  1. Had a chat about this with Wifey last night. We reckon a good way to bounce back from this would be to partner with a grass roots development crew like Songo.info instead of handing out an ambassadorship to a couple of influencers. Be seen to be making a real difference.
  2. More like: Merida/ Specialized VW Golf / Audi A3 Polo / A1 Comparing a polo to an Aventador is akin to comparing a budget hardtail to an Sworks Epic.
  3. To understand why people would pay more for the dentist bikes we need to disengage our logical brain and engage our emotional brain. Less engineer, more marketing. Less value, more yuppie.
  4. Faaaark me, we use less gear and bags on an actual bikepacking trip.
  5. wait, are you going to file away at carbon, at the part where you hold onto to prevent your stem from altering your teeth?you are a brave man.

  7. Getting a 40ft cat to the bloem marina will need more than a Hilux. Hopefully he knows someone with a croozer.
  8. I, like Dave, don't see the need to join a running club. I run alone, or with my wife. But on the other hand Daren, joining a club was the best thing my cousin did when she started running it provided the structure and motivation that she needed, and she progressed immensely.
  9. It undermines the rating system, so it is defeating the purpose of the imaginary negative rating.
  10. This, and the broken Di2 saga just reaffirms that I will not only buy something sight unseen, but also not sell it sight unseen. To add to the drama we now even have people rating the buyer without ever buying from said buyer. What stops people from abusing it further and giving negative ratings to people because they don't like the tone of their messages to a mate.
  11. It has been a roller coaster for them. First it was lockdown and no sales. Then they had a boom and sold whatever they had in stock and whatever they could find. Now they are scrambling for stock again. But they knew it was was coming, and those who could, ordered large amounts of stock ahead. It is the little guys that are going to chomp at the short end of the stick though.
  12. When new, you'll struggle to feel the difference between BBs. But after a season or a winter I can feel the difference when the cheap BB becomes rough. Shimano BBs usually gets replaced every two years, but I open them up, pry the seals away and regrease the bearings. After two years that becomes farting against thunder. My Hope BB never asked for any attention. Better seals on a BB matters. With headsets I service my generics and Cane Creek headsets equally often (read: clean and grease,) and they both still feel good. Much of a muchness.
  13. https://youtu.be/dgIdcIzHG38 I loved watching this. I picked up an old Stanley 6 in a platteland pawn shop that I need to restore soon. Watching this just affirmed to me to not buy cheap planes. Or cheap tools when I don't have to.
  14. I rest my case. If you can find a bike that is close to what you want in your size, take it. Don't hesitate, just take it. They might have a bike in stock, or in the Dragons Sport warehouse, but in his size, that is another story. Julien and his team can only sell what he can source.
  15. Don't hold your breath. I asked them about a Trance in my size, it will be here in September. So I bought a Scott.
  16. This soap opera and the Stellenbosch fork drama just affirms my resolve to never buy something sight unseen.
  17. When I finished my pour over stand couldn't find my butchers block mineral oil, so I used baby oil. It's paraffin anyway.
  18. I mainly used my Assegaai for races and shuttle days. But it was a double d Maxx Grip tyre. The Eliminator had a bit less grip, but weighed half a ton less, so was way better to live with. I swapped my lekker sixxfiddy tyres for two used Assegaais today. I'll probably put the better one on the front and something like an Aggressor on the back when winter arrives.
  19. Idle hands and scrap wood led to a pour over stand.
  20. I am also a fan of the eliminator on the front. I have a 29x2.6 Dissektor on the front now. But I can't say whether it's the different wheelsize, different bike or different tyres, but I'm having a jol up and down Helderberg with that tyre. It can stay. 2.6 dissektor on the front and 2.6 rekon at the back. I'm liking the low rolling resistance and predictable sliding of this combo. I also had a dissektor on the back of the old bike, and it worked very well there. Only rode it a couple of times though.
  21. With rubber, durability is a trade-off against grip. Softer rubber grips better, harder tyres last longer. Maxxis calls their tiers MaxxTerra, MaxxGrip and Super Tacky.
  22. If I had the money to build it I would be all over that Solaris frame. Soos 'n vetseun op 'n cupcake.
  23. I don't put cheap tyres on my cars either. I also operate a fleet of trucks. MTB tyre costs pale into significance.
  24. I have no experience with Minions. Haven't ridden dhr or dhf.
  25. Also a henge fan. And then I rode the Syncros Tofino on my new bike. First OEM saddle that I gelled with immediately. Ek mag dalk 'n Henge vir jou hĂȘ...
