where the taxis park two abreast in the emergency lane!!! Then you will understand how much makro adds to an area's degradation!!!

I know and agree and this is why I believe the site they have chosen is plainly a bad idea...

I agree with no Makro at that spot. It will make picking up race numbers an even bigger problem!

William Nicol carriers too much traffic already.

I live in Magaliessig and I'm not thrilled about the idea of having a Makro on my doorstep. Yes' date=' I might not have to drive as far but then again, driving to a Makro was never and issue for me. The road through Magaliessig is pretty much buggered after all the trucks that went along there when the office blocks at the Design Quarter were built. The road took another hammering while the driving range was being built too. The Makro will surely increase traffic in the suburb and make the road even worse. I was at builders warehouse an hour or so ago and couldn't help but notice the throng of unemployed people gathered outside. So while I appreciate the Makro might create jobs, this will come at a price. I don't want to drive out of my hood and have to fight my way through taxi ranks, hawkers, 20 million dudes walking through traffic selling Fake Bans and Fakleys, hundreds of unemployed guys hovering around the exit fo the Makro as if it's an oasis of employment...

Take that Makro somewhere else..

I work for Massmart' date=' the Fourways store is going to be unlike any other. Trust me you want it. How can you object to a project which creates 350 short term jobs and another 250 permanant?? [/quote']

mackie, you sound just like that very friendly lady on the street corner last night, and I was also not convinced after her aggressive sales pitch.  Point is I don't trust people that tell me to "trust them", or tell me that I "want it".

I passed through the chaos of Fourways today. Man I miss working there, like I miss a hole in the head. Now I know where the Makro will be. At least it's not another abandoned car dealership. It's right in Pornstar's back yard too. BTW the two yound ladies protesting with the "Stop Makro" banner can come over to my place and protest any day. They didn't look like undesireable hanger oners too me.....

I say build away, but if makro had any sense. They would put their Bulk infrastructure contribution levies into upgrading the roads etc around fourways. Giving it to the City fathers, it will simply dissapear into someones back pocket eventually

as cyclists i find that when we do our monthly shopping at makro it leaves us with surplus funds and we spend not even half of what we usually do at checkers or pnp.

i can understand the congestion but it isn't an isolated occurrence because cycling past pnp i find that the traffic there is ten times worse because there are more people.

the makro in edenvale down the road from us there are no taxis... not even parked two abreast... makro's parking lot whether it here or fourways is large enough for a hundred taxis parked two abreast. each makro parking lot comes fully equipped with a decent sized taxi rank.

The area you're referring to though is not as overdeveloped as the Fourways area though. I've also been to the Edenvale Makro, but it's a pleasure because there isn't half the commercial shopping centres around as opposed to Fourways.

I think it also helps that it borders on an industrial area which is pretty quiet over weekends.

Kya Sands would probably be more viable for Makro.
