Well said Dangle. I agree fully

Excuses, lack of respect for oneself and others, lack of compassion and love for others, being taught from a young age that you can do whatever you like as long as you blame it in the name of culture.

Guess what ?

It'll get worse as even our esteemed leaders have gotten away with crime, so the example to follow becomes the norm.

Unfortunately he will probably be tried as a minor (if he is caught, and the system actually works and he gets to court) and will then have his record (if convicted) expunged at the age of 18.

If we could resort to mob justice I would be all for it, although we would then be lowering ourselves to his level. It would be satisfying though.

A speedy recovery both physical and emotional to the lady cyclist, and well done to Anthony.

All the best to the lady and i wish her a speedy physical recovery and i really hope she will be able to deal with the mental anguish that comes with this because this is mental baggage.

Youth is supposed to be the future of a country but unfortunately this country when you hear the word youth you imediately have a racial/crime mental picture. This is however how i feel anyway.

Well done to Anthony! The kind of citizens we actually need here

may i suggest something? you can get a "shockgun" the size of a cigarette box these days, that produce 20 000 Volts. All cyclist going on remote/dangerous roads should get 1 and attach the pouch close to your handlebar. Don't use if you are confronted with a gun, but for the rest it will assist, as it can knock somebody out for 5min.

very very difficult to never cycle alone if you're female.

Agreed. Recently ventured out on my own on a ride (love riding my bike) along a popular route in Gauteng and narrowly escaped an attempt at getting me off my bike.

Take care out there!

Very well said, we are all expected to live behind bars and not even enjoy the freedom of out own country whilst the real animals are roaming free.

Do you know what the differences are between us and criminals?

On New Years Day my wife and I were MTB'ing in the most serene setting in the Tsitsikama area when all of a sudden there were three men standing by the side of the service road deep in the forest. I honestly cannot claim that they had any intentions, but what were they doing in the middle of nowhere?? We wished them HNY and cycled past without incident. Have to say that I felt very exposed after that, and that's as a man cycling with his wife!

Not cool. I ride on the Nooitgedacht/Magalies/Hekpoort roads by myself very often. This incident is pretty scary...... but having said that, I've used these roads (often back roads and quiet ones if I'm exploring) for the last 5 years without incident.

I wish this poor lady a speedy recovery from this traumatic experience

Absolutely makes me sick. Hope the bastard gets what he deserves. Imagine what damage a big chain ring and chain with his man hood caught between would do.

It's becoming a bit like the wild west out there. There were 2 attacks in the cane in Umhlanga over the weekend according to EMBA.

1. "Just to let you know that I was attacked on Saturday morning. It happened in exactly the same area as the attack a few weeks ago (also Saturday morning). I am sure it is the same two men as the description fits. One small man and one taller younger man. The younger one threatened me with a rock while the shorter one had a nasty looking knife. They only got my glasses and some lubricant (both were in my back pockets) and missed my cell phone which was in a pouch on the cross bar of my bike.

I was not hurt in any way. When I saw them I tried to turn around and ride off but the younger one chased me and was threatening to throw that big rock, so I stopped as I knew he could do some damage if he hit me........"

2. "Just wanted to let you know about an attack in the Umhlanga cane area.

On Monday 27th December we were riding home in the cane. We crossed the Umdloti tar road and I was halfway up the climb.

An African man ran up to me from behind and grabbed onto my shirt and pulled me off my bike. He wanted my phone.

I dropped my bike and ran towards the other two men cycling with me. He drew a large knife out his waistband and shouted that he wanted my phone. I threw it to him and he ran off. We were fortunate to be unhurt …just the phone was stolen....."
