  1. What bothers me is that you thought the whole Stock-meant-for-development-in -Botswana-but-sold-in-SA-for-a-song situation was unethical, and yet you and your brother went there looking for a bargain. You are no better than the guys diverting the stock meant for someone else, and no better than the shop buying everything up and putting it in their shop, and no better than the Bikehub tycoon snapping up a bargain to resell it.
  2. I was bored today, and I needed a marking gauge to help mark out mortise and tenon markings for a chair I want to build, so I made a marking gauge.
  3. Plus one for the GT Sensor. I was seriously looking into buying one earlier in the year, but they didn’t have my size so I ended up buying something else.
  4. The Stance might be a half decent entry level bike, but its not really a great trail bike. It doesn’t fit the OP’s criteria, other than being in the right price class. I’d give it a wide skip pass as well.
  5. Dopamine, endorphins, adrenaline, caffeine. Guilty as charged.
  6. Oooh I like the dovetail ends. That would have negated my dodgy cross clamp MacGyver plan i made when I glued up a chair. Yes I know, I need more clamps. Longer clamps. And shorter clamps. And more vice clamps. All the clamps.
  7. Your bike called. It says it wants to go for a ride. In Cape Town. And it heard that Durban is beautiful this time of the year.
  8. My point was that you can add about 500g - 1000g of salt to the Spark's stated weight on the website.
  9. Add some pinches of salt to that. According to their website my bike (Genius 950) weighs 14.5. Maybe for a small, without pedals and no sealant But my XL with a liberal amount of sealant weighs 15.7kg.
  10. That must be one of the least practical cars for a cyclist, but I'm all for it! I can hear the braaaap, crackle and whoosh noises already. While you are making life a little harder by following your heart and not buying something boring, quiet, white and boxy, add some more pizzazz by putting Thules on the roof. Aerowing is alles. Move the rack a bit forward so that the ironing board on the back clears the rack, preferably clears it with the bike on. If you put a strap on on the back, you'll look like someone who bought a car without thinking about bikes, and while that might be the case, it must never look like that is the case. What vehicle does your wife have? Put a tow bar on that for when you go to the park.
  11. That is one container of crappy Chinese imports that should have stayed stuck in the Suez.
  12. Tell him to rent it from a tool rental place because you are not lending out tools. Period. I'd that has an affect on your friendship, then it needs re-evaluation.
  13. Indeed. It is used to trigger the AXS Reverb dropper.
  14. Might not be a good idea. Rear shocks are tuned to each bike. The compression and rebound tunes will be adapted to the bike that Ohlins came from. It may be adaptable to the spark, but I just won't bother. Sparks are lightweight race bikes, and have well sorted rear shocks throughout the range. What bike is it and what shock is on it? The coil will add weight and very little performance advantage.
  15. My Ford barely made it past 26k kms before it needed a new engine. Sadly, the local dealership is still bumbling around after having it for more than 26 working days. #howtoloseafanintenways
  16. I have some big boots to fill. In this town, and life in general. Fortunately he is still around and we have a great friendship.
  17. We have a lekker community vibe here in slummies west. I learned it from my father. Eg. When storms came in we prepped the chainsaws to be ready before the call came in. When the hospital flooded the bakkies were lined up to help transport patients. Now it's my turn. A willingness to help and get dirty when needed makes the world a better place.
  18. 100% the reason I went for isotherm. And the fact that it doesn't burn. BaGearA is young, and his house is small. He should be fine. I still need to do one room, and I'll do the flatlet later as well. But if you are paying someone else to do it, you may as well get a quote from the spray foam insulation guys.
  19. I bought Isotherm 100mm rolls. Then I cut the rolls to the width to fit between my roof beams. We cut it with scissors, but apparently a saw would have worked as well. Then I waited until night when it was colder in the roof and laid the rolls between the beams. We have a big house, so it was spread over two nights, and a friend helped me. But it was the best cheap upgrade we've done. I hardly ever use the aircon or a heater.
  20. Not on the racing snake weight weenie frame. Ironically my 2010 BMC Fourstroke frame was just slightly heavier (smidgen over 2kg) and it had a DW type link. It was a 26er though, so it was a bit smaller.
  21. I had a similar thought while racing home to beat the rain last night. Ive had rather expensive fancy road shoes before, but last night I was in the Adu duramos, a relatively inexpensive pair I bought on markdown when money was tight, and I just realized how I haven't though about my feet in ages while wearing these. Does anything matter more than that?
  22. Plus one. I'd rather read about the three out-of-body experiences @Jewbaccamust have had, the epic Jurassic Park scenery, how deep the hole was he had to dig himself out and how he never wants to do it again, but is doing it again in a months time. If he ends it with: "the torch did its job, lasted six days and seven nights. 8 out of ten Chillis rating " then Scotty will be happy as well, even if he doesn't know.
  23. Jeez, sending out requests to others to object against the main interest of your new land lord seems a great way to shoot yourself in the foot. Methinks BSB might need to start looking for a new location in the future.
  24. Your Roval lasted that long? Well done!
  25. I was considering Enduro Seal, but then the guy that makes them posted a photo on SM with a corroded valve hole. The sort of corrosion that happens when there is ammonia in the sealant. So I'm back on the fence wrt Enduro seal and back on batseal. Will reconsider when it runs out, but my skepticism radar went haywire at that.
