  1. Idle hands and all that. I've made a belt with some webbing and the elastic from an ExtremeLights headband using oumas Elna. The stitching looks a dog's breakfast, but it'll hold. If it works like I hope I'll probably clip my petzl or something more powerful in there, but I've found the led lenser to be sufficient as long as those around you are not using supernova strength lights.
  2. Thanks. I had a long chat about lights with one of the more experienced guys in our trail jogging group because I need to get a better, more reliable (ie not Led Lenser) light. His take away with headlamps was that chasing lumens is pointless after a certain point as all the contrast gets washed away with too much light too high up. And I've found the same with night riding, smaller light on the helmet coupled with stronger light on the bar. I think before I buy another headlamp, I'm going to jury rig what I have to see if I can do something with one of my running belts.
  3. Reply with "I have two kids, a mortgage and pay my own medical aid. I have even less money."
  4. 2oceans is in what, two weeks? Best to stick to what you know. But let's be honest, it's only 21kms. Don't over think it. There will be someone in the start chute with you with borrowed shoes.
  5. Cadence Nutrition.
  6. It was easy after I realized that I'm no Jonathan Katz-Moses, and I'm mostly building outdoor furniture out of Pallet wood. That will definitely save you time, and you know how much your time is worth when consulting, so as soon as you add that up, the Auto-Jig becomes a bargain. True Story.
  7. Now that the one word reply is out of the way: The Thule pack can't hold a candle to USWE when it comes to inhibiting movement. It's a fancy day pack for hikes. Back to topic, I think the issue is the Ciovita shirt. The material was never designed to have to withstand localized chafing like that. Durable vs Breathable. Take your pick.
  8. Hi, I'm Philip, and I'm an unashamed Pocket Hole Philistine.
  9. You know that overweight guy on the side of a rugby field screaming at the pros that you are under the impression that you came to watch a rugby match and not a soccer match? Don't be that guy. There is no other way of getting across those mountains other than going around the dam and up Franschoek pass. But don't stress, they'll be dropping into the Berg River and Banhoek trails as well.
  10. Edit: Scratch that, was looking at yesterday's splits instead of today.
  11. I had a friend who told me I'm silly to wash my bike myself rather than handing it in at the bike wash. He also thought that his scraped up stanchions on his rear shock was a warranty issue, and he now believes that a neoprene shock sleeve is the right thing to prevent it from happening to him again. We are not friends anymore.
  12. If in a budget: Shimano Deore 12spd. Of on a slightly less constrained budget: Shimano Deore 12spd With an XT shifter and a lighter cassette. If budget is another man's worry, then I'd get SRAM GX Eagle AXS on a shimano XT cassette and chain. Or XX1 Cassette and chain. Shimano is smoother, xx1 lasts longer. Shimano Deore is lighter on the wallet, and shifts very well. A mate of mine remarked the other day that he never hears me shift and never hears my drivetrain. I haven't had to fiddle with it in the year that I've had it. It's a smorgasbord of Deore,SLX and XT. Now that deore 12spd is available, there is no reason to buy SRAM SX or NX.
  13. Aaai. When the red helicopter flew over my house on Sunday heading to Lourensford I told my father that it had to be an epic rider. Sadly I was right. Conditions were rough on Sunday.
  14. YSTER!!
  15. Niño has a few epics under his belt, including wins. He knows the risks, and the costs involved on both sides off the trade-off.
  16. I'm pretty sure the cut-off has been moved out in nearly every edition of epic? Agreed. But the euros in the mid pack has even less skills than Jannie Corporate.
  17. None at wp1 today.
  18. Rhabdo is not your friend. Hope it's not the case and that you can ride tomorrow.
  19. If you are ever in doubt about whether you are a deuchebag, don't be.
  20. Whatever you choose, for it first.if it doesn't fit well, you are wasting your time. I just ordered this one today. https://www.scott-sports.com/za/en/product/scott-argo-plus-ce-helmet Otherwise take a look at the Leatt DBX 2.0 or whatever they call the latest version.
  21. Ek het al 'n BB tool in die bank skroef vas gedraai, die raam ingesit en BB los gedraai. Aluminium rame buig meer as wat mens dink.
  22. The old school shoes used to be perfectly fine for comrades athletes back in the days. They’ll be fine for your commute walkies as well. Not much difference between casual shoes now and running shoes then. Don't over think it. If they are comfy, rock them. I used to work as a footwear planner in a mainstream retail store. We could get any shoes we wanted at absurd prices. Yet my favorite pair of shoes was the Onitsuka Tigers that I used to buy from the Jordan Factory shops. I'd walk the sole through and then go buy a new pair as my office shoes. I'm still a bit of a tekkie nut, the only difference is that I always buy from factory shops or markdown tables now
  23. If budget is tight go look at Decathlon's range. Great products at low price points. The thing is, a rain jacket lasts very long, so you'll be getting value out of it for a long time. I still use one that I bought in 2009.
