  1. Difficult to remove makes them a non starter for me. Why battle with that when one can buy a lock-on grip?
  2. The drifta resolution is 320 x 240, I don't think it will be acceptable.
  3. I almost smashed my screen.
  4. You have a strong life saving IT background and you use your work email for a childish taunt. You do this because it is linked to your banking details for a deal where there was never going to be money changing hands. Given the critical security level and highly specialized nature of your job I hope you just had an off day.
  5. I worked on the northern border of Mexico in a town called Reynosa for a while and anybody who thinks you can stop violence by bringing (bigger) weapons to the game should go there. The army patrols the streets in armoured vehicles with machine guns constantly scanning. It doesn't stop the drug cartels, they just carry rocket launchers. You cannot stop violence with violence and you will not stop bike theft by carrying a gun, you will just be the reason another cyclist gets gunned down as the game becomes more violent.
  6. You forgot Don't have time to train, try these quick 3 hour workouts
  7. She must save a little longer and get a powerbeam pro for ~R10 800. R7 500 is not hitting any value for money sweet spot.
  8. Can't really blame Spez. Epic Comp is more than enough for 90% of riders but SA people love operating high up the scale of diminishing returns for some reason.
  9. You can also buy it ready made: both 9/100mm versions and 10/135mm versions. My 2013 Epic came with this in the front. http://www.dtswiss.com/Components/RWS/RWS-Thru-bolt-en I then bought the hope pro 2 9mm end caps from CRC for my new wheels to keep that skewer.
  10. It will work fine. The 142mm spacing is the same. A normal 142mm hub uses the same flange spacing as a 135mm hub with the 7mm being added to the part outside the flanges. The 142+ makes use of the opportunity to make the actual flanges wider. So a 142+ might not fit on any frame but a 142 will fit on a 142+ frame.
  11. No it's designed for 135mm dropouts. I don't even think 120mm dropouts will work which is a shame because for ergo workouts a single speed would be perfect.
  12. Can't agree more with your user experience. My profile is summomtber, haven't been very active yet but entered Karoo2Coast this week and the training starts now.
  13. Didn't see this topic. I had a Tacx IMagic and now a powerbeam pro. Just had another no hassle session on the powerbeam with the iPad app this morning. No comparison in ride feel and quality, powerbeam for the win.
  14. A self driven cart with a cyclist ahead warning that follows 100m behind you?
  15. I don't believe it does. There isn't a standard for trainer resistance control yet. It would be very difficult to update the existing powerbeam pros to support the standard when it is launched. They will be quick to support the standard in new models though. Cycleops are very good in giving access to their proprietary controls if apps want to support it but I don't think garmin will support it in the edge series.
  16. Yes the cycleops PC app that uploads the garmin file to the 'cloud' has all the smoothing options. It's definitely needed.
  17. Just use the tacx iPad app?
  18. I use the iPad app. The workout portion is very elegant and the most used feature. I also ride some of my garmin files but without video. The nice thing is after any ride it will show your 3min, 30min etc max power for that session so every session is a fitness test of sorts. I tried a user course with video. There are many courses but the tacx videos are more polished than the user created cycleops ones. You can stream any video or download it to the iPad. So if you have internet at work you can do that. In the end like all things iPad it just works. I haven't tried the PC version.
  19. I moved from a tacx to a powerbeam pro / iPad combo because the tacx software was just to much of a mission. The powerbeam ride feel is better for me but I only had the I Magic tacx.
  20. You can read all the research but basically: - You need to accelerate the mass of you and the bicycle, not just the wheels. The wheel inertia is a very very small portion of the total acceleration force. - The actual acceleration of a human on a bicycle that you need to plug into the equation is not that high. Taking a switchback and then getting back up to 20km/h in a few seconds is not serious acceleration in terms of the force equation. There is allot of placebo effect with 'climbing wheels'.
  21. Agreed on the 200 grams. I upgraded my standard Roval wheels on my Epic to Crests saving more than 200g and I just cant feel the night and day, feels like a new bike, accelerates like lightning difference people always proclaim. Yes it's rotating weight and it's unsprung weight but in reality 200g wasn't a game changer for me.
  22. For this large feature set it almost makes more sense to just mount your phone on the bars and run an app since it requires the phone in any case.
  23. Been there, I have a cycleops now that works and a windows xp only ( and even then only on some days ) tacx gathering dust.
  24. A 16 year old broke into my dad's house a few weeks back and stole about 6 bottles of 15 and 18 year whisky. They caught him two days later but him and a few friends had already finished all the whisky that afternoon as though it was Namaqua papsak. Must have been a smooth hangover.
  25. I have a tacx I-Magic that I stopped using out of frustration and now a Powerbeam Pro. I would definitely recommend the Powerbeam. The iPad software is very stable, it's silent with the trainer tyre and the ride feel is good. It would take a bit of convincing for me to ever buy a Tacx trainer again.
