Firstly hello All from Ireland I miss you!!!! Now to my story.....

This is Ironic.

I leave SA for greener pastures of no Crime Bla bla bla.

So I come to Ireland, find some work and buy myself a Racing HT for comutting of course.

As we in SA ride quality afterall and nothing else.

So anyway, Saturday evening or should I say Sunday AM I come out of work and go to get my bike out of

the restricted area to Customers and low and behold my bike is missing a few item.

These Little Bastard ****s Stole my Saddle,Seatpost & Collar, My Magicshine Light, and of all things

my Flippen handle bar grips. All in excess of R3000. So I know its petty but darn how **** is that?

So Yes SA might have its problems but now I guess the rest of the world is no difference...

PS It seems my 10mm chain worked on keeping the bike there. HAHAHAHA

My brother lives in Sydney. He's been broken into and had his laptop and camera stolen as well, theft is everywhere. At least there they rarely put a bullet in your chest and rape your wife in front of your kids because not only do they want your stuff but they hate your guts as well.

Hey Cap, I was taught to never have credit unless you need it so never had one in SA. Now I wish I did as they wont give me one overseas for atleast a yr.

True, the chances of you getting robbed/killed in civilised countries are much lower than in this f&&*(()ed up place. And when you get attacked, don't dare to defened yourself because you may be charged with assault, attempt to murder, murder!

Great story of your adventures in ol' Ireland, rad...

Keep on going strong!

Staying negative about one's place of stay makes life so much harder. And it doesn't change a thing. B)

My (locked) bikes were stolen every 3 to 6 months in London. The last one went from the central reservation of Oxford Street during peak Christmas Shopping. Several thousand witnesses watched it go. In the end I gave up on insurance and just bought the stolen ones at 70 pounds a pop. 3-6 months use, then off to 'rent' a new one from Brick Lane market.

In some areas the theft was pretty well organised - for example, white vans cruising Upper Street in Islington, pull up next to some shiny new ride and liberate it in a matter of seconds with an industrial pair of bolt cutters.

I have yet to have a bike stolen here. But maybe that's coz they cost more now and I don't lock them up outside any more.

I had a hard time with bike thefts in my year in London - cretin white trash scalies!

I thought I had a good lock - NOT! twice I had my bike nicked, but 2nd time got paid out by London Cycling Campaign, they had a Insurance option to their membership. Also the sight of only a frame left locked to a railing was a sad reminder of how anything bike was there for the taking.

My bkes are kept in the basement because they will be stolen if they are in the garage.I have never in my life seen so many black painted bikes as there are in Europe.

I had my saddle and and bottle cages stolen off my bike at gym.

At least here they won't shoot you for your bike, but you have a good chance of it getting stolen here.

I hear from a friend running a bike shop in London Bridge there is a pretty cool new city-sponsored scheme where participating employers will subsidise you 50% of the cost of any bike under 1000 pounds. You can also pay it off in monthly installments for a year. Apparently bikes have been flying out of the shops there for the past few years.
