  1. I have a GT and was told its a 'lifetime warranty'......or 5 years!
  2. He does like to mouth off.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fikile_Mbalula Known for his flowing speaking style,[13] Mbalula has several times made headlines with controversial statements. In June 2007 he likened the University of KwaZulu-Natal to Bombay, saying black students were left on the periphery while those of Indian descent swelled the ranks.[14] In December 2007, amid rising tensions in the run-up to the ANC's Polokwane conference, Mbalula wrote a letter to finance minister Trevor Manuel calling him arrogant and an "attention-seeking drama queen". This followed Manuel dismissing Mbalula as a "self-appointed spokesperson of the national democratic revolution".[15] In April 2008 Mbalula said that Barney Pityana, rector of the University of South Africa had "made a clown of himself by his overzealous confusion and comical postulations" after Pityana expressed criticism of Zuma. In January 2014, after Bafana Bafana were eliminated in the first round from the CHAN competition, Mbalula said that the national team were "a bunch of losers".[16][17]
  3. Ja, that climb through Mountain Sanctuary/Utopia, once people start walking here you are also doomed to walk a lot of it!
  4. The climb isnt too bad, the surface is not too bad, for me its all the other climbs after the long uphill over the Magalies mountains! Once you have done the mountain there is still another 30km odd to get through, even more hills this year i believe!
  5. Is the brake caliper tight? There could be a little play in the way the pads hold the disc. What condition were the internals of the hub?
  6. Is the headset fine? And the disc bolts tight?
  7. Last time I had magazines I picked up about 200+ from a hubber in Joburg who was getting rid of them....! These days I just download to the tablet or visit different forums.
  8. We would have gone for a Rottie or 2 had we not met out first two Border Collies who needed an immediate home. Its so sad when its an old dog as you know they stand very little chance of finding a home again. We took an old BC in when he was in need of a home and after speaking to the owner we opted to rather keep him with us and the other 6 idiots we have so he can live out whats left off his life in tennis ball and swimming pool heaven...! Sebastian aka 'Old Farty' is in the top left...
  9. When I removed the crank on my last bike(s) I discovered the wavy washer had broken into 3 pieces (this happened on 2 bikes with 2 new BB's). I emailed the SRAM suppliers to order a new one and a spare one and no-one ever came back to me so I just wound up carrying on without it! I think it just keeps the seal tight up against the face of the BB?
  10. A furry shark sighted in my water reservoir!
  11. My Old Donkey (which hasnt let me down unlike the other more expensive bikes I have had recently!) hiding in a tunnel.....! Some of you will be going through here next weekend if you are doing the Cradle Mountain Trophy....
  12. A few years back there was a glut of yellow bikes in the area that had been given away by MTN (i think), so for a few months it was chaos on the roads as it appeared the new cyclists (schoolkids) had received no education on road safety.....fast forward to today and there are very, very few around now...
  13. I recently had to ditch a Hutchinson Python tyre as it had developed a funny bulge on the side of the tyre (it was a tubeless tyre). When I cut that section open the rubber was very soft and flexible. Am hoping it was a once off problem with that tyre....
  14. I am currently riding my 15kg+ GT (my Fox fork is acting up on the Trance so its been sent away) and boy do I feel a difference after riding a much lighter Trance for the last 6 months! Cant wait to get back on the Trance now!
  15. Thats a shame to hear.
  16. Our Randfontein special enjoying a cool down session after a work out!
  17. Sounds like its time to get Mr Wallet out and buy a new chain, cassette and 3 chainrings, assuming none of those have been replaced since 2007! It would be false economy I think to just buy a new chain or chainring.
  18. Pump should be around R300+ onwards, can probably buy online or at a well stocked bike shop. http://www.cwcycles....yder-shock-pump Not sure of Ryder quality, you also get RockShock ones and Giant ones as well Not sure whats what with a RP2 but with a RP23 there is about 2-3ml of fluid in the aircan so prehaps the bike shop has overfilled the unit hence the excessive discharge but regardless they need to fix it if they took it apart to do the seals.
  19. I have done an aircan service on my RP23 a couple of times and there is generally a 'light' ring of oil for a few rides after servicing and reassembling. I just wipe it off (as you should after/before a ride anyway, both shock and fork). As for the sag, you need to get your own shock pump so you can set these up yourself and keep on eye on your pressure in the unit and your fork.
  20. So it had to happen, a problem has developed on my new bike although thankfully this time its not a broken frame....prehaps just a broken fork! I was going up hill yesterday when my fork made a funny noise as we rolled up and over a rock. Now when you compress the fork and let it bounce back to its normal position there is a sound like metal on metal. Prior to this there have been no issues. Luckily its a 6 month old fork (although its off a new 2011 model bike I assume that it was probably assembled some time back in 2010) and I will be taking it in tomorrow so the bike shop can send it away but I think something has broken inside the FIT cartridge. I found this video last night and the sound is very similar to the one my fork makes.http://vimeo.com/79184502 Hopefully there will be no warranty issues with this as I have pulled off the lowers several times to do the 25-30hr lower service as recommended by Fox. I did pull off the lowers last night but saw nothing broken or any bits laying around. Has anyone else experienced this with a FIT cartridge? Am severly depressed as now I have to ride Ol'Donkey....my 15kg GT hardtail!
  21. 8 months on and the pain is all but gone. Its just a question of time and gentle rehab. That trick of getting some rope, attaching a weight to one end and a round stick on the other end and then 'twisting' the stick handle to wind up the rope and lift the weight seems to be the best one. I also did a lot of massaging and using that ice gel and then heat for a month. I think there is an injury you can get from repeatedly using the mouse, I suppose you just have to adapt and make some changes and hopefully the pain will fade after some time.
  22. i use a Garmin FR70
  23. Heard similar stories with computers having RAM swopped etc when in for repairs.
  24. What about stems that are on your bike when you buy them, like Giant or GT ones? How capable are those stems?
  25. Nothing wrong with them, keep your eye on the bearings and they last forever. I recall reading somewhere that you can in fact knock out the cups on the new 475 hub and press them back into your old hub? http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12876321&p=17846405
