  1. My old Mag32 Suntour fork had a lockout switch that you could remove (gently prise up) and reposition on the splined shaft, prehaps its been located too far one way or the other when assembled if that makes sense?
  2. Absolute rubbish in my opinion. Its broken 3 times (and ironically all the times I was JRA! Not even over the rough stuff!) and yet my cheapie 4yr old Epicon keeps going on my GT....! (and feels a lot smoother too) If it wasnt for the OD and 15mm QR issue I would just sell it and use the money to buy a RS. Let see how long it lasts this time, personally I think the fork should have been swopped out for a new one after the third issue.
  3. Am supposed to get the fork back this week, apparently it was the same problem on the other side? Not a very strong fork by the sounds of it...!
  4. Agreed. Something like a hit and run needs to carry a mandatory prison term until the case is heard when (if) you are caught.
  5. I havent actually opened it as its still under warranty but the last 2 problems have been related to a clip that is coming off so I assume its the same issue 3rd time around! Hopefully the inners will get replaced this time. Its at the bike shop waiting for collection and inspection.
  6. The fork does indeed make a funny noise, if you shake it around you can hear the loose bits inside!
  7. I think it was this little clip that keeps coming off, it then allows the fork to jump up to around 150mm. I have been warned that the the sudden jump in height can tear that little bladder and that bladder is around R2k! I am pretty dubious to the quality of this fork, 3rd time now this has happened! http://service.foxracingshox.com/consumers/Content/Service/QuickTech/32FITFullServiceProc.htm
  8. And again, after it was fixed, the problem has reappeared. Is there anyone else who has had this problem? Its a small circlip that keeps falling off, I wasnt even riding this time, just leaning on the bars talking to someone at the petrol station! I swear I have such bad luck with expensive bikes (and yet my cheap old GT donkey just ambles along!), maybe I should just go rigid single speed after all of this!
  9. I see it looks as though its no longer on the go but the hiking trail seems to still be there. When I worked for Ingwe Mines they used to provide a lot of support (got time off work for it!) but now the mine is no more so sadly it looks like thats the end of that. I was in the town a couple of years ago and its also not looking so good anymore.
  10. Thanks, I have emailed the Vryheid running club to see if they know anyone but if you could PM me a number that would be great. I used to live close to Vryheid in Utrecht and assisted with the Balele horse and hiking trails back in the 90's.
  11. Did you find any trails? I may be heading this way to visit a friend in a few months and wondered if its worth chucking the bike in the car?
  12. Does insurance cover you if you transport a bike this way?
  13. To me (on my GT's Shimano 475 hubs) the trick seems to be having a slight bit of play on the axle which is taken up when the quick release is tightened up. And also having a quick check on a ride after servicing just in case they are working loose or tightening up! And keep some spare BB's, you will never find that one that rolled off the worksurface onto the floor....! Our local auction salvage has a telescopic aerial with a little magnet on the end and this is a great tool for grabbing those loose bearings as you pull out the axle. Should be about R20.
  14. I have read that people who have managed to quit need to accept that we are addicts and always will be and just one casual puff could set us off on the wrong track again. Tomrrow I am visiting smoking friends and its going to be so much fun to sit inside in a smokey room with 4 or 5 other smokers! I will feel no urge to smoke of that I am sure!
  15. R95 from Cajees, unfortunately it appears my derailer is a bit bent...! (struggling to sort out shifting, hanger is new so it can only be the XT derailer).
  16. I was busy reading this thread and now it appears a page is now missing?
  17. Isnt Centurion a city....!?
  18. Did anyone else do this race? How was the route etc?
  19. So my bike breaks the derailer hanger, not content with that its also managed to mangle a couple of spokes and after fitting a new hanger I see its also buggered up the lower cage, broken in half buggered up! Can you buy this piece on its own anywhere or am I now stuffed and have to buy a whole new RD? And for interest sake, the same piece off a 9sp XT unit does not fit, the holes are out by about 2mm.
  20. Try Anatomic if you are counting the pennies, works fine for me. Winter evenings I use a thermal vest and my normal cycling shirt but keep arm warmers and a gillet in my backpack just in case I stay out later than planned. Winters mornings I add a couple of buffs (for the head and neck) and long fingered gloves.
  21. I used to ride with those ultra thick thorn proof tubes from Sportsmans with tyre liners as well. A bit heavy but you will never have a puncture! I stopped using those slimed tubes because they never seem to seal and the sealant can make a royal mess of everything and clog up the valve.
  22. I think the axle needs to come out first.
  23. Whats on the opposite end of the axle?
  24. I have a Lobo, 3lt but when you pack it with crap like tools etc you end up with about 2.5lt. Whats scary is I paid about R700 back then, same pack is now almost twice as much! 4 yrs old and used 4-5 times a week and the material and stitching is still great, I also glued (material glue) a strip of reflective tape down the front of it as well.
  25. I think, and I stand to be corrected, the race was cancelled in Randfontein as they couldnt get access through some properties so it was moved to Magalies. Maybe double check with the race organisers before committing.
