  2. My wife rides a new carbon RC 6000 and even though I am not a Raleigh fan, I can only say that the bike is awesome. After every ride my wife has a big grin and tells me how wonderful it rides. Value for money - no doubt! My only gripe, albeit unimportant, is the horrible wheels that the RC 6000 comes with.
  3. I've replaced two in two years or 20 000km. Sounds like my LBS is pulling the wool over my eyes?
  4. Just remember that the cutoff for A was an index of 13 or less. With some guys moving out of VA and VB this cutoff will decrease so some of those who elected to ride A with a index closer to 13 may find themselves in B. The start order is A, VA, B, VB with %, VM and then C onwards.
  5. We normally come down from Westville so we go home via the M19.
  6. Yes can be a big ride. Has everything' date=' hills and some very fast flats, not as flat as riding the circuit at the beach front. You get to mix it up with Pro's and some damn good Vets. Saw Owen hannie hanging onto the back of the ride on Tuesday, the day Andrew decided to bring "a healthy dose of pain" to the ride! [/quote'] The beach front circuit is as flat as a pancake! A bit chaotic now because its easy to for anyone to hang on to the fast guys on such a flat route. The groups get really big on a Thurdsday.
  7. OK - so its a BIG ride in terms of numbers?
  8. How far is this Engen to Engen ride and what is the ave speed?
  9. PT Std R5299 or R5999 with wheel. - Ibike ' date=' you have to add R700 for the cadence sensor and more if you want HR sensor. [/quote'] So there's nothing in it from a price point of view!
  10. At R 4460 recommended retail price is'nt that nearing the price of PowerTap? What does the entry level PT cost?
  11. Just had a look at the site' date=' thanks - do the guys mind out-of-towners joining in (especially if they are Gauties ) Also, surely the A group doesn't ride at 25km/h? Things aren't that slow down there are they? [/quote'] Er no - the website must have changed (25km/h?!). There is a group that leaves from "Bring it On Cycles" in Kloof who should be in your league. Phone the shop on 031 7641937 for more info.
  12. Bruce - the best rides are inland leaving Westville or Kloof. See www.westcycle.co.za for ride times.
  13. Just been at my LBS (Cervelo dealer) and saw all the photos taken by them this past weekend. They certainly mixed it with all the CSC guys and had plenty of opportunity to chat to all the guys. It seems to have been well organised from what I could see in the pictures and from the commentry given with each picture. If you have R 15k to throw at that and went - well done to you. For those of you who don't have R 15k to spend on anything - carry on moaning!
  14. King Zing - a bit of a waste to put such nice wheels on such a cr@p looking bike!
  15. Dr Seuss - how does the alu Soloist compare to the R3?
  16. You get yellow and red cleats for Ultegra. The yellow ones give you more float than the red ones. Just check what you have. Yip - I got the yellow ones. I'd go balistic with the red ones!
  17. I ride an alu Soloist with D/Ace and FSA components. I'm on my 2nd frame as the first one cracked on the seat post below the clamp. My 2nd frame is also starting to crack there . Despite that I am very happy with the bike. However I must agree, if you can afford the carbon then get (purely for the bling effect) it but remember the alu bike is as fast both up and down a hill!
  18. I recently changed from Look pedals to Ultegra pedals because I could not stand the squeeking Looks any longer. However the Look pedals had more float and were more comfortable on longer rides than the Ultegra pedals. I also find the clicking into Ultegra pedals a little harder than the Look pedals. I have not used Time pedals but with my experiences with Look and Ultegra I would most definitely buy Time pedals next time around.

    Helmets

Bell Sweep R - comfortable, light, good ventilation and affordable.
  21. Micheal Rasmussen as well. Both are great for training find a balance as to what works for you and go for it. Hmm... remember Rasmussen's TT in the TdF last year? Not much of his MTB skill on show there!
  22. ugggh terrible value, paying an extra 3 or 5 grand for the team issue is a good deal - which doesn't even cover the upgrade from ultegra to dura ace, never mind the zipp wheels. In essence you are buying last years alu/carbon frame raleigh 7000 (available at 10-11k) and then paying an extra 10 grand to swop out the frame for carbon- insane, Gumpole - the team issue is basically unavailable unless you got an allocation in the initial order. Secondly the carbon frame is completely different to the alu frame in terms of geometry - I bought my wife the RC6000 Carbon yesterday and compared it to the RC6000 that she has. They are worlds apart. Now, I'm not a particular Raleigh fan but I got to say that the carbon bikes are really nice - the geometry is really aggressive.
