  1. That is awesome! Wish I could have been there to watch.
  2. Damn, I gave the sports pass to my OH for the 21st. Said he could have the public holiday because I wanted the start of the Epic. Might bring my son through just to watch.
  3. Don't run, running is the devil. Well it was for me. I tried to do some cross training ealier this year and all I achieved was an ITB injury. Set back my training as I had to take it easy for 3 weeks. I also need to do emergency training for Sani. While I believe i wouldn't have a problem finishing each day, I think I might just struggle to finish before the cut-off on day 2 (which would kill me). I have loads of endurance, but NO speed.
  4. I'm sure the guys try the different bike sizes in practice and go with the one they are quickest on. I think its great they have choice. All the top guys are sponsored and therefore money isn't an issue so they can ride the bike they want as long as its the brand that sponsors them. I reckon majority of the top riders will be on 29ers for the Epic.
  5. I was interested until you mentioned Chile. All my wines at home are from the wine farms that have trails i.e Welvanpas (very nice red and white at cheap prices), Oakvalley etc.
  6. But it wasn't a 29er !!! Top 29er in the mens race was Specialized :-)
  7. I'll be going to Sportsmans then :-)
  8. Just tell her there are lots of hot foreign men there for her to see (do not mention the ladies at all).
  9. I get the same, but its normally due to not drinking enough (the headache afterwards at least). If I drink plenty before and during them I'm fine afterwards.
  10. And they pleaded for people not to do it on the road to Smits. I saw a baboon with an energy sachet and another one with an empty energy bar packet. Stupid idiots throwing there stuff. The poor guys were having a really hard time keeping the baboons off the road.
  11. I used to like the road race, nice vibe and ride, but the problem for me was all the mtbers with huge smiles on their faces after riding Harkervilel etc instead of doing the road race.
  12. If you like making a statement, then go with a colour. The black and white is nice, but everyone has black and white. Looking at the pics posted, Green is by FAR the best. I think Orange would also look nice if that was an option (organge and blue works well together on the ktm motorbikes). Me personally, I'd love the red on my bike. It would work so well. Already got the bling red cassette and a few other bits. Was looking to get red grips, but the handlebar would be taking it a step further.
  13. I can't choose, too difficult. Grabouw Knysna Somerset West Ceres (Eselfontein). All got top trails with lots of Singletrack. Looking forward to seeing new trails in May when I do that little 3 day stage race.
  14. Disclaimer: I've got no financial interest in skills clinic. I personally feel they are fantastic for people of all levels. I thought I was fairly competent on singletrack, but then did an intermediate course and found out quite a few things I wasn't doing right. I was immediately riding faster through corners after listening to the advice. As a women, most of us aren't trained from young by our dads on how to fix things and there is nothing worse than feeling useless when something basic goes wrong and not being able to sort it out so I feel the courses that teach basic maintenance are excellent value for money. Also from a safety aspect. You never want to be stuck on the trails unable to fix something. My 2 cents worth.
  15. I'm hoping the answer is yes, I've been wanting an excuse for a new helmet for a while now. Already know the one I want.
  16. If its not about the money, why is she sueing for money rather than trying to get him locked up. I had a friend when I was a teenager who was in a very similar situation, also with an older man (he was 30 at the time, she was 14). But, it was her choice! Funnily enough it also started innocently with them cycling together and progressed from there. She is a now 30 and perfectly happily married (to a guy her age) with a child of her own. You can't blame your past for messing up the rest of your life. I doubt a physcoligist would recommend sueing the person to make you feel better.
  17. Why would you want the bus between green point and cape town at that time? Its a nice warm up cycle. That said, don't know what time they started from Tableview. Even if it was only 6am, anyone starting at 7 or later should really think about using the bus next year. We left Tableview at 7:20 and were in town by 7:50.
  18. If you bothered to read all the information in your race pack, you would have been that My CITI were giving free rides between town and Green Point for cyclists and spectators. My CITI was AWESOME !!!! We hopped on a Tableview, took a detour through Paarden Eiland onto the R27 and they dropped us at Thibault square. The cyclists way outnumbered the normall passengers. Vibe was great with everyone chatting etc. We got there quickly and had time to stop at the coffee shop which was about 20 metres from the station. Best start to an Argus ever. After the race, we hopped back on at Greenpoint and enjoyed the free ride to the Civic centre. There we swopped busses and off we went back to Tableview. I was super impressed and will never go by car again to the Argus.

    Argus crashes

Two bad crashes going down towards Scarborough a few hundred metres from each other. Why can't people just ride sensibly down there, every year i see someone taken away in an Ambulanace. There was a guy taken away in an ambulance at both, hope they are ok. We were stopped and had to walk past the first crash scene, think it was quite hectic (mostly cleared by the time I got there).
  20. I got sick of eating sloppy stuff so I've switched to future life crunch, its so much better !!! Personal preference I guess. I prefer to chew my cereal sometimes.

    tricycle tour

Best thing we bought. They aren't cheap, but worth every cent. He has had it for over 2 years and still loves it. Still working perfectly and it gets crashed a lot (on purpose).
  22. My dad cracked his hip about 2 years back on the Lourensford mtb. Took him two weeks of being stubborn and not even able to walk before he saw the doc. They operated and he was back on the indoor training within 6 weeks and hasn't had a problem since. He can feel the pin, but it doesn't hurt him at all.

    tricycle tour

I gave my son the choice to ride his KTM (balance bike) or his bicycle with training wheels. He is more comfortable on the ktm and wants to ride that so I'm not going to push it.

    SANI2C

I know the feeling. Stepped up the training by doing some cross-training and indoor trainer on my road bike and my ITB has kindly flared up so I've had to back off completely. Think it could be related to my road bike setup or maybe overdid the other exercises and made my hamstrings tight, who knows. Sticking to my mtb from now on as I know I can ride it for up to 7 hours with no hassles. Really starting to feel the stress about lack of training now that its getting closer. I just want to be able to finish each stage, don't care about time.
  25. I finally got an answer: For some riders, if we see that they have results for other non-seeding events that we can see qualify them for an earlier start than their seeding events do, we give them the benefit of the doubt and seed them accordingly. What a load of BULL !!! The only road race my dad did that I haven't done since the 2010 Argus is the Cape Cobra on the 21st Jan 2012 where he did a slow time. We have done 1 or 2 different mtb races, but they were over short distances so don't see how those can affect our times. So frustrating. I've asked them now to explain what other criteria they use as in our case it can't be th results that is causing a difference of 50 minutes.
