I suspect if Nino didnt have that front wheel puncture that the finish would have been a tightly contested affair.... but the same can be said for Flueckiger and Koretzy i guess? Most enjoyable to watch. What a pity the season ends now !!

Not so sure about that, the Blevins attack was brutal.  Only Nino when he was still at his very best would have kept up with that ....

Nino still not able to get closer to that record. ????

What a race though and good to see Nino more consistently up close to the front again.  That last attack was brutal, best I seen in a very long time.

I'm not a huge fan of the Americans, but that was impressive, sending a clear message to the other top contenders.

Hopefully you not planning on doing any races soon.........................because that is when its most likely to fail !

True !!!  Still recovering from some broken ribs, so no racing anytime soon.  I have a brand new chain that will go on as and when I get to racing again.

Eina, I thought as much.  That was a very bad high speed crash.

Asking for a "friend" .... and he wants to know if we will ever get comments back on the Classifieds please

Dear Matt, you always answer the questions so nicely and concise, but this particular one is just flatly ignored ...

I cant count how many PM's I sent to hopeful sellers to help them clarify/improve and add vital tech information on the stuff they trying to sell.

Can you once and for all give us a clear answer on what your view on this is and why its so important not to have comments?  It would mike it so much simpler and easier than to keep sending PM's to idiots and hope they update/fix their adds.

By all means if someone overstep the boundaries (I'm sure there will be some of those) with non constructive and/or rude comments, punish them any way you see fit.

Theo, it's obviously your call. As long as you're sure that pin won't move (dislocate). If it does, you really don't want to be up on the pedals when it happens. Me personally, I'd rather toss the chain. The few hundred Rand IMHO isn't worth any kind of risk. But your engineering skills are likely better than mine too.

Not sure this type of defect will be visible with inspection by the naked eye. Suspect there was a materials defect and that roller cracked and dropped out. Unusual though and probably quite a rare thing to happen.

I had this well and truly in mind, had to many unfortunate incidents lately, definitely don't want another.  That being said, the pin went in very tightly, I cant see it coming out (touch wood).  During the first ride, I will gradually increase force/power on it, until I trust it 100%.

Normally my pedaling style is smooth and I'm not into any crazy stuff.  After I hit 50 quickly realized the body simply cant do what it used to, so just take it somewhat easier .... :).

CGSO complaint costs nothing. Hard to see in a case like this how you won't come right.

If I didn't have a workable solution I for sure would have done this.  I'm pretty sure its "fixed" and would last just as long as any other same chain.

I also have a brand new (still in package) one to replace this one if my repair turned out to be a k@k idea.

Any time in future I replace a chain, will for sure check the chain link by link before install.

Hi all and thank you in advance.

I inadvertantly bought a boost carbon fork and the hub floats left to right on the axle .

Are there spacers that one can buy to take up the float?

    Regards

You get a kit with 2 x 5mm spacers and a brake rotor spacer (rotor also need to be offset by 5mm).  Hopefully you have 6 bolt rotors, for direct mount you screwed and the only option is to make up a bracket to space the brake caliper.

I will check if I can find the link again.

    Edit:  https://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/473745334/Fouriers_Boost_Hub_Adapter_Rear_Wheel_Hub.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnJaKBhDgARIsAHmvz6caGML1SQqInX_wimFv9JrqXeI-vY1k2LQh65VekAHye8_uc8iCvE8aApJxEALw_wcB

I don't find any local sites though.  Maybe someone else on here know where to get locally.  The other alternatives is to buy a boost hub and do a wheel rebuild or just to buy a boost wheel.

The pins on the chain are not designed for to be reused !

Its designed to support the roller and also via a press-fit into the side plates hold the link together.  As long as a decent press-fit is maintained to prevent the pin from coming out either end of the side-plates, it will work just fine to re-use a pin.  If the pin was pushed out completely, it becomes difficult to get it pressed in properly again, in that case only I will agree with you.

Rather combine what you are told by others with some common sense also.

Just add a roller, I will be able to assist you with that.

100%, that's exactly what I did, partially pushed out the hollow pin, replaced the roller with one lying around and pressed the pin back in.  Still nice and tight, so bob is is your uncle ... :) .

If you don’t come right you can let me know. I have short piece of XTR 12spd chain i can donate if you want to patch it in with a quick link.

Thanks for the offer, will definitely take you up on it if my chain is going to be too short.

The internet is full of people giving (and following) terrible advice, so I'd rather try to be a local source of slightly better.

(Also when someone tries it themselves and runs out of talent they know where to find me)

Please consider moving to Gauteng so that I can make use of your expert services ????

I would think this could cause damage would rather be safe than sorry. Not sure about your current chain length but is it not possible to do drop the link and add a quick link in there to be safe.

Yes thanks, I think I can get away with the chain a bit shorter.  That would be my first course of action.

Its definitely not supposed to do that if it has less than 500kms on it, maybe its a factory fault?

That's probably the only logical explanation, I cant see how a single roller can come of even if it was cracked.

  15. Anyone else had this before?  A single roller missing on my 12sp Shimano XTR chain with less than 500km on it ...

Discovered this unwelcome surprise while busy washing my bike today ...

And no its not the quick-link .... :).  Not sure if I should replace the chain or not, don't think it can do serious damage?
