  1. A friend wanted to get into cycling, but was torn between new being too expensive and not comfortable with the risks of a secondhand bike. I told him to wait out the holiday period, and by late January he picked up a Trek for some 30% off .... These sales are so predictable. You just need a bit of patience. And thus the astute buyer KNOWS that the "good 2nd hand price" is actually too close to the flash sale price. My last couple of bikes were all bought on these flash sales. SAD for the person that paid full price for the bike .... but it is what it is .... (been there myself, paid the school fees and framed the T-shirt)
  2. You dear sir are not going to make it in sales, nor in marketing ..... Sales and marketing LOVES "sports enthusiasts" !! The most gullible market !! I was reading something a pro-photographer posted. I know him, and I know his work, as well as his gear. EXCELLENT photographer. He has the "eye" for his trade. He has the patience and skill the catch the best photo. Yet he uses decent, but not the latest, equipment. In fact, very few professional photographers use the very latest kit .... except guys like Grant, Justin and Riaan who are "brand ambassadors" ... Go to a photography club. Look at the amateurs if you want to see THEE latest and best equipment .... And by the way ..... camera equipment has barely better secondhand value than bicycles. Yes, the pro's love the amateurs .... especially those that cash in after a few months ....
  3. My Varia is paired with an Edge 530. It seems to switch to the "off-then-flash mode" by itself .... would love to get a more consistent way to use the Varia Personally I prefer to have it on a steady flash mode, then go into the adaptive flash as a vehicle approach. Thus being of use further than 150m, as well as the additional alert that comes with the adaptive flash. Having it ON, then flash as vehicles approach is simply not an option on long rides, as the battery dont make it home.
  4. Pieter consider a session with a biokineticist. IF there is some underlying issue they can help to pin point the route cause. That is the most difficult part. From there they can quickly assist with targetted training for the real issue. Edit : physio vs bio .... my recent experiences shows a significant overlap .... both might be able to find the cause, though a bio may approach it more from an exercise and muscle measurement point. The bio have sent me to a physio for massage or needle treatment, even ultra.sonic. then back to the bio for a recovery exercise plan. I know some physios do help with this as well .... lots of overlap !!
  5. Entered 👍 Now to split the weekends between park runs and more CYCLING ....
  6. 7-speed cluster ? Sadly see this all too often. Really should not see it on a decent cassette.

  8. All valid points .... Fact is that a new bike does not hold its value. Nor will you get your money back when doing major upgrades. I ended up with a 26" bike that has done minimal milage, bought December 2019, and by the time the world opened up again Maritz had outgrown the bike. The realistic bike value is less than the parts on it, which I can use on our other bikes .... so the bike is in the rafters awaiting its date to become a donor. @NotSoBigBen sadly I used the original parts to help a friend (who sold his revamped bike a few weeks later) .... else I would have swopped it back to original speck. Lesson learnt.
  9. Popped in at CWC nice semi slick 650B 1.5 tyres, road use, not the gravel you are looking for No 650B gravel options in stock. Also nothing at SportsmansWarehouse.
  10. Kindly also contact the administrators of the Hub. They dont take kindly to "bad business practices" on the Hub. @Matt

  17. Speak to Janos at Evobikes. Not sure what they have on the shelf right now, but they do often carry stock of this. CWC often has on the shelf, while not reflecting on their on-line store ..... SportsmansWarehouse is another to keep an eye on.

  23. I have the same experience. Sharing Martiz's journey on the kids cycling threads, I would post pics of a new bike. Same day I would get offers for his old bike, decent market related offers.
