  1. Punctures - rock resistance, any burping off the rim, ideal pressure?
  2. Forget those last two comments guys - follow the marketing article above and re-bond your house to buy a carbon everything bike for R110k. Just do it :-)
  3. Add some decent tyres like Hans Dampfs in 2.35 and the weight would climb to well over 11 kg. I'd trash those tyres in no time - I can imagine them burping off, wallowy sidewalls and holes through the tread leading to rapid deflation and dinged rims. If you like your riding more XC than DH then it'sprobably perfect, but if you want a dual purpose bike that can handle the odd dh line, then this won't work too well...
  4. Havent seen the article but perhaps they should have specified it as upgrades to a trail/all mountain bike as opposed to your usual Ride readers bike of choice which is probably a hardtail 29er :-)
  5. Flippit, man I can hardly contain myself. The suspense! Where will those pampered pro's go to hammer more district roads into submission. Far more interested in the Munga route and race.
  6. Check red bull tv for broadcasts - they have the xce on this evening
  7. Ya I get that. What I'd like to know is how much needs to be ingested to give a positive result.
  8. Not on his hands, on the pill counter that dispensed DI's empty caps. It seems that Probenecid is not a capsule but a tablet so the possibility of contamination is there. I would like to know how much of the banned drug needed to "leak" onto the empty caps to give a positive test. It does not look as if this evidence was part of the inquiry, or was it?
  9. I have a friend who does marathon races and smugly claims that one day I will see the light and get a 29er. He spends thousand on carbon rims to make his big wheeler lighter and faster so he can enjoy the same advantage a smaller cheaper wheel used to give him. I don't have that kind of money and a 29er suited to my kind of riding will cost more than double what I paid for my bike. I am clearly not the bike industries ideal customer.
  10. My dik sixer wheels with dik dh type tyres on them weigh a bomb. I am just glad that I am not on a 29er looking for the same kind of tyre/rim strength because those suckers would really be like proverbial wagon wheels...
  11. There is no such thing as free riding. You have to pay everywhere these days...
  12. A 100mm Giant post may work - they make two sizes as well. Under R2k.
  13. Did Mr Kelsey injure himself in practice? I see Rika says that she had an off in an especially muddy corner otherwise a good run and faster than quali.
  14. Mmm, 60mm fork travel - I'd be tempted to leave it off altogether and run a fat front tyre. Would look better too. And weigh 8kg instead of 8.5 :-) Shredtastic.
  15. Our Master's world champs or at least the Cape ones are there and busy getting to know the course. Would be good to get some updates on The Hub. Nigel???
  16. You come form Joburgland - its HT and niner country for sure. if you were in CT or KZN you wouldn't even be asking...
  17. Thanks for the info, vids and reports guys - sounds like a total blast. Good to know a 150mm AM bike would be good enough for some fun. I already have big brakes - would like a longer fork - maybe a 160mm were I to go try this shite...
  18. Thats not all - 10 days ago I came down Vasbyt onto the jeep track. I was shaping up to ride the steep gully to the gap step up jump beside the entrance to My Roots. A dad had three little boys riding the very line I was intending to use. Basically unsupervised and clueless as he was 30m away on the other side. i had to brake suddenly and almost came off. I let them go and waited around for a few minutes while he collected one who fell down the ramp and he shepherded them away apologising. I hit the jump quite fast and landed to find one of his kid pushing his bike on the line into roots. 200mm rotor for the win. No harm done but could have been close. I did vent a bit at the dad. Beware - there are so many people who don't care and are clueless about mountain biking beyond their own limited experience - as if we didn't know :-).
  19. Was doing some skills training with my wife on Vasbyt on Saturday morning. Three or four trail runners came past us in a group with MTBs ahead and behind them. I politely asked them if they knew that trail running was not allowed on this trail. No the leader said, he did not. I referred him to trail and tar. He and his mates carried on running down the trail. Was I just too polite? :-)
  20. Awesome - democracy works on the Hub if nowhere else in SA...
  21. Redbull TV ftw I saw some moans about this course on PB ( feel a bit better Nigel?) but to my mind it looks like a course for the brave. Hart the Hobbit gapped the biggest drop in practice and there is some crazy speed in places. To do well you need to be fast everywhere because its short and sharp... http://www.vitalmtb.com/videos/features/RAW-Windham-Thursday-Practice,26634/Steel-City-Media,14510
