I am absolutely apalled. Hence just another reason that I am taking my little kids out of here and off to Wales at the beginning of August. The crimes being comitted are horrendous and the perpetrators getting younger and younger. I dont need to subject my family to this.

To the lady, my heartfelt thoughts are with you. Your courage to fight is remarkable and I only hope that you will have a speedy recovery.

To the man that helped her, you are a true hero, I only with that all South Africans would stand up agains this type of abuse / crime, take a stand and fight back.

To the little f#$%$#er that even contemplated 'taking" this route and committing this horrendous crime, may you find your just rewards in prison and at the end of the day, may you be judge properly by the Lord.

very very difficult to never cycle alone if you're female.

That's exactly what my wife says.

She tries to stick to busy routes, rides with (heavy) puncture proof Schwalbe tyres so she has less chance of being stuck fixing a flat somewhere unfriendly when she rides alone, but says she can't live cooped up just because she's female.

What a messy state of affairs we find ourselves in when we're no longer free to do what we love.

Am not sure if your wife is riding a road or mountain bike but I bought a R70 'thorn proof' tube a few months back and have had no punctures on the rear. Have suffered a couple on the front so I will now put one in the front. They weight a bit but so what?!

well done to Anthony for helping.

i hope the lady is ok - as word says, it's incidental that she's a cyclist - the mere fact that someone tried to rape her is disgusting.

i truly hope that the cops catch him AND that they aren't the "window dressing" cops who will let him off lightly in their own language and only pretend to do anything to him - would be much better if it's real cops who teach him the lesson that we all know the law won't do.

From the description it seems like this lady was riding alone. Not sure on the area, but riding alone isn't a wise idea.

Why is it lately whenever crime strikes in SA we are so quick to point out what the victim did or did not do to prevent the crime.

Hope the lady is ok something like this can stay with you for a while.

Yep, she doesn't care about the weight, and so rides them on all her bikes these days!

Those thorn proof tubes sound interesting - where did you get them?

It's a sad reality of the country we live in bud. People are out there with ill intentions and all they need is the opportunity. Like I said - not sure on the area so didn't jump to conclusions, just stated a sad fact.

Slime extra protection at Sportsmans Warehouse. They weigh around 800g each. I train with them just for the added weight. Not nail proof though.

Cajees in Krugersdorp. They are a bit heavier than normal tubes but so far no punctures (I also use tyre liners).

i cant help but wonder why - what would make a 16-year-old do something like that?

Excuses, lack of respect for oneself and others, lack of compassion and love for others, being taught from a young age that you can do whatever you like as long as you blame it in the name of culture.

Guess what ?

It'll get worse as even our esteemed leaders have gotten away with crime, so the example to follow becomes the norm.

Very well said, we are all expected to live behind bars and not even enjoy the freedom of out own country whilst the real animals are roaming free.

Geez, those are HEAVY tubes!!! They ought to be pretty much bulletproof!
