  2. Got this email 13 July 2011 after requesting info. "Hi Leon, Sad to say that the school did not see their way open to do this race this year. Hopefully the Goldfields Cycling Club will host it next year. Sorry Elmarie "
  3. asked . . .
  4. Im a average Mtb-er . . .(more a roady) and if you can do off rd 75km in 3,5 - 4hr when training it will be possible to do 3 hr in racing mode as I said there are some fast secondary roads which will up your average speed.
  5. Plett to Storms Village is = 61 km to be exact The toll is heavy at R35 a shot
  6. Stage 1 and stage 2 both will start and finish through the storms river pass.( Go through pass and come back to finish - Makes for a nice 4,5 km up at the end of stage 1 and 2 ) My In-laws stay in Storms river Village and when I visit I ride through the pass alot. I stayed there through the Knysna oyster fest and Big 5 challenge and rode this route a few times.(Stage 1 and 2) After all the rain the gravel road down the pass is non-existent and a part of the road has fallen away. Very rocky (loose rocks) and muddy at places and has 2 crossings and will be a good test. The roads through te Plantations are not to bad and best , the secondary roads will be flat and fast. I spoke with some locals and the Doctor on duty on Race days and all stated that they will work on the route (Road down the pass) to make it user frieldly possible. I will unfortunately miss this race. Good luck to everyone doing the race and remember to pack your climbing legs! Have fun !
  7. I drove through from the West Rand. Left early as this was my first Road Duathlon and wanted to make sure I get my nice moisture management top and a good parking spot. So , got there before sunrise , bumped my car (at the entrance to the parking area F@#%#&) -turn to short . . . eish - Got the good parking Got my moisture management top Got my race chip ready to go . . . The race: Whistle went - didn't want to start to fast as I have done that many a time with mtb duathlons in the past and struggled to the end. Got a nice pace going . T1 went smooth and got onto the bike and were already 4 or 5 guys in a bunch. Through the first dip over the bridge I lost my water bottle and decided to stop and get it as I do not want to do the 40km without it. The cycle route was fun and got a nice group of 6 going. Got some vehicle traffic on our last turn around on 1 of the downhills and we were cautious at most. I almost bought a patch of kameelfontein between a back marker tannie on a mtb on the left and a BEE white Bmw on the right. Made myself thin and got through that small gap. T2 , no problems and did a decent run to the finish. Did a 1h59 and a few seconds. Happy as my goal beforehand was 2h00 On my way home , got a flat tire . . . Anyway , I enjoyed every moment of the Dueathlon and will definitely do events like this again. Thanks to Albie de Lange and his team to put this event together !

Dfresh welcome to The Hub and also cycling world. Im sure you will enjoy every moment regardless if its road or mtb. Road vs Mtb can cause a huge debate. I enjoy both thus will not comment on which to choose , you will quickly find what works for you. Remember to add your extras clothing , shoes , helmet etc to your budget. Most important enjoy and be safe !
  12. I think its this one ? ? ?
  13. yip , you need to be on your guard Funny how my car needed new brake pads at each service after my motor plan expired and not even once in motor plan? And my other vehicle will be out of motor plan on 19 May. I took the vehicle for the last service in motor plan 2 weeks ago. I dealer stated that the vehicle is in perfect working order. Took it to AA for a all mechanical check up. AA found and reported that the brake pads are Done/Klaar/kopoet/Finished and the disks needed skimming. Took vehicle back to dealer with report . . . service manager said that they forgot to check this in their service. Needless to say , had discussions with regional managers and even went up to national level. . . got extra 6 months on my motor plan = 1 more service and they refunded my payment at AA for the mechanical check ar R550. Its worth while to take your vehicle to AA !
  14. okay R3700 saved . . . What cycling related item will you buy ?
  15. Majority LBS will throw in bike fitment with a new bike buy. But as TNT1 say . . . An expert will do the job . . .
