  1. I did this in 2006 and 2007. Just dont make the same mistake I did and come back cause you missing family and friends. Make sure you sell everything before you leave. Do not try to make it easy just in case you decide to come back. If you do come back you will realize in time it was the biggest mistake you ever made. You have been warned. I wish you good luck.

  3. Well must be honest in 15 years+ of cycling this is the first time sweating has become some what of problem and NOT because I am older. I am probably the fittest I have ever been. So I'm leaning towards thinking the helmet is the problem because this really only started round about when I got my new helmet but I never did the 1+1 thing. I'm not going to knock any products based on what I have read hear so please dont ask for the brand name. Must say the vaseline thing works everywhere else including my bibs shorts so I guess it might just work on my forehead as well. I'm going to try this on Tuesday avie and see how it works. I will report back. If not I will try a few other suggestions listed above.
  4. I'm really tired of burning eyes while cycling, the sweat just gutters down my forehead. For running I use a cap which I pull down just above my eyes the sweat seems to gather on and run off the end of the peak. I've read many product reviews etc but love to know from my fellow hubbers as to what REALLY WORKS for sweat management and specifically to cycling ?
  5. I bought one of those frames from Kiwi. Been riding it for about a year now. I'm no podium dude but must say I am very happy with mine. It was my very first MTB from scratch build without any help so to speak. I used a combo of sram and XT components. Everything fitted and worked perfectly.

  7. I am on a winter maintenance program at the moment. This should do the trick to make sure I'm not FAT(er) and SLOW come summer
  8. The biggest issue I had in the past was not sticking to the plan. So if the plan for today is to do an hours worth of running at 70% and to include at least 3 hills then make sure you include the hill work because its there for a reason. If it says run for an hour at 45% it means just that and again its there for a reason even if it is not immediately obvious to you. What I have found is that it is sometimes necessary to swop out running and cycling days. Careful how you go about this.
  9. Funny thing my MTB has an old Raleigh saddle on it given to me by a friend for free. I look at the other 3 saddles in my spares box and wonder why I spent so much money on expenses saddles when the most comfie saddle I have did not cost me a cent.
  10. I had a trailer and 2 * Honda XR500's stolen many years ago. Went off to varsity for the week came back on the Friday afternoon looking forward to a good weekend of racing only to find trailer, bikes and all my racing kit MIA. That was the last time I did any motorcycling racing of any sort

  13. Ironman can be a rather lonely experience especially when it comes to training in Jozi. I suggest hooking up with the folks at Jozi multisport http://www.jozimultisport.org/ at Emmerentia otherwise theres a running group that start off at the garage at Boskruin 5am during the week. Theres also the cycling dudes that you can hook up with on republic and braam fischer just after 5am. They start somewhere else but you can wait for them there. Just be ready to fly these guys dont mess about. Weekends hook up with a bunch who are going crazy and do your thing. Best of luck with your ironman training.
  14. The problem with Triathlon is the letters "TRI" the second that is mentioned in any product the price jumps up 3* what it should be. Having said that the other problem is that triathlon in SA is a growing sport but still not where it needs to be. So its up to economics limited demand high prices. Point is no shop can afford to concentrate only on triathlon you got to aim at a much broader market in order to ensure required turnover to pay tax, rent, salaries and hopefully some back pocket money for the owner. The broader market is cycling in general road and MTB. So NO is the answer its all economics.

  18. I am a Nedbank client and that kinda looks like what gets generated when you make a payment BUT I would tell the guy to simply wait. When the funds have cleared then you post. NOT before. Its easy to make up an image like that using paint or other.
  19. I find that pool swimming and open water swimming especially during races are 2 completely different animals. What is good for the one is not necessarily good for the other. I really cant imagine how breathing in the pocket is going to work very well during iron man or any sea swim unless the water is calm. You will be surprised to note just how much those heads popup to see and breathe during a ocean race.even the pros do it. They just do it better than I do.

  22. I saw a dude ride into the back of a taxi recently on Hendrick Potgieter. I really thought the worst was going to happen but fortunately he was not going very fast and did not get hurt but he did admit afterwards he was not looking in front of him. We had a good chuckle afterwards.
  23. Must agree there seems to be a plague of these "massive jerks" on 2 wheels these days. Went cycling on Saturday could not believe my eye's. I thought roadies had bad attitudes but sadly I see this has extended to MTB as well. Tis the "new" SA. Respect ?
  24. Yes dont forget the swimming. I stopped swimming about 6 weeks ago concentrating on running and cycling. Went swimming yesterday EEIISSHHHHH it was no joke. I spent 40 long arduous minutes in the pool. Felt like a first timer .... and so slow !!!!
  25. this is a real bummer I know the feeling well. i am currently trying to get back to fitness level this time last year. i ran a 21k this last weekend 2h23 not cool last year this time I was trying to crack a sub 2 best to listen dude otherwise we gonna be doing a RIP and we dont want that
