  1. ITO the levo question, I think the weight difference between ali and carbon is so little compared to the combined power outputs that I don't think that it would make a lot of difference. Also bear in mind that you'll be eating drivetrain much faster on the help-my-trap, so if cost is a concern, then the 11spd cassettes will be cheaper to maintain when worn out.
  2. Is this a case of keeping up with the new Jones? Because it seems you never had the need for a ebike until you rode with him? And you have other people to ride with who don't ride ebikes. I don't ride with mates on ebikes, if you want to ride with me because you want my conversation, then ride your normal bike. I don't think it's unfair to expect that from your mate as well. But let's face it, ebikes are a whole lot of fun, and you will enjoy riding it. And if you have the money to do it, then do with it what YOU want. But be honest with yourself with your reasons, then you won't be surprised later if you don't ride your normal bike anymore.
  3. Relatively hard, it's about 8-9years old, used to live in a platteland coffee shop, and I use it 2-3 times per day, so it's had a soft pre-retirement. But it isn't in the same class as the Mazzers. If I can't fix it, I'll look for a second hand commercial unit. It's sad that there are a lot of coffee shop equipment floating around.
  4. This morning while grinding my coffee grinder made that horrible arcing noise, spat some blue sparks and let it's black smoke out. Now I know when the black smoke escapes from appliances they are usually pretty dead. But a quick look at Facebook marketplace for a lekker grinder tells me I know to see if I can refill the black smoke in it. It's a Simonelli Grinta, a pretty good grinder, and after working on my Oscar I know it's basic and pretty robust inside, so hopefully some electric acrobatics can save the day here.
  5. Back to topic How good is your woodworking skills? Because if you are still wet around the ears like myself, I would suggest not building the beds themselves from scratch, but to take two pine beds (they probably already have one of these each,) and convert them into a bunk bed by putting one on stilts in a config that suits your rooms. And for this I would use stronger joints and proper bolts. But I would defer to the council of the lumberjack in this regard. Sidenote: My brother had a lot of time in one of his varsity holidays, and decided to build metal stilts for his koshuis bed so that they had more room for activities. Being a know-it-all med student he welded it up himself, and did a pretty good job. Well that is what he thought until my father returned and realised that all the welds were just tacked together in place and he didn't run a single full bead. Needless to say my dad finished the job before taking him back to res. The laaitie has since become a pretty decent doctor, but I still don't trust his diy skills. Ironically, he now drives a Land Rover.
  6. Imagine Pure Savage in flannel.... Myles already has the flannel and the beard....
  7. Calm down big boy, this isn't tinder for woodworkers...
  8. I'm a bib guy. Those mesh liners get tossed immediately. But for short rides (<90mins) I'll sommer ride in my seamless underpants.
  9. Buying beans before my stock runs out is a constant struggle. Now I've managed to sync my habit with my (current favourite) local roaster. He roasts on Thursdays, I buy on Friday and it usually goes into the hopper on Monday/Tuesday. Oooh that reminds me, it's Friday.
  10. I also have a 6 year old dakine pant that refuses to die. It was plum, now it's just faded purple, and I stiched up a hole in the pockets, but its length is lekker and I'm not aware of it when riding, so it will be ridden in for a while still. I should get another one.
  11. I ride in long sleeve running tops. Mr Price Sport and H&M actually has nice running kit every now and then. I will invest in nice baggies though. Stretchy material with a crotch that is close to your actual crotch is what you want.
  12. I have a Porlex mini. If you take the rubber band off it nests inside the aeropress I can only compare it against my mate's rhino grinder (or something like that.) The Rhino is bigger and grinds faster, but it can't grind fine enough for my liking.
  13. I stand corrected. The handles of the portafilter and tamper was a gift from @CJ Van. He turned them himself on a lathe my dad gave him.
  14. This had me nostalgic about my time in Cape Town and when I met my wife. And then at about 04:40 a full on car jamming out session erupted, much t ook the delight of the lady in the car next to me.
  15. Found some Delux(e!) in Ceres. Couldn't help myself. Edit/spelling
  16. Okay, time to get back to awesome. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEKoR5KnvJ7/?igshid=di0ffqjl4umk
  17. True. My intention was not too defend the pitbull, but to warn people against the feisty fluffy as well. If fluffy bites a kid in the face it will leave scars. Which one is more likely to be squeezed and picked up by said child? It will be the fluffy one.
  18. Poodle is more likely to snap though, as you are more likely to be in it's space and irritate it. Bottom line : we need to show all dogs more respect.
  19. We went for a walk with Baloo (big fluffy bear) and Bella (tiny fluffy) at a park popular with dog people over the weekend. When a pit bull and a staffie came over to say hi, a lady that was with us said we needed to move as there was too many dangerous type dogs around. She couldn't fathom when I tried to explain to her that Baloo is potentially as dangerous (45kg very protective dog) as the pittie that said hi. The problem is that the fighting breeds create sensation so they are reported more, and people that don't know dogs see them all as the same. I teach my kids to be careful of all dogs and to not approach them until allowed to, as a Jack Russell and a Yorkie can also cause a lot of unneeded pain.
  20. I have a special place in my heart for The Berrio. It was the first wine farm where I delivered fertilizer when I started my business (dangerous goods transport.) Now nearly all the wine farms in the area buys from my clients and I make a point of visiting them for wine tastings when I'm in the area. Now that I think of it, I reckon going to Gansbaai and spending my birthday on Lomond's lawn sounds just right.
  21. It's not wine, but it's wine.
  22. Oooh lekker! Now it's the fun part where you write off a bag of beans (and milk if you roll like that) while playing with it to dial it in. Enjoy!
  23. Mind sharing the welders details? Even if it's in a pm. I have a frame with a cracked seatpost that I want to take a chance on.
  24. As jy dooswyn drink is dit nie asof jy enige skaamte nog oor kan hĂȘ nie, so dis seker maar Okay?
