  1. The old school shoes used to be perfectly fine for comrades athletes back in the days. They’ll be fine for your commute walkies as well. Not much difference between casual shoes now and running shoes then. Don't over think it. If they are comfy, rock them. I used to work as a footwear planner in a mainstream retail store. We could get any shoes we wanted at absurd prices. Yet my favorite pair of shoes was the Onitsuka Tigers that I used to buy from the Jordan Factory shops. I'd walk the sole through and then go buy a new pair as my office shoes. I'm still a bit of a tekkie nut, the only difference is that I always buy from factory shops or markdown tables now
  2. If budget is tight go look at Decathlon's range. Great products at low price points. The thing is, a rain jacket lasts very long, so you'll be getting value out of it for a long time. I still use one that I bought in 2009.
  3. Take those thin plastic bags that fresh bread and milk is packed in, put on a sock, put on a plastic, put on a shoe. Your feet will smell afterward, as they are not breathing, but they will be dry.
  4. Well with being in bed and researching return to sport protocols after a gnarly couple of days wrestling with rona, I regret not getting my booster shot. Doc reckons I got one of the Deltas floating around, so much for my "meh, omnicrom is light music" attitude I had. I would gladly eat the humble pie, but the screws and crushed gravel in my throat makes it a bit hard to swallow right now. I'm just glad I got it after the one event I aimed for last year. Will find something to aim for and work up to it. Probably late in the year to give myself enough time to build up slowly.
  5. I grew up in Somerset West and cycled to school alone since grade 2. Now my kids are going to the same school, and I can't see myself letting them ride to school. It's like the wild west out there between cellphones, flat whites and just plain not giving any F's. My dad says the mommies back then we're just as bad
  6. Buyer beware. This reminds me of the RS Recon fork I bought years ago, met the guy in a Spar parking lot, paid R800 cash and went on my merry way. But then I serviced it when I got home. Probably the first time ever that it was serviced, as the stanchions was pretty worn. I put it down to school fees, removed the travel spacer to extend it to 120mm, and rode them on my SS for a couple of years. Find cones from a lbs and move on. Shake the dust off your feet and close the door behind you.
  7. Yours sound like a quality control issue. Take it to the shop you bought it from and ask them to warrantee it. The shop needs to bat for you when it comes to warranty time. I'm pretty happy with their quality. I have two Leatt helmets (well one, broke one this weekend,) two pairs of knee pads, a set of elbow pads and many gloves, and I've not had an issue like yours yet. Even the gloves have lasted more than two years. The first pair of knee pads must be about 6 years old now. My convertible helmet is about 4 years old. Still on the first pair of pads. Off topic: I do believe that the longevity of my gear is because all of it gets rinsed totally after every ride. I put it in the shower and soak it, by the time the water is warm all the sweat is washed out. Hang up to dry indoors. Sweat makes helmet pads grotty
  8. This recommendation is based solely on the coffee offered, and not on the breakfast or seating options. I haven't checked out The Daily Coffee Cafe yet, but the best coffee I've had in Malmesbury until now was at Koffie. A small shop in Voortrekker street close to De Jagers.
  9. No it doesn't answer his question at all. Tygerberg and the Gansbaai trails are worlds apart ito soil. The Gansbaai trails are very sandy. It's not called the Sandveld for nothing. And Patrick is also a better bike handler than the guy with limited skills who is riding an ebike. His example isn't applicable to Goosebay's question. But I don't see an easy answer for the Gansbaai trails. Ebikes aren't going away, so trail construction methods might need to adapt to help trails stay lekker for longer.
  10. Will the Valley Electric team be riding epic? Edit: Yes they will indeed. https://diverge.info/2022/02/18/valley-electrical-titan-racing-team-announces-2022-rider-roster/
  11. If he didn't have to fight the cancer battle as well, I would have called BS, but for some reason I have some grace for him. No one needs all that at once in their lives. But TBH, have no hope for anyone relying on SA's supplement industry too. I remember a story from the RECM Team days that they used sponsored supplements that was made seperately from that brand's (I can't remember who the sponsor was) other supps to prevent cross contamination.
  12. I see Jared Graves has retired, and will work as performance coach for the Yeti team. I have mixed feelings about this guy. Great career, sullied by a doping scandal just before he stepped away to fight cancer, making the doping furore the least of his worries. Lest we forget that he also became the fall guy, allowing Richie Rude to get off lightly with a slap of the wrists. It's like a roller coaster of highs and lows.
  13. Naah, I'd much rather have Andrew Neethling commentating.
  14. Might i suggest Flandria or Mason's Bike Inn for a second opinion?
  15. It might be tubeless. If the air escapes only when you push the valve, have you tried tightening the lock nut that secures the valve to the rim? If it is tubeless, and the valve is a little bit loose, then it will bleed air around the valve.
  16. But no one is pretending that it doesn't exist or is under control? The only one using "thereby" is you.
  17. If you are ever in any doubt, remember that you are the outlier. But you've seem to become softer, either die to old age or parenthood, as I haven't seen you on a hardtail since you acquired a piece of property on SS5 at Ezel.
  18. If you think that opening the regulations of PEDs and expecting people to stick to guidelines and doing it under supervision to "dope safely" is living in LaLaLand. The guy who is doping already, will just push it to 11 to stay ahead of the others who just ate up the lead he already had. Are you living in LaLaLand or are you trolling?
  19. I'd rather have the current access gap wrt infrastructure and training, than add a more complex one. Me neither.
  20. No you don't need it. But going to be the counter point to every one else here. But a fullsus is more comfortable, faster over multi-days and more fun. I have a nice mid-range fullsus, and a very well specced hardtail. I didn't touch the hardtail for 6 months. Then I made it a SS, and now it gets ridden about twice a month. Your running and gym fitness shouldn't be a factor in your bike choice. Your riding style and preferences should.
  21. Agreed. On my drill I only use the 1,5ah units, I've yet to need more than two batteries in a day, and I've only needed a second battery after drilling many holes into steel. But the drill is well balanced with the small batteries, and they charge quickly. So I'm sticking to the mantra that it's the motion of the ocean that matters.
  22. @ChrisF this is right up your alley.
