  1. Pros : Keeps the mud off your face and fork stanchions Cheap Easy to DIY Fit and forget Cons: Won't keep the mud off your downtube, drivetrain and shoes. Stones can get caught in it of you have tall tyre knobs. But that will happen to most mud guards.
  2. The problem with these is that it's open next to the stanchions. Around the stanchions is exactly where you want it to be closed.
  3. Agreed. I go running. Or ride my singlespeed if I still want to ride. I loved thrashing around on it on the green belts this afternoon. Good clean muddy fun. I don't really train either. I go play outside.
  4. Ebike motors might be a different kettle of fish. But I've heard of Louis Knipe fixing a Giant ebike when the locals couldn't even diagnose it properly. So when you let the warranty go, you might be better off.
  5. My giant warranty claim for a cracked frame was processed quickly and honored with no questions asked. That bike was ridden hard, had scratches and eas serviced by me. So my anecdotal sample of one says you need not stress about that. But this was done through my local, and not the shop you are inferring to.
  6. I agree with Jewbacca. If you want to make money out of this venture, you need to sell products to people that don't like their money. And they tend to ride 100mm FS bikes at Sani2C, not trail bikes.
  7. The fullsus with that spec sounds similar to a Scott Genius 950, which retails for about 60k. I would rather pay 10k more on a bike with local support. This is why I didn't buy a Nukeproof, Canyon, Orbea or a YT at the start of the year and got the genius mentioned above. In essence you are offering second hand risk, on a brand new bike, so your price needs to be between 2nd hand and new.
  8. Unless you live in Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein and couriers can't find you, there is no reason to drink 1kg bags of old coffee. Freshly roasted for the win. I mean even the bustling metropolis of Gans Baai has two very good coffee roasters.
  9. I had a bit of a moment a few days ago. Went to quote on cutting down a tree at elderly people's house, and after a chat the uncle invited me into his workshop. He had a workshop the size of a double garage, but the real treasure was inside. I could see a panel saw, scroll saw, radial arm saw, spindle, two different lathes, and a massive workbench. All from many years ago, the panel saw had metric and imperial measurements on it. And he is still using it. He showed me some of the lamps he turned. Exquisite. He is 90. It was a humbling and inspiring experience.
  10. How good are you with a soldering iron? I had to open our Krups grinder to fix the button that broke off. I saw that it has two switches, one for the beans hopper cover and another for the grounds basket. Those wires can be joined together to leave the switch permanently open. That is what I would do if I had to use it with a portafilter. But mine gets used solely for aeropress and bialetti coffees, so it suits the job as is.
  11. I love this video. Have ridden all those trails except for the bit in Aquilla. Time to organise another weekend away….
  12. I use a cable combination lock when going to shops. It won't keep a determined thief out, but it will buy some time. To be honest, I just choose my accommodation where I'd be safe at night.
  13. If he want to use the fullsus, I'd rather get a strap on handlebar bag, and frame bag. And if you don't have a dropper, a lekker seat pack. But I have to agree, the chafing on a fancy bike would worry me as well.

  15. The support staff seems to be a tight knit community.
  16. Check out trailforks. The trails around town are mapped out there.
  17. I think carrying niche brands with sporadic stock replenishment made life hard for them.
  18. I've never had to replace Gorilla tape. So i can't comment on residue. When a spike needed replacement I just cut that hole, and put new tape over a 3hole segment. I am however very careful when applying tape to ensure it is straight, and in doing so I immediately press down on it after applying. That might help? But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if your tape is yellow or black or see through, if it seals and stays sealed, then you are winning.
  19. I haven't used a conversion kit in 11 years. I've used all kinds of tape, but now I only use Gorilla Tape. Another tip, buy the wide roll, and then cut the strip to suit your rim width. You only have to cut the first few cms, after that it tears of straight, the tape on top will keep your line and it will end up looking something like this.
  20. Yes. Tape the rim with Gorilla tape, slap valves and some sealant in there. Et voila!
  21. I had a Manic post. It was sensitive to too much force at the seatpost clamp, If I remember correctly the happy medium was 4 nm but with a generous helping of friction paste. phone the people at RBC in PE, they will be able to tell you what is wrong and need to ge done.
  22. Lekker! Enjoy it.
  23. My father's neighbor has a 2,7 Hilux. He asked me this weekend to check out a possible water leak. No leak, just aircon condensation. 13 years old, 270k kms and not a day's worry. Only service items. Those petrol engines might be thirsty, but they are reliable. Tbh, I wouldn't mind buying a FJ Cruiser or v6 Prado "for my wife."
  24. Hmmmm. I will admit that it became popular and mainstream in the last 5 years. But I bought a reverb for my wife 7years ago, from cwc, and it cost about 3k then. And there were cheaper options available then.
