  1. Didn't see this topic. I had a Tacx IMagic and now a powerbeam pro. Just had another no hassle session on the powerbeam with the iPad app this morning. No comparison in ride feel and quality, powerbeam for the win.
  2. A self driven cart with a cyclist ahead warning that follows 100m behind you?
  3. I don't believe it does. There isn't a standard for trainer resistance control yet. It would be very difficult to update the existing powerbeam pros to support the standard when it is launched. They will be quick to support the standard in new models though. Cycleops are very good in giving access to their proprietary controls if apps want to support it but I don't think garmin will support it in the edge series.
  4. Yes the cycleops PC app that uploads the garmin file to the 'cloud' has all the smoothing options. It's definitely needed.
  5. Just use the tacx iPad app?
  6. I use the iPad app. The workout portion is very elegant and the most used feature. I also ride some of my garmin files but without video. The nice thing is after any ride it will show your 3min, 30min etc max power for that session so every session is a fitness test of sorts. I tried a user course with video. There are many courses but the tacx videos are more polished than the user created cycleops ones. You can stream any video or download it to the iPad. So if you have internet at work you can do that. In the end like all things iPad it just works. I haven't tried the PC version.
  7. I moved from a tacx to a powerbeam pro / iPad combo because the tacx software was just to much of a mission. The powerbeam ride feel is better for me but I only had the I Magic tacx.
  8. You can read all the research but basically: - You need to accelerate the mass of you and the bicycle, not just the wheels. The wheel inertia is a very very small portion of the total acceleration force. - The actual acceleration of a human on a bicycle that you need to plug into the equation is not that high. Taking a switchback and then getting back up to 20km/h in a few seconds is not serious acceleration in terms of the force equation. There is allot of placebo effect with 'climbing wheels'.
  9. Agreed on the 200 grams. I upgraded my standard Roval wheels on my Epic to Crests saving more than 200g and I just cant feel the night and day, feels like a new bike, accelerates like lightning difference people always proclaim. Yes it's rotating weight and it's unsprung weight but in reality 200g wasn't a game changer for me.
  10. For this large feature set it almost makes more sense to just mount your phone on the bars and run an app since it requires the phone in any case.
  11. Been there, I have a cycleops now that works and a windows xp only ( and even then only on some days ) tacx gathering dust.
  12. A 16 year old broke into my dad's house a few weeks back and stole about 6 bottles of 15 and 18 year whisky. They caught him two days later but him and a few friends had already finished all the whisky that afternoon as though it was Namaqua papsak. Must have been a smooth hangover.
  13. I have a tacx I-Magic that I stopped using out of frustration and now a Powerbeam Pro. I would definitely recommend the Powerbeam. The iPad software is very stable, it's silent with the trainer tyre and the ride feel is good. It would take a bit of convincing for me to ever buy a Tacx trainer again.
  14. This is the kind of thing you expect at a traffic light. A police raid is in order.
  15. They will also take the step to only allow 'real' mountain bikers. Credentials to verified by hubbers at the Spruit or Tokai, no more of this Euro Pro easy route stuff.
  16. Sharing your thoughts with the world has become to easy, the Epic not so much.
  17. That's the same scenario I am picturing so very plausible. I can't understand how people say the events leading to the fight are irrelevant. It would make a massive difference to public perception of the video and thus cyclists, greater even than publicly punishing them with every possible consequence.
  18. Every cyclist on this forum would politely apologise for inconveniencing the driver, offer to replace all the water sachets that were used to teach them the error in their ways and sommer buy the driver a Bells while they're at it. I'm with you. The cyclist were wrong, no doubt about it but people don't react like that without extreme provocation. But then again if something similar to your scenario happened why haven't we heard their version of events yet?
  19. Agreed, what if a video of the preceding 2 minutes showed the van purposefully riding them of the road or passing them and then purposefully stopping in front of them trying to injure them. Would all violence still be considered wrong by thehub jury? Perhaps then the people in the van would be considered the mob? If they were simply taunted it's a show of bad character, if their safety was threatened it would still be wrong but the public outcry would be less and the brush we all get painted with allot smaller. So in the interest of the sentiment against cyclists the full story will help over and above the swift action against these thugs.
  20. With the current generation Shimano brakes the metal pads have been quiet and plenty powerful for me. Resin pads can disintegrate within a few km's in mud.
  21. Amazing and sad what people will do when they are part of a group.
  22. There was also a support vehicle with spare wheels for the pros in East London. I've always believed it's a fitness contest and no female should be punished for not being proficient with a chain breaker for example.
  23. Then I agree on replacing it rather if the quality is suspect. I replaced mine with hopes as part of a complete wheelset change but they didn't give any problems so I wasn't aware of their suspect nature. Being stranded on a trail or worse during and event is not worth it.
  24. I would just replace the bearings in the hub because I can't really see the performance upgrade another hub will give you. It will still be a housing for bearings with eyelets for spokes. If with new bearings you experience the same problem after a short time proving the sealing is poor replace them but otherwise just keep them.
  25. Is it just me that doesn't want FINISHER printed big on my shirt? Just a small 70.3 2014 logo would be nice so I can wear it without trying to tell the world I finished a race. This is off course not relevant for now because my medium is bigger than a large so wearing it isn't an option regardless. Merrel certainly didn't win any customers by getting involved, now we just know their sizing is wacky and the shirts are poor.
