  1. I once worked this out and (for me) it was about 14 seconds saved (incorporating time lost on downhills) per 100m of ascent. So for the argus that is about 2:30 saved on hills alone.. hardly worth it?? There is also the saving on accelerating the bicycle which might be more depending on how smooth your pedal action is. If you are trying to lose 2kg of bike parts to improve your argus rather get aero/lightweight wheels or train harder
  2. You would also have to keep an identical position on the bike. ie drop into a more aero position, same power ... you speed up and the sensor says you are producing more power. Never mind measuring 'road quality'. I reckon that taking your HR and then guestimating the power used will be no more innacurate. But I'll wait for the experts to give their verdicts.
  3. MAYBE THE CHUNKY THREAD??
  4. Hey Linnega i had a Prokennex boron tennis racket (20% boron, 80% carbon if my memory serves). That was about 23 years ago! Upgraded it (it broke ) to a second hand prince Magbesium pro - what a beautiful feel.... hey isn't that the wonder material in Pinarello Dogmas?? Sorry to hijack the thread, beautiful bike, and I'm not a trek fan
  5. if it is REALLY steep and short (say 3kms at 10%) then you just get your regular lighweight bike and ditch saddle, seatpost, waterbottle cages, bottles, saddlebag, front derailleur (sp), big blade, brake calipers etc etc. I'm sure I could get my bike to just over 6kg .
  6. Hey I think ALL hubbers should consider that they ALREADY have very lekker bicycles and before they spend some more $$$ on bling carbon they should consider new kitchen tiles or a lawnmower , myself included
  7. probably a cyclist who was late for his group ride , was there a Colngo on the back of the car?
  8. During a 3 hour cycle ride at 30k/h I get passed by more than a thousand cars/ taxis/ trucks buses. The ones that pass too close or in general drive like C*nts is one or two. Thats less than 1%. have a look at cyclists and tell me what % drives like c@nts? Motorists see brightly clad cyclists as a nuisance and dont know any better. ALL cyclists drive cars and therefor should now better.
  9. to cyclelab and IanJ. What a pleasure to read this post instead of moans about bad motorists and bad cyclists.

  12. Do you have any stills of the crash? I missed it.
  13. dive more, did you make it to the 94.7 in the end?
  14. Good advice BM, that is what beginner cyclists really need.
  15. good question, maybe get the bike in a stand get the cadence/speed to a certain point and then time how long it takes to come to a standstill. swop wheels and do the same. winner is longest time to spin. This test will workout resistance in the hubs and the aero properties of the spokes, but not the rims which are designed to be aero at high speeds, not stationery!
  16. swop your wheels for american classics to save 150g... then swop them back for the zipps and you will be over the weight worries. lightweight crankset would be my advice if you are gonna spend $$
  17. oh, you have so little faith

  20. does it matter that he is overtaking people on the left. If he hadn't been interrupted by the ageless/sexless person would he have jumped the red??
  21. Yup, as a final point. Last week in Morningside a black jeep cherokee turned in front of a black dude on bis dikwiel. The cyclist swerved onto the pavement and crashed. Not serious got off and dusted himself off. The driver ignored this and just carried on driving. maybe he didn't care, maybe he didn't see him. There was one of those bike racks on the back of his car though!!! So it isn't just 'us' and 'them'!!
  22. Linnega, the average SA motorist is a fat insecure a$$hole, he suffers from delusions of grandeur afforded by the car that he drives around in that he struggles to pay off. He has a microscopic penis with erectile problems. He smells and drinks to much. His friends dont respect him. etc etc. he carries around a gun to defend himself against the world. He is often drunk. He is psychologically battered by crime, poverty, uncertainty and a lack of respect from people around him. AND HE SUFFERS FROM SOMETHING CALLED ROAD RAGE. Flipping him the middle finger is like calling his ugly bitch wife an ugly bitch or defiling his sister. This guy doesn't understand the difference between inflammatory and assertive. I dont know if this guy makes up 1% or 50% of motorists but the problem is that statistically if you do enough commuting/ cycling and you assertive correcting of motorists the odds that one days this pr*ck is going to put a bullet/ doublecab bullbar into you start to look pretty bad.
  23. saturday am, ride to megawatt park, do the club100 ride. groups leave 6:00 - 6:30
