Scott makes the TwinLoc remote which controls each shock individually and the dropper if applies.

I think OP is asking for a single remote lockout that can do the shock and fork independently. in the scenario he posted he asks if he can have the fork locked out and the shock open and vice versa.

for Scott twinloc or any othe dual lockout remote if you want the fork open, the shock will also open and vice versa

@Kai Baird, i dont think something like this exists but its perhaps just have a remote for which ever is hardest to reach for and have a manual lever for the easier one to reach.

Not the answer you wanted but i dont think something like what you asking for has been created.

i think they are most probably referring to the middle aged men precariously riding their longboards they dug out of their 70s stash haha. Or those oddballs doing olympic speed skating up and down there. Even if they ban bicycles I cant think anyone would bat an eye if a little kid is on his balance bike next to his mom pushing a pram.

I think their point of departure was most probably informed by the fact that there are in some cases proper speed differences between people using the promenade, and i'm sure it was based on reported incidents.

I don't want to beleive that some random person sat in office one day and decided "**** cyclist - we'll ban them from the prominade because reasons"

I hope you are right. If this does make the law I hope they word it correctly.

the reality is if they do for some reason enforce it, and the wording doesnt make this distinction, you can get a law enforcer (or some over zealous resident/pedestrian) giving some mum or dad a hard time because his kid is on a balance bike or some roller skates.

  3. For all the issues with USN (price and quality) they actually the only brand (available in SA) that I am aware of that is 3rd party tested.

Been using whey protein for a good couple of years now (even before my cycling days when i was a gym bro) and tried and tested various brands.

Last one I used was Natures Whey (unflavoured) and  felt it was the best.

However I wont recommend it nor any protein powder out their available in SA.

The industry is poorly regulated and many products are untested (this is not just an SA thing which is rather scary). Reading too many reports of what you buy is not what you get.

A link to an old test done by Dischem back in 2015.

    https://www.dischem.co.za/protein-content-of-supplements-as-analysed-compared-to-label-declaration

Right now im off Protein powder and just eating a high protein diet to make sure i hit my numbers. On the odd day I will top up with some USN (Blue lab - stay away from the hardcore black tubs, they have amino spiking in them so dont trust the quality or the numbers on the label).

Anyway just remember its a supplement and most of dietary needs should come from "normal foods sources". Its only meant to top you up if you have a "short coming" in your diet.

  4. "Our recommendation is as follows:

    • Pedestrians should have exclusive use of the Sea Point Promenade from Mouille Point to the Sea Point Pavilion swimming pool; and
    • cyclists on peddle bicycles, skateboarders, and rollerbladers should share the sidewalk (pavement) on the sea-side of Beach Road; and
    • no e-bikes, e-scooters, or motorised devises should be allowed on the sidewalk on the sea-side of Beach Road or on the promenade."

My problem with the above is that they are not just banning cyclist but rollerbladers and Skateboarders as well.

This does unfortunately restrict mums and dads taking their little ones out for a walk either using their little scooters, skateboard, rollerblades etc

Yes, your position(s) improves if the team(s) above you is DQ for the myriad of reasons that exist in professional sport.

that wasnt what i was asking but ok.

just lamenting about do they do a Chris Froome Vuelta win of 2011 type celebration or do they just get their medals "posted" to them

Either way i am drawing attention that its not just about prize money or your name on the records books but the experience thats taken away from these athletes that they will never get back.

so do the Brazil get the their Gold medal now sent in the post box. No standing on top of the podium. What about 4th place then now 3rd place team. No Celebrations

Sucks these teams lost out on the experience

Edit: Read now that the Italians were 2nd. Brazil was also disqualified

    Not mentioned. Highly unlikely.

    Does Platt not own Bulls?

Probably different bike brands like Lill and Strauss.

    #BullSpez

i dont think he owns Bulls but you probably right about him riding a Bulls.

He seems integral to the brand.

Not to derail the topic but why doesnt Bulls sell in SA considering its success and history in the Epic. Even the camera bikes are Bulls bikes. Seems like Bulls is making such an investment in the Race but not bothered with selling their bikes here.

So I qualified for this but I’m starting in 1C. According to the email, you must have crossed the line for the second lap by 9:45 for the latest. I start at 6:45 which means I would need to finish lap 1 around 2:50, which leaves me 10 min to get from the finish back to the start.

It’s literally throwing away 650 bucks. I’m certain the organizers know this as well so I can’t fathom why they would offer it to someone from 1C.

they extended the invite to riders in 1D as well and we start later. Going by seeding the average 1D rider should be slower than the average 1C rider but there will be riders in these batches that are seeded much lower than what they are capable of and could be there by 9:45.

But yes I agree they are taking chances and hoping 1C and 1D riders will bite even if there is no hope of getting there in time

  9. People giving OP lots of flak here.

Strava has an ebike ride option but it does require the rider to actually change the ride type to Ebike ride.

I have one guy I follow that rides an ebike and he always records it as an ebike ride and i give him kudos and enjoy him sharing his experiences

But One of strava big features is comparisons/competitions whether you into it or not and having ebikers filling up top positions among "normal" rides does dilute the value of this feature.

If you not using strava for this feature and only comparing you to you then thats all great and more power to you (I am with you in that) BUT dont criticize someone else who actually wants to use a feature that was intended to compare their results against others.

I have spent a long time reading about how the social media becomes an attention sponge and how it robs you of time and enjoyment. I know its OT but Strava is like the facebook or Instagram of cycling. the hit of a PB is so addictive when we are out riding we even load Strava live segments and start racing people. All the enjoyment is gone. you are either going faster than your PB (big dopamine hit) or slower (bummed) in mid ride now.

I live and work in the big/data/analytics space where AI's know more about you than you do yourself and machine learning will predict things you cant dream of.  I also run Strava live segments - initially it was fun, but now i am turning it all off. I love logging the data and seeing where everyone rode over the weekend plus comparing my segments and seieng what i did and working out who is improving.

BTW IN case you dont know it Strava is amongst the top 50 most invasive apps for data harvesting and sharing, it has a LOT of data about you specifically about your health etc. AI and ML can turn that in to scary predictions.

Sorry long post but you are right. Time to take all the connected features off and just ride. You can log the ride afterwards and keep a record . its always fun.

But in the moment - go ride the bike in the sun, up a steep hill, listen to your heart and breathing and get in touch with yourself and kill the attention monster that has robbed you of the visceral experience of a ride when you clear a line or ace a drop off or hang with a faster bunch for the first time. All of this is actually why you do it.

Strava is a lot nastier and a lot worse than what anyone thinks TBH.

    Rant off.

Comon dude, is the Hub not part of Social Media.....

    @silkman @Koos Likkewaan

I checked my Strava and I have the following:

    De Waal Drive  - 3km 5%
    Edinburgh - 2.2km 9.5%
    Smitswinkel - 4.2km 10%
Chapmans (from Noordhoek Farm Village) 5.0km 10%
    Suikerbos 2.0km 9%

These were recorded using a Polar V800 so are fairly accurate, but the gradient averages may differ somewhat.

are those gradients the steepest sections of the climb because they seem a bit high

99% of peds, administered under proper supervision have almost zero side effects. To suggest criminal sanction is laughable.

genuinely interested in case studies (even if only in observational research) where this is the case.........

  13. Interesting experiment but based on my experience HR data is impacted by so much more external factors that it can in some cases be a completely useless proxy for power or work done or calories burned.

Dont get me wrong, HR is a good metric for how much strain your entire system is taking but I wouldnt depend on it for a power reading.

OP, i dont know how much you investing in this sport but if its anything like most fun riders out there I would propose buying a powermeter for your bikes. Lots of fun riders with expensive bikes but claim powermeters are too expensive of an upgrade.........just saying

As frustrating as MAF is, it does work, but you need to stick to it for at least 6 months. We are so conditioned to red line our ALL our rides and the one thing I did learn with my MAF training is that it is ok to slow down and enjoy the ride and surroundings.

Best is when you are able to climb to the top of Irish in Jonkershoek at a Max HR of 144 and feel super fresh for the downhill.

to what level of Irish and how long did it take you to get to the top???
