  1. I've used everything including ghetto tubeless (20 inch tubes cut open,) cricket bat Fibre tape, stans rubber rim strips with built-in valves to the yellow Stan's tape over the years. Now I just use generic valves, Batseal and Gorilla tape that I cut down to the required width. You only need to cut the first bit, after that the tear remains straight. And I just stick new tape over the glue residue on the rim bed. And if I replace a spoke I just stick a new tape over aboit three holes next to the hole I inserted a new nipple into. Touch wood, I haven't had any tubeless issues in the last 5 years bar a ripped sidewall or two. I can't even remember the last time I've had to use a compressor to get a tyre to seal. We have it so good now.
  2. I'm pretty sure my Pro tire gauge uses a cr2032 battery.
  3. Any of the cage diving operators Gansbaai will sort you out. https://www.sharkcagediving.net/
  4. Hydrapak makes Salomon's soft flasks as well. Probably the bladders too. I'm using a Camelbak bladder in my Salomon backpack. Don't overthink bladders. If it fits, it will work.
  5. All three Spez saddles I've had developed a rail squeak. I'm now on a Syncros saddle on my main squeeze, and the last spez is on my SS. The spez saddles are nice, but the squeak is irritating enough that I now give them a skip pass.
  6. If anyone knows wether it's worth holding an event is them. They are long past doing events for love and charity.
  7. Etter. Glad you are back home safely. I've also had to be shipped off Helderberg with a broken wrist when I was a laaitie. Scaphoid. Out of curiosity, Who got you off the mountain? And how did they do it? I've been involved in a Wilderness Search and Rescue combined with Metro ambulance service to get a guy with a broken femur out of Eden. I believe that we should all have the Wilderness Search and Rescue number on our phones. (021) 937-0300 Well that is for the Western Cape at least.
  8. I was a skeptic. Now I have two of them. Both still have the Ryder lube in, I will eventually refill them with wet/dry lube. I am a lazy luber, this little tool makes me happy. @ouzo I put all my lubes and gels and stuffs in ziploc bags when I travel, thanks for confirming that it's a great idea. @ChrisF if you need to relube on a ride, stop when you see a stream, fill your bottle, wash chain off, relube. And then fill the bottle again if it's hot. I've spent many a weekend at Eselfontein, and even in summer there is enough water. Riding with one lubretta in a group is a great idea.
  9. Short answer: Covid Two years of uncertainty, strict regulations around events and participants hesitancy to pre-enter for events that mat get axed has taken it's toll. They will pop up again eventually. I won't be surprised if the events like Paratfees that are part of a bigger picture comes back by next year.
  10. The closest Toyota came to the Caddy is the Avanza. Totally worth a skip pass. So now they asked Suzuki to make a replacement, and they rebadged the Ertiga as a Toyota Rumion. I would still give it a skip pass and rather buy an Ertiga.
  11. If there is a stage race to do in a hardtail it is Sani2C. Those trails are manicured to perfection.
  12. Ja, mtbapp was probably a bit premature on the publish button. Liv, Garmin and Rola. Good looking kit.
  13. Probably a bit premature. Wil be confirmed in a couple of minutes.
  14. How long ago was that? Trek has has had a tumultuous distribution history in SA, and if it was in the Royalty Sports days then I'm not surprised. Dark Horse Brands then distributed Trek after that, but by then I've left the industry, so can't comment on them.
  15. You can't expect phhenning to contribute to STF because it's for the greater good of the community that he isn't a part of. Especially if he doesn't agree with their modus operandi. You also obviously don't know him personally . He has built up enough trail equity through drainage improvements, brush cutting and maintenance every winter. The type of guy who goes for a ride in the morning, and then hikes out in the afternoon with a spade and a saw to go fix the latest storm damage. But hey, he doesn't agree with you, so he is what's wrong with society.
  16. Au contraire. You are missing phenning's point. Or just dismissing it. He is choosing with his wallet and putting money where he sees it adding value. You are trying to impose what you find value in, on someone who really doesn't care about what's important to you. When it comes to HIM paying HIS money, it is about him and the trails he wants to ride. The trails in Eden was better 10 years ago, flip, it was better 15 years ago. And it was a better outdoor space then too. STF has just formalised what has always been there (not a bad thing) and dumbed down the trails to a lower common denominator ito skills (definitely a bad thing.) They haven't added any new trails in Eden. Just built subpar berms and jumps where it wasn't necessary. They have built a bit of trail next to the river, but if (like phhenning) you don't live in Stellenbosch, so it's much of a muchness. I am a Winelands Regional member, but I would have joined anyway if the STF wasn't part of it. Getting Wannabees, Helderberg, Paarl, Franschoek and Wellington on one plate is 👌
  17. We use a Feva seat, a giant seat (behind saddle, on a bike rack) and lately a Giant Halfwheeler. The Little Wing is definitely better executed than the FEVA seat. They serve the same purpose, but that is akin to comparing a Polo Vivo to a Audi A1. If I had a new showpony bike, then the Little Wing would have been the answer for us.
  18. When it comes to hip packs, smaller is better. Less bulk, less weight, less movement.
  19. Saw her riding in Rola colors yesterday with the big wig of Rola. I've also seen Alan Hatherley riding in a Rola branded Hilux.
  20. Went to check up on my favourite rock today. It's still there.
  21. A mate of mine was supposed too land a shipment of Cushcore a while ago. I think they are in Customs. They'll be hitting the market soon, and I'll post here when they are available. An adjustable tool is never the right tool. Why dont you guys have 24mm spanners? Fortunately my Revelation uses a cassette tool, so my big spanners stays at home. me too. I ride my forks softer, and with more progression. I'm an old school softy MTBer.
  22. Plus one for Burgtec!
  23. I must be spoiled because I buy my wood from suppliers in the Overberg and ship it down myself, as those prices are making my eyes water.
  24. And don't forget Kwa'thu.
  25. With a new restaurant and family friendly setup on the farm I can't wait to go. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2371003509696683&id=539614306168955&m_entstream_source=timeline
