  1. Valve lights. They're also handy for the motorbike on events like the frozen butt run;-)
  2. Oiy, Dangle, don't be so pessimistic... I had 100% confirmed (scans and X-rays) bursitis in my hip staring April this year. I didn't listen to the doc at first and after 6 weeks rest and just a little bit of training I tried to do the Kremetart. Needless to say this had me back at the doc and at a biokineticist and a physio. Accepted, I'm only on 50km rides now but it does appear that a very slow recovery program works. I did spend the first month on anti-inflamatories and I was only allowed to use stairs for even only 1 floor after 6 weeks, but it does look as though I will manage to do the 94.7 without pain (provided I continue with this slow and careful program) Proper diagnosis is definitely the first step to recovery, as is a very conservative recovery program.
  3. Ok, so after 15 pages I am 100% sure that there are more courses scheduled for this year.... JOHAN, email me the schedule please (and indicate which dates have space on them). In all honesty the only problem I have ever had with Yellow Saddle was having to wait for my bill to be able to pay!
  4. Ouch. I have a very similar pic at home (following an incident at about 60kmph). Crashed the Sunday, returned to Jhb on the Tuesday, got my Ti plate on the Thursday and went back to work on the Monday. Was back on the idt during the week I went back to work. They refused to give me peth... Had to settle for morphine up until I left Durbs, then again both the surgery to add the plate and then remove it. Morphine sucks compared to peth :-(
  5. And what about motorbikes? And as has been pointed out, cyclists getting around a stationary vehicle in the cycling lane? This particular pothole has been around for ages and NOTHING has been done about it for ages. That this has now been "repaired" will more than likely result in the roads dept rushing to fix it correctly now.
  6. RIP. condolences to all
  7. Hmmm, Randpark Ridge... We've most probably passed each other at some or other time (although this winter I was caged due to a stuffed up hip, but back on proper transport as of next week)
  8. If you only ride bicycles then whichever side you prefer. If you also ride a motorbike you are more likely to be comfortable with front on the right, especially if you do a lot of marshalling (need to control speed perfectly) or track (imagine feathering the wrong bike at over 100kmph)
  9. As mentioned, prescription lenses can only be done up to a certain level. I currently have Rudy Projects with RX insert and will continue to spend my money on their products - medical aids have spent a total of over R25000 so that I can see, 2 families donated organs in the process. My eyes and eyesight are not going to be messed with. I have previously had Bolle's also with inrt, they we amazing, but the cost is beyond my pocket (my pair had been sponsored and went AWOL in my 'shova crash). The best is to get a good optometrist and chat to them and take their advice.
  10. RIP. Condolences to his family and friends.
  11. You will not regret buying that Giant. It is a brilliant bike.
  12. I rode my old TCR (road bike) for 8 years and was always of the opinion that it was good enough. It had carbon fork and carbon seat and chain stays. I bought myself a new toy last week - full carbon TCR advanced 2 and took it on it's maiden ride on Friday. After the second corner I was 100% convinced that I had not wasted a single cent of the cost. I know that a lot of my happiness is also the upgrade on components, but it does have a completely different "feel" to my old bike, despite the same geometry and the same set up.
  13. I am glad I got my advanced now... I prefer the plain white and black :-)
  14. NP, mcippolini :-) Thanks
  15. As Krans says, I am a chic... My couch, my blanket (contrary to what the cats think) and I was one of the pioneers of the couch photo thing ;-) My mtb sleeps next to my bed and when I have visitors round my road bikeS get the bed, so allowing them on the couch is insignificant! (the dogs, however, are not allowed on any furniture)
  16. Will be going for inaugural ride tomorrow. I have lusted after this for ages.
  17. Listen to the guys who are saying to go get it checked out. I kept doing the "oh it will get better by itself"thing and ended up on Celebrex. Twice. First time I didn't do the "ease back into it" and physio thing so ended up back in trouble. Am now doing things correctly going to physio and bio (maybe that's why it snowed) and at last things are looking good. It really is not worth the potential problems of not doing it right. You may think you're ok, but you are actually compensating for the injury. Then you never adjust back to normal and then any other injury/overuse issue is just aggravated.
  18. OK, I think I'm going to have to work from home a bit... I'm smack bang in between Sharonlea and Fontainbleu!
  19. Got a call from the LBS... New toy has arrived. My long weekend happiness is now dependent on Bicicletta delivering the handlebars tomorrow (toy comes with 40cm and I need 38cm)
  20. I'm waiting in aaaantici..........pation for my LBS to call about my latest purchase. Once I get her I'll post a pic ;-)
  21. Not good at all. Here's hoping he makes a full recovery.
  22. Contact Linden cycles. Joneen will be able to assist with advice and info.
  23. I am very relieved to hear that Tahlie is haling and extra glad the they've allowed Serenity to be with her. Please keep us posted as to her progress and healing.
  24. Hope she's better soon. Must have been utterly terrifying for them both :-(
