  1. Linnega, I think what you are proposing is a 'crusade' to educate motorists through tough (but fair) action. The problem with this is that you are likely to be killed/ maimed/ dondered with a baseball bat a hell of a lot quicker than if you ignored the offending motorist. So what if 5 motorists in the Durban area are now a bit more considerate of cyclists due to 'meeting you if the 6th guy runs you down in a fit of road rage?? I think that if cyclists really cared about respect safety they would do something else rather than flipping a finger, which is a really easy response.
  2. He, he, I've got this image of you verbally abusing a 120kg bakkie driver who is twice your height, heheh
  3. I dont see the point of having the two different setups, I mean with the 12-25 you have an extra really easy gear which you will never use unless going up steep climbs... and if you need them on steep clims in training why not during racing?? Makes more sense to me to have 2 sets of wheelsets - I deep section with 11-23 for 95% of races, another lightweight for doing the very mountainous rides with 12-25 - Hyperons!! aaargh I need a sponsor
  4. Off to Brits for a meeting yes that was you.
  5. My inside sources tell me that MTN will be sponsoring a set of kit for all current club members - think I'll look nice in yellow - probably not' date=' maybe I should go with blue.[/quote'] That will be lekker, I can keep my yellow helmet . Dr Seuss, where you riding down sandton drive this morning at 6:00 in a big bunch??
  6. Ok we all have 100s of them slowly corroding in a corner somewhere but what medals are you actually missing that you would like to get?- World Champion Road does not count! Tour Le tape Tour Lesotho NY or Boston Marathon RAC Tough one (not willing to do the race but I wished I had in the past!) Some MTBing ones. At least one multiday event.
  7. shoebox. (almost full)
  8. my distance was 97.5 the organisers had 95.4 somewhere and winningtime has last years didtance! the link is the direct one, you just have to hit the 'results' button. If you pm me your WT number I'll PM you the results.
  9. www.cyclechallenge.co.za instead of WT has the results of ALL the 94.7 races that you have done in your life. My group finishing position stays remarkably similar, despite layoffs, crashes and timespan of 7 years - very weird 1999 26th - despite a big crash in the last 10ks 2004 29th - back from a 4 year break 2005 28th - perfect race 2006 29th - rain
  10. ok when did it really get slow. Mine was 14 through the traffic in a corner next to the water tower. Other than that 17/18 on the hill after the lion park.
  11. Given that DC is a long, tough ride you would be advised to rest and keep any riding to a low intensity for the time being. IE = recovery rides as per Dr Marius, Sports Psycholgist
  12. 63 - and it wasn't anywhere near hyde park!
  13. I felt exactly the same coming down Jan Smuts, but thats bicycle racing in the rain. Some people have more skill and ability on steep gradients, until they crash. Argus is better in that the hill is pretty near the beginning of the race so you can hang back and descend in peace. But really I think if the weather is bad and you are worried about crashes you should stay in bed.
  14. oh the spectators, I was amazed at how MANY spectators there were along the route considering the wind and rain.
  15. I am sure the track organisers will be more reasonable with their conditions towards using the track, hopefully both parties will co-operate because that extra 2kms really hurt and cost me a 3 hour
  16. NOT along the highway, maybe Newtown?
  17. so If I need to finish the race in 2:20 and I still have 10 minutes to get to the start.... oh well there goes the 'double' Well I'm sure after killing myself I'll be more inclined to go for a cold beer than another lap
  18. your calculation is correct, it has a name that I can remember.. Bikemax?
  19. I thought Basso went to Discovery?
  20. I watched the kiddie race 2 years ago when I walked with/ then pushed/ the carried my two year old. The second half kilo there were marshalls urging us to hurry up as the next race was about to start. Well the speed that those lighties go at is amazing so all I can say that is whoevers kid is getting pushed by their parent will NOT be fast enough!
  21. just had a call from a friend (picking up my number) who says that the crowds aren't bad at all right now.....
  22. you need a siggy, thats all
  23. Had the same story, how many people do you think an International Convention Centre is designed to hold!!! FFS this isn't a primary school hall or something.
  24. 1.5 hours from desk to return 4km away and no number yet. Q goes around the building. Car parking spaces in the parkades are as easy to come by as a sub 2:15 finish time. Dex deBruyn came around telling people that due to fire safety there was a limited amount of space inside and that people should go home and come back later. On a lighter note there is half of PTA wondering around Sandton City hopelessly lost, some of them have their goodie bags and have no idea how to get back to their cars.
  25. I've got an 11 oclock meeting and will go past afterwards - just to see the new raleigh in the flesh!
