  1. Magalies...enjoying the last of the summer green....soon to be replaced with the winter blackness of 'veld fired' landscapes!
  2. http://www.magaliesmonster.co.za/DisplayLink.aspx?group=Entry Info and Registration&name=N/A
  3. Licence revoked and fined only? Should be sentenced to 5yrs in chookie. And a kick in the gob....
  4. Doesnt this just change the height of the handlebars and not the actual distance from the seat to the bars?
  5. What is wrong with riding a Titan at a big race?
  6. I have done a couple of the full distances but last year I did the short route with some friends and it was a lot tougher than I thought it was going to be!
  7. I have this one, cheapest I could find compared to bike shops etc http://www.weardirect.co.za/fluorescent-yellow-vizi-jamit
  8. I use thermal inners from SW and normal long finger gloves over them. I generally buy whatever gloves are on special at the bike shops when I have to replace them. As long as they have that snot rag bit on......!
  9. I used to have bleeding Avid Elixir brakes.....
  10. Chillis are supposed to be a good natural fat burner by speeding up your metabolism!
  11. Anyone get a pic of the crossing? I assume then it was just after the abandoned house that you would have ridden 'through' and then you would have gone over the furrow and then followed the river upstream? I didnt go and look at this section.
  12. Was the river crossing this section in the pic?
  13. A friend and I went for a ride and watched some of this race around Magalies and Koesterfontein on Saturday morning. I did see a problem in the Koesterfontein area (attached pic) where you left the main dirt road to make a left turn into the veld up the hillside. There should have been a marshal here as we saw a lot of people overshoot the turn and have to turn back. It was also pretty chaotic on the dirt road out there and my friend was kakked on by a local who thought we had something to do with it as we sat watching the riders! (as well as a couple of people who shouted cheaters at us as we cut across the veld!). There should have also been warning signs on the dirt roads to let locals know what is happening, normally we see a 'Caution - Cycle race in progress' sign but not this time. The route in the Koesterfontein area could have been a lot better. We have mailed the organisers in the past to see if they would like assistance for routes in that area but I have never had a reply. This is an area where I ride everyday (and used to live!) and there are some nice routes in the area so dirt road riding could have been kept to a minimum.
  14. I have a Epicon, bought it a couple of years ago and it lives on my 26 HT. Works fine and is (on mine anyway) adjustable from 80-100-120 to 140mm. Its done many thousands of K's and never had a problem. Easy enough to service yourself as well. I am not sure on the new ones but on the old one to adjust the travel there is a small pin you need to gently tap out and place in another hole. RS has plastic spacers. If I didnt have to muck about finding an adapter for the steerer and one for the 15mm QR on my wheel, I would have this on my Trance over the Fox F32 that it was sold with. http://muddygoose.wordpress.com/2012/10/27/adjusting-the-travel-on-the-suntour-epicon-x2/
  15. Apologies, I read that as a bit of a joke asking why you cant eat meat 3 x times a day!
  16. No issue with Ghost on the first frame warranty, didnt bother claiming on the second one, had enough. No issue with Omnico on a set of Tektro brakes on my GT a few years back. No issues with Omnico on the Fox fork and shock on my Giant, that was in the last few weeks.
  17. I watched that Scots guy who cycled the Americas (cant remember his name) on TV a while back, I think he was/is a vegetarian but also had to change his diet to include to be able to get through his trek.
  18. Approx 150 billion animals a year are slaughtered, that should be enough to make you think about how you can adapt and change your diet....for the better, for you and for your children's future....As someone pointed out they eat what their mom taught them to eat... http://www.adaptt.org/killcounter.html And if you think you are tough enough have a watch of the Earthlings video... http://earthlings.com/ Although I think very few on this forum, regardless of how 'tough' they think they are, could watch it! What is interesting for me (and extremely depressing at the same time) is my dad is in the stages of alzeheimers, his diet over the years has included lots of meat and a lot of processed meat (was on the road a lot so take aways etc were commonplace) After doing some reading it looks like the processed stuff is particularly bad (viennas, russians, polony, bacon etc etc) and not only causes cancers but can also have a link to alzeimhers....something I hope to avoid.
  19. The best thing anyone can do for the world and your own health is to cut out/cut down on meat.
  20. Sometimes if you look real hard in Magalies, especially at local watering holes at month end, there are still signs of early man here.......
  21. I agree on the Epicon, easy to service and adjustable from 80mm-140mm, to be honest I kind of feel its better than the Fox F32 I have on another bike.
  22. What hubs? You going to do them or take it in to the LBS?
  23. Had an issue with my Fox 32 fork, it was sent down to CT for repairs a couple of weeks back and I got it back yesterday, put it back on the bike and unfortunately the problem reappeared (thankfully just as I left my property!) I was pretty upset but Omnico then said I could take the fork through to their Midrand branch (as opposed to waiting for the bike shop to send it in etc etc) and Jason would have a look. He stripped the fork down, found the issue and after a couple of hours I was heading back home with my repaired fork. Jason took the time to explain the workings of the fork and parts which was well appreciated as now I know whats what in my fork.
  24. I live around here and ride these areas quite a lot, there are a couple of hills and a few rocky sections but if your fitness is good and you keep to your pace, you will have no issues and it should be an enjoyable ride for most!
