Knowing you - a HUGE SADDLE BAG Torque wrench? How much does it cost? Do I need a bike stand? Then I neem a manual. What is the best? Book or that DVD that they are selling in the bicycling? The combination of online shopping, impulse buying, and credit card is going to bankrupt me one of these days..... now where did I see that Superlight...

Between this and my handbook i can pretty much do most things without spending $$$ on course.

Zaskar Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Do your self a favour and get a copy of "The Barnett's Manual of Bicycle Repair". Its like 680 pages covering everything to do with bike repair. I think updates are avaialble every few months coveing the latest components all broken down to show how to repair them your self.

You so right !!!! Helps when he goes to school 4 hours in the morning and works the rest of the day in Justin's workshop. He is busy learning to build wheels, can only be beneficial (to me that is!).

Guest Big H Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Also get the right tools for above BB. A "third hand tool" for brakes and a cable tensioner can be invaluable. Also get a proper cable cutter or use the simple old angle grinder judiciuosly for clean cuts. Use a sharpened spoke to open up the hole before inserting the new cable. I also heard, but never tried it, that if you heat up the section of cable you want to cut with a lighter you can cut that section with normal sidecutters. In a recent bike mag they had the definitive method for setting derraileurs. Find it and study it. It makes life so much more easier!!!!!! Barnetts is a good book. I have a copy that I downloaded in Pdf format when it still was "freeware" I do not have the updates however and it does not cover the "new" 10 speed Shimano drivetrains. It does however have info on the 10 speed kempekkeknoglia thingies (cannot be describved as real drivetrains as they are unrelyable)!!!!!! teee heeee !!!!! Keep some in your saddlebag when your kempekkernoglia drivetrain throws your chain. Greasemarks on the white new fancy kit that is the rage does not work!!!!!!
