  1. The pictures are different sizes and shapes, and their picture has only one person in it... I dont see the similarity.
  2. not you! I'm talking about the guys that I managed to pass in a race, I mean how many punctures do you need to get to lose 30-60 minutes to the funriders!
  3. fullspeedahead.com
  4. just buy the better frame in the first place... If you get a loan from a bank for say R6000 more to get the better frame you will pay interest of maybe R600 to R1200 in a year.... you will lose a LOT less than trying to sell any type/colour/size bicycle frame Gumpole2006-11-07 01:03:12
  5. Good point, maybe thats a GOOD thing, so guys that should be starting in D or E with me and decide to start in Vets, get dumped, wheelsuck with As a bit and then end with the middle of B in a good time and early finish will be instead facing a loooong tough ride all on there own!!
  6. Interesting idea, but I dont see it working because: The racing teams wont want to participate (exception might be TCS!) as they have nothing to gain by whipping a bunch of open riders (which they will). That means the A level elites will race against the A level open riders and these guys are basicly interchangable (eg Jason) I reckon though if you look at the winning times of the A bunch (fastest of the open) who to some extent timetrial a 100k race VS the elites who dont give a toss about time, the elites are always a fair way quicker. I may be wrong here I have never been at the front (or the rear) of the A bunch!!
  7. Its an expression that I heard when I used to run at RAC.. and its very true. If you run a 10k race at a constant pace and you are feeling good at half way you should be able to finish strongly. Not true in a marathon. Almost all my marathons I have felt perfect at 21.1km but somewhere between 32 and 42 I hit the wall, die, walk or slow down to a crawl. So 50% (maybe more) of the pain and suffering and hard work in a marathon comes in the last 10ks. so 32km is halfway in a marathon!
  8. weekend of 2 weeks before was shattered by a suba diving holiday with too much braai, roomys and rooiwyn . * Today was hard spinning, tomorrow kyalami, wed easy gym, thurs hard spinning and cicuit. Friday is whiskey tasting *, saturday will be a club ride, maybe D group. sun rest. last week I rest as much as possible- mon and wed spinning class. sat easy 30 minute warm up ride with a few minutes of high HR. * The excuses are already in.
  9. 32km is halfway in a marathon!
  10. my bet 3:00 surrounded by a big group of runners, and I hope nobody breaks any world records because they will get ignored by the press!
  11. The tough one is a killer - no thanks
  12. Thanks Bateleur - my memory is mud today!
  13. I find the cannondale crank arms the ugliest on the market, hell any steel manufacturer on the east rand could build something like that in a few minutes. no wonder cruxpearl upgraded to the Time cranks!
  14. does any body have a profile they can post please? More detailed than the rote profile on SS site. i think Jason might have posted one a looong time ago, but cant find it. Thanks
  15. I'm sure that Cruxie has better looking Living room floor tiles
  16. I think its a cyclical thing with the Hub: bash SA woman elites; moan about WT; LA dopes?; Seeding index is never updated; LA is inferior to Merckx; bash SA woman elites etc etc. Repeats every 6 weeks!
  17. It is a very good bike but looks is not one of its best points (Cannondale) easily inferior to Kestrel, Kuota, Cervelo, anything italian, Litespeed.. hell its on the same level as trek (looks wise)
  18. http://www.joburg.org.za/2006/oct/oct23_bicycles.stm Some 60 bicycles have been donated to learners at Ivory Park schools who walk long distances to school each day. Cycle lanes are now planned for the area. October 23, 2006 By Lucky Sindane EVERY morning 12-year-old Nomsa Sibanda walks eight kilometres to school, often arriving too tired to concentrate. But that's all about to change. Sixty children at various schools in Ivory Park - Mikateko Primary School, Umqhele Comprehensive School, Ivory Park Secondary School and Eqinisweni Secondary School - were presented with bicycles on Saturday, 21 October as part of Public Transport Month. The bicycles, 30 donated by the Gauteng department of transport, roads and works and 30 by bus company Putco, were handed over to the children by the City's mayoral committee member for transport, Rehana Moosajee. http://www.joburg-archive.co.za/images_2006/oct/bikes2.jpg Getting to school just got easier for several children in Ivory Park, who were presented with bicycles as part of the Shova Kalula project She also gave the children safety helmets and locks. "I am very happy and I can now look forward to going to school everyday and not worrying about being tired when I get there," Nomsa said. This forms part of Shova Kalula, a project introduced by the national Department of Transport in 2001 to promote the use of bicycles in "lower-traffic areas". The objective is to promote cycling as a cheap mode of transport for low-income households, targeting mainly learners, rural women and farm workers. Mthembeni Ncanana, Gauteng's assistant director for public transport integration and special projects, said, "The focus of this project is on learners, especially those who walk long distances and yet do not receive any subsidy in terms of learner transport, or in areas where there is no public transport, or those who cannot afford public transport. "It is saddening to see young pupils walking long distances from home to school and vice versa." Moosajee said non-motorised transport was the main focus for Public Transport Month. "Bicycles are very important; around the world some lanes are dedicated to cyclists and that's what we need to do as well. "This will not end here. We are coming back with Johannesburg Roads Agency and we are going to create cycling lanes in Ivory Park to make your lives easy," she promised. "We need to share the road space that is available. "Take good care of these bicycles. Don't look at them and see them as something you can sell," Moosajee concluded.
  19. Are you crazy?? They are both guilty and lack of evidence or police incompetence doesn't change the fact. The fact that the biggest doping ring since festina has unfolded and almost all of the 50 cheating riders are scott free is disgusting' date=' while innocent riders are suffering (and will suffer) due to the collapse of many teams and loss of jobs.
  20. Which bicycle shop owners do you think have gone out to buy gold marker pens? I'll send mine in after 94,7.
  21. tempting fate i guess, got one this week, rear wheel of course
  22. Riding with Pros at 48km/h.. that my big dream in life... oops but if they ride at that speed I will be riding on my own . Ok ride with the pros at 28km/h ... cant I just do that on a club ride ?? I would rather put 15k towards a package to see the pros RACE TDF and do the Tour le 'tape myself .... or go on of those training camps in Mpumamalanga and buy myself a lot of bike equipment
  23. yesterday they had a 'open tomorrow sign up'
  24. Not many bikes do their first races that fast.. if mine does its been stolen . BTW on the weight weenie subject, how does one criticize a bike for being too light without checking individual components.. ie If I get a 7.2kg bike it is light and safe.. another bike at 6.5kg has the same seatpost and handlebars and weighs 6.5kg. Does that make the handlebars and post now unsafe???
  25. get well soon, hope to hear from you on the Hub soon .. and the road soon after.
