Does anyone know if lights were put down in the tunnel at Hartebeespoort Dam? It was sad to see one of the three break-aways crash there on Saturday. It seems he broke a collar bone.

And as for the poorly marked sprint just after the tunnel- No banner, just a piece of tape over the road and a dude with a clip board! The riders didn't realise they had to sprint.

Even the winner of the stage said the time split board showed to them was inconsistent. Whoever was in charge of it, the riders don't want to read all the other crap written on there: just the TIME split, for goodness sake. The board looked like a take-away menu.

Fester my friend, I like your post, putting yesterday's fiasco aside, it's the little things as you mention here that get's my goat more, in the end of the day the words World Class is just that, World Class.

I can't see why such a don't care attitude has to be portrayed, this is real poor show.

I have spoken my mind in earlier pages....I just HOPE that the rest of the tour will go smooth and end on a positive, BUT thereafter somebody will have to step forward and take the pain and RESIGN for this fiasco!!

agree. TOSA is on now and we all need to take ownership of what is left - all cyclists. Talk about it to people and make the aware of what is going on - that is the best we can do if you cant get involved.

lets flame the powers to be when its done - no matter the outcome.

What happened in Johannesburg is just a reflection of the general attitude that non-cycling citizens have towards cyclists and cycling in general. This will never happen in a European country. As a South African citizen, I bow my head in shame.

That happens(lead bike with time splits) when you give jobs to pals. More concerned about son in the bunch than feeding information to breakaway group. Phil must have asked about time splits around thirty times during stage one. Think for one moment how the stage leader felt not knowing what was happening behind him time wise.

Massive logistic, organisation and money goes into the road closures for the 94.7, even then there are festering angry motorists trying to drive through the closures. It's obvious that the organisers here are just plain and simply naive in this regard, and failed to do their homework.

I was one of the motorcycle marshalls on both stage 1 & 2, and with out getting too involved in the bickering of who should carry the can, it was quite interesting to notice the differance in the attitude of the Tshwane and Johannesburg motorists.

Tshwane people seem to be far more law abiding and accepting of events being held through their streets. The attitude of the Johburg motorists seem to get worse as we got closer to the "money belt". It is quite clear that Metro has absolutley no authority nor respect, and our motorists just don't give a ****. Come on guys it was a Sunday!! I would just like to thank the Think Bike guys for putting the lives at risk and taking all kinds of abuse in an attempt to do what Metro should have done in the first place.

I believe CSA wanted road closure on the short circuit but werent allowed it, they went ahead anyway. There's no saving the situation, once that call was made.

The 'showcasing' of Jo'Burg / Sandton is a big motivation - it's a good idea, good for spectators, good for the sponsor. I'm told CellC put up USD70,000.

It's probably hard to convince them that the race should end in a (safe) mielie field somewhere.

Is this not a point...I live in PE and have not read or heard anything about tomorrow, I know about it because I have been looking as CSA website. But the general public of PE know NOTHING...NOTHING...

How can it be a success then....PLANNING is missing!!!

after reading 17 pages! I have nothing positive to add... :(

STOP funding CSA!!!

They are a controlling body and should have outsourced this entire event...but they want all the money for themselves?

I can understand why motorists are so angry at cyclists. This was just before they closed the road for the race. And they were not the only group.
