  1. My Oscar threw a steamy tantrum, so I stripped it and dug into it after seeing how Meezo sorted his machine's steamy tantrum. The 3way valve had limescale in it, blocking the release valve. Now it is working lekker again, and has more pressure than it had before, so a clean-up has been on the cards for a while. I'll get some citric acid and do a lekker descale flush sometime.
  2. Sjoeewee! One day when I grow up I'll get a naked portafilter. Or drill and file out one of my own.
  3. wait, are you going to file away at carbon, at the part where you hold onto to prevent your stem from altering your teeth?you are a brave man.

  5. Getting a 40ft cat to the bloem marina will need more than a Hilux. Hopefully he knows someone with a croozer.
  6. I, like Dave, don't see the need to join a running club. I run alone, or with my wife. But on the other hand Daren, joining a club was the best thing my cousin did when she started running it provided the structure and motivation that she needed, and she progressed immensely.
  7. https://youtu.be/dgIdcIzHG38 I loved watching this. I picked up an old Stanley 6 in a platteland pawn shop that I need to restore soon. Watching this just affirmed to me to not buy cheap planes. Or cheap tools when I don't have to.
  8. This soap opera and the Stellenbosch fork drama just affirms my resolve to never buy something sight unseen.
  9. When I finished my pour over stand couldn't find my butchers block mineral oil, so I used baby oil. It's paraffin anyway.
  10. I mainly used my Assegaai for races and shuttle days. But it was a double d Maxx Grip tyre. The Eliminator had a bit less grip, but weighed half a ton less, so was way better to live with. I swapped my lekker sixxfiddy tyres for two used Assegaais today. I'll probably put the better one on the front and something like an Aggressor on the back when winter arrives.
  11. Idle hands and scrap wood led to a pour over stand.
  12. I am also a fan of the eliminator on the front. I have a 29x2.6 Dissektor on the front now. But I can't say whether it's the different wheelsize, different bike or different tyres, but I'm having a jol up and down Helderberg with that tyre. It can stay. 2.6 dissektor on the front and 2.6 rekon at the back. I'm liking the low rolling resistance and predictable sliding of this combo. I also had a dissektor on the back of the old bike, and it worked very well there. Only rode it a couple of times though.
  13. With rubber, durability is a trade-off against grip. Softer rubber grips better, harder tyres last longer. Maxxis calls their tiers MaxxTerra, MaxxGrip and Super Tacky.
  14. I don't put cheap tyres on my cars either. I also operate a fleet of trucks. MTB tyre costs pale into significance.
  15. I have no experience with Minions. Haven't ridden dhr or dhf.
  16. Aquila is way better than the Ibex. And I was an ardent Ibex fan.
  17. The Mountain Community in George would be where I'd shop in your Valley. When you are there sommer look at the Naked range of running packs and belts. I have a Naked belt and a Salomon 14L. I use the belt and a 500ml soft bottle on most runs, and only when necessary do I use the backpack (usually when I pack a jersey or more than 500ml of water.) I usually fill up when running. There are many streams around here.
  18. Get dial-up, but at the price of Fibre through their "authorized supplier."
  19. One thing is for certain. Trail will lead to stronger ankles and better proprioception. Your ankles will learn to bend in every which way without complaint.
  20. I like the bevels.
  21. Keep in mind that they won't last as long , and how much effort it is to knock old bearings out and press new ones in. If you do the work yourself, then only you can put a value on it.
  22. Sequoia is a land cruiser, Diverge is a Hilux. I reckon wrap the Diverge in vynil (DIY or fancy kit) and go riding with it. You will be doing less full on touring style rides than you think.
  23. I distinctly remember you being told to buy the damn bike.... But that was before you bought a bus. May have burned a bridge there. For what you want to do, any bike will do. So pick a comfy, fun bike to ride.
  24. we do that first thing when we get back from the harbour. Boat, engines and trailer gets washed before I do. Soutwater is 'n bliksem.
  25. Moenie jou aan Mona, Martie en hulle maatjies steur nie.
