  1. I though weetbix was good, but after eating it was hungry again and hour later. Speaking to a dietician, she said that weetbix is one of the quickest things to digest and that I should rather have things like oats etc. An interesting thing with the oats though, you must not have the instant ones. Buy the ones you have to cook, but instead of cooking them, put boiling water in and leave for 20 minutes. This will make it slower to digest and will keep your energy levels more constant. Future life is delicious and is no more expensive than buying pronutro etc. Plus, its great for those that are lactose intolerant as it tastes good with just water.
  2. I have the same question. I use Cytomax for during the race and normally don't worry about recovery (I'm just a weekend warrior, have a whole week to recover). But, I will be doing my first stage race in May so should probably think about a recovery drink. I am lactose intolerent so choc milkshakes etc won't go down well.
  3. I was able to ride a medium stumpy, but can't ride a medium Epic, have to ride a small. My OH could manage a large stumpy, but rode a medium Epic. You will feel more spread out on an Epic compared to a stumpy.
  4. Meerendal is also a nice place to take the kids. They get the fun of riding single track, but its not technical. The other place to try in a week or 2 is taking him to Ntida, they are building a dual slalom track where kids and adults can play. When the adults get tired, they can sit at the restaurant and have something to drink while the youngsters with all their energy carry on. I like what Tygerberg mtb is doing with the kids. They have a "training" session on a Wednesday I think where the kids all come along and get to learn technical skills etc and have fun with a bunch of other kids. They then go to the little mtb races (5-15kms depending on kids age). My son is almost 3 and if I take him to any singletrack etc, I can't get him off his motorbike afterwards. He will stop, have a rest and then carry on.
  5. Looks wise, the silverback is much better !!! I saw 3 of the Giants on the weekend and just don't like a bike pimped out in blue. I first thought the owner had done it himself (I won't say what I tought of him at that point), but then after seeing 2 more, I realised that is how they are.
  6. Just ignore the comments. If you think your price is fair then stick to it. I sold a bike where i had people go on about the price, the lack of guarentee as it was 2nd hand, make ridiculous offers etc and it didn't kill the sale at all. People do take chances to get something cheaper. In my case the bike was a good price and it sold for what I was asking.
  7. Or on the new Bottelary Hills trails??? Plenty of entry points.
  8. See we just need to hunt down people like BPayne, cause them a minor injury, just enough so they can't ride and lose their spot and then when we take enough people out, the rest of us might have a shot. Seriously though, I really think they should keep a few spots open for people on the waiting list so that at least some new people get to do it each year.
  9. We are also staying at a place down the road from Hoew Hoek. Hoew Hoek was just a little over budget especially if you have someone staying in a room on their own.
  10. The distances might be short, but they are packed with single track and lots of hills :-) Where is everyone staying? Edit: I meant Shorter, not short as this isn't short for me.
  11. I've also had excellent service. Ordered on a Thursday afternoon, then an hour later I got a call to say that unfortunately I won't receive it the next day (i'm in Cpt). I was shocked with the phone call as I had only expected it to arrive on the monday anyway as I had ordered after 3pm. Really nice that they went the extra mile to make sure a customer wasn't dissappointed.
  12. Sounds like a great idea. Then we can catch the bastards that steal are beloved bikes.
  13. Don't worry about training, there are people like me doing it so you won't be last! Also have a young sprog so only get to ride once a weekend if i'm lucky. My poor body doesn't know what it feels like to ride 2 days in a row anymore. What group is everyone riding in??? I'll be in the slow group and wearing my Tygerberg mtb shirt the first day. Would be nice to meet everyone.
  14. You won't regret doing this one. My personally, I love races with lots of technical, but still thoroughly enjoyed K2C as its in a beautiful area with stunning views, awesome decents (gravel roads) of which one is 14km's, great water points and then when you finish it, you can have Bosun's draught and pancakes :-)
  15. I would hope the race organisers wouldn't give out my personal details.
  16. 4hours 20 min a good argus time? When you are doing the Ironman in 3 weeks? Hope cycling is her weeker discipline. That said, hope she has a speedy recovery.
  17. Supersport don't give two hoots about cycling. If you click on the OK button on the sports channel, there is NEVER any news on cycling (except the odd coping case) and there are never any results under the Cycling, just some event calendars. For something like the Epic and Tour de france, why can't they have the information under cycling i.e stage results, overall results etc???
  18. Your time also doesn't get taken from the group you were starting in, but rather when you went over the timing mat so even if people did start a group earlier, their time would still be the same. If they are then able to ride with that group, maybe their seeding wasn't perfect anyway.
  19. TitusTi, I'm a bit worried about the people you know, lol.
  20. Him and his purple caped sidekick past us quite a few times and we passed him. He cut my dad off, almost hitting his front wheel, think the look on my dad's face would have been priceless as this was his first sight of the guy. Hectic to do the Argus on a bmx. He was standing up all the way on the climbs. TitusTI, since he is a mate, please tell us why he did this??? Saw another guy who had a g-sting over his shorts with blown up condoms and fairy wings, was funny.
  21. I saw way too many people with full suspension bikes and slicks, especially Giant Anthems. Sad.... I would never put slicks on my baby. That said, I had fun racing the mtb's downhill. We had a few of us racing down the road to Ocean view and one poor guy on a mtb was trying his hardest to keep up, didn't know someone could pedal at such a high cadence, lol. There were 3 guys riding close to us on BMX's! Respect to those guys, although the ones clothing, or lack of, was a bit questionable on a "family" ride. The girls were giggling, the guys didn't look too happy :-)
  22. Did you just want to brag that you are good enough to ride in the top 5? lol. Definitely Stealth mode.
  23. If they had advertised that a bit better I would have bought another pair of pants. No way was I going to pay more than I can get it online (from a SA shop). Plus, the service wasn't great, I stood around waiting for help and got none and they were not busy.
  24. Ok, and for those of us who don't buy bicycling? Please let us know.
  25. Also try stretching, find it works wonders if the muscles is just tight.
