  1. it is allowed, except when its not
  2. Eddy Merckx is quoted as saying “Ride as much or as little, or as short or long as you feel, but ride” my philosophy this week has been “Ride as fast or as slow as you feel, but ride” next week I’m away, without a bike, so enjoying the rides I can do now
  3. Many years ago Holdfast had a very similar rack to this At the time it was one of the few foldable racks on the market. One particular morning i was sitting in traffic behind a car with one of these and decided I was going to make one. Did the design in my head on the way to work, put it on paper when I got to work and over the next month in my spare time i made the thing. But I designed it so that it would be a 2 bike rack, and then had an extension that bolted on for an extra 2 bikes for the few occasions it was needed. I could not design a tilt mechanism for the boot to open, but on one trip with 4 bikes to Rustenberg the entire rack bent. When we got to Rustenberg we stopped at a hardware store and re-inforced the rack by putting square tubing inside the uprights after we had bent them straight. But we left just enough bend in for the boot to open. this thing weighed around 15 off kg, but served me well for many years. I'll have to find some printed pics as it was used pre digital camera days.
  4. A Facebook memory that popped up. Given the direction this thread went I think it’s appropriate.
  5. I see Dr Michael Mol is riding for charity .
  6. running whilst crouched over holding the saddle is tiring. I eventually jammed a broom handle in the triangle behind the seat post going all the way down to the BB. That way I was able to run upright. (i think I picked up that trick on thehub)
  7. That face says it all
  8. Need to change the title to Dad and Child for those of us who have daughters to deal with.
  9. Nice race report DD. Thanks for sharing.
  10. Good to be back on the bike again. Been feeling really drained since 947, I’m convinced I had some sort of bug, so I took some time off. lekker ride this morning, no plan other than the route.
  11. hahaha, have had that happen too. I once chased a guy in jeans with a back pack. It was up a 2% gradient, I was doing 30km/h and barely gaining on him. Although in my defense when i caught him I spotted the cycling shoes and riding style and a quick chat revealed he was no ordinary commuter. But still, it took me a good few km to catch him.
  12. I love it when a commuter joins me on my morning ride. Very often they are rather strong, but dont have the stamina to keep the pace going. But always lekker to have a quick chat or a bit of banter with them, seeing the big smiles on their faces whilst keeping up with you.
  13. I think what peet is alluding to is that your calls and emails go to a lacky in the store and never further up the command chain to someone that actually cares what happens
  14. the dog does not look impressed
  15. For those looking for deal also check out topdogtoolshop.co.za They appear to be having some decent specials, although I dont know the regular prices of the stuff so cant really say if its good or not
  16. So as suspected, the leaf blower is a bit on the underpowered side for the bigger jobs, it does an ok job on it, but I've got the crappest paving ever (they call is cobblestone, but its just broken bricks layed in a rough pattern with huge gaps between). For the light to medium duty stuff its wonderful. And being cordless is such a pleasure. The lower power though makes it great for places like the courtyard where the high powered blowers just send stuff flying in all directions. I'll probably keep a close eye on the higher powered blower and look to buy one further down the line.
  17. A brief test of the blower last night and I suspect it may be a little underpowered for my needs, will try and give it a proper test this weekend. (although even if its underpowered for the big jobs, it could still be a useful tool for the smaller more frequent jobs, so it wont be a total waste)

  19. Is it level with the block removed ? If so then leave it like that, the block is only there to raise the front because in most cases the rear sits higher than the front when on a trainer, hence the block
  20. but he is saying its the opposite, front is higher than the rear
  21. are you sure you didnt buy their indoor bib ? Almost made that mistake the first time I bought, luckily there was a sales assistant on hand otherwise everyone that would pass me riding would see more of me than they wanted to.
  22. my apologies for derailing your thread Fond. I hope for your sake this guy is found. As you've said, a short fuse does not excuse such actions.
  23. Not cool. The few times I've ridden there I always got the feeling it to much of a free for all with to many not adhering to basic road rules etc. Was this tri athlete in team kit ? If so, I know of 1 of the teams that regularly trains there and if needed can probably get you in touch with their coach.
  24. As mentioned before, was eyeing this deal and it was tempting me. They did not drop the price today but I decided WTH, its a good deal let me go get it. Then whilst browsing their site this morning I noticed this leaf blower. I've been wanting to get a new one since my old corded one was holding on with its last legs, decided I'll try my luck when I'm there and see if they can knock some more off the price. They dropped an extra R100 off. As it was an already good deal decided to take it too. These are direct from the SA distributor. Apparently the clearance sale is because WORX is changing distributors in SA so they are clearing out stock. They had a fair amount of stock in the warehouse, so I'll keep checking I'm sure they will push more deals as time goes on.
  25. statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital
