  1. There’s a bit of a lull in the action, so here’s an aside. I’ve admired the exploits and successes of TeamUAE and especially the exraordinary talent and effort of Pogačar. It's sparked curiosity about whether anyone here would have reservations about doing work for/with a client or employer associated with widespread and serious human rights violations? To qualify the question: I stopped working with a major client, a multinational corporate, when they were bought out by Degussa. That company is of course notorious for processing millions of jaws of those who died in German concentration camps in WW2, in order to extract gold from their teeth. I started refusing to do business with any level of the SA state about 14 years ago when I realised it was becoming endemically corrupt. I’m not virtue signalling, I’m outright stating that I won’t do business with the corrupt or criminal. My ex SiL and her hubby are devout Christians but have no qualms about befriending the likes of the dodgy (traitorous, IMO) Zumas and Mbalulas and Gigabas, who'd occasionally turn up at family birthdays. I’m outspoken and they were concerned about what I might say when those @R$3#0L3$ were present. Where does one draw one’s proverbial line? Would you have reservations about working for the likes of Qatar or UAE or Degussa? Am interested so just asking...
  2. After checking bikehub daily and the LBS’s I got a good Novatec deal on eBay, thanks mate.
  3. The sit bones, hands, feet, and even me loins started tingling for action right after I clicked on that.
  4. Did the raw treatment myself on a different brand 2021 hardtail frame and had the holographic decals made up locally (just R184 for 2 sets at a print shop), it gets admiring looks and comments. Great colourway, LBS guys were positively drooling when they bled the brakes for me and I’m doing the same treatment for one LBS guy’s trail HT. Your frameset’s simply gorgeous, even more so with those carbon seat stays.
  5. https://www.thedailybeast.com/kaitlin-armstrong-accused-of-killing-cyclist-moriah-wilson-sold-car-before-going-on-the-lam?ref=wrap The Daily Beast is always good with the details in news and analysis pieces.
  6. Excellent initiative! And there’s no telling how many many will benefit. Wish my kids and I were around for the ride, best wishes.
  7. That kinda approach can have broader negatives for us all, especially taxpayers. Someone who married into the ex’s family prepared his tender documents for the notorious Ekurhuleni portable toilets tender on my kitchen table. He had to borrow cash to travel back to his Gauteng home. I saw the guy a year later at a funeral where he turned up in his shiny new Range Rover Sport. Additionally, a top-of-the-line Merc sedan was garaged at his fully paid up, just completed, very large Midstream Estates home. “if they’re dumb enough to pay that much” were his precise words!? Not at all a stretch to see how that harms us all. One imagines the Guptas probably thought the same thing. And yes I got my "travel cash” loan back, interest free.
  8. It wasn’t driven by any malevolence. I’ve read every post on that thread in at least the last 18 months and at its spikiest I observed no malevolence or underhanded intent, info and bants predominated IMO. I’ve found it exceptionally helpful in guiding this noob’s several component and bike purchases completed because of bike hub (edit: bikehub). Gratitude all around.
  9. Yeah, I’m a relative noob and that classifieds thread provided an excellent knowledge well and learning experience, guiding me in the 7 or 8 bikehub purchases I've made in the last 18 months. Was a sale virgin until today when I sold my Pike Ultimate 140mm. I started a thread to express thanks after Hairy’s classifieds thread was shut but that was shut down within an hour. I’ll say it here, much thanks to all you informed and sharp-eyed peeps.
  10. That looks amazing. Love them night rides, usually solo, and the trails are just a few blocks away so they’re done frequently.
  11. Kinda unorthodox way for Juan Sebastian Molano to ensure that TeamUAE got something out of the race, one of their riders...
  12. Asking here first. Wanting to buy a front boost (15X110mm) 32 hole hub in good condition, preferably in black please. Edit: Plus the axle, if that’s available as well.
  13. Guess we lucked into a small group of considerate and generous mates who all happen to be different ethnicities. If only the lazy gits would get back on their bikes...
  14. … with the obligatory dozens of bodyguards all wearing the same dark glasses. How else could a politician possibly be assured of their importance? A mayor in my city tried to increase his bodyguard count from 16 to 32, and intimidated an excellent and professionally head-hunted but short-lived municipal manager into hiding and resigning when she refused. Watching cricket at Sydney CG was bonkers, I think the same rules were applied at Kamp Staaldraad.
  15. Hilarious to see Moanrinho crying over a Conference League win a few years after he sneered that the Europa League is for losers.
  16. Is that why the ANC leader neighbour has had so many burglaries-robberies in the last few years? Those burglars have a looming expiry date on all that loot next door, the SIU recently attached and appropriated his property...
  17. The new Highway Code that took effect on 29 January this year in the UK establishes a hierarchy of road users on the principle that those who can do the most harm must exercise the most responsibility to avoid it. Road users most at risk are at the top of the hierarchy. It goes: Pedestrians Cyclists Horse riders Motorcyclists Cars/taxis Vans/minibuses Large vehicles such as trucks and truck and trailers and buses The law recommends that cyclists occupy the middle of the lane even if riding abreast, and they may do so even if there’s a cycle path available. I’m not sure that that's workable here with our relatively low levels of traffic compliance. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/new-highway-code-rule-changes-2022-b2005289.html
  18. Can’t agree more. This approach worked unfailingly in 19 years of operating various endeavours and socialising and running club nights in the historically beautiful but crime-ridden Central-on-the-Hill in my city. Our students (and also our clubbers) paying hard cash meant that I frequently walked half a dozen blocks to the bank with that. 360° vigilance and avoiding threats has become natural and relaxed while cycling the city or trails at all hours. And still a minibus taxi driver took me out on a dedicated cycle path…. Ain’t stopping this old geezer.
  19. Son on to proverbially don that as things stand. Even as a gooner am kinda hoping for that, he deserves it.
  20. That gap jump and steep landing zone looks exhilarating, this ole geezer would love to have a few goes at that. (And yes, am well-practiced at going OTB).
  21. Don’t you just know it, the “it was a moment of poor judgement” thing only works with minor traffic offences. In those years responding as a critical care paramedic I far too often dealt with the carnage of those moments of rage within families or among friends.
  22. Loads of cycle paths, and wide almost-no-pedestrians pavements, in my area on the way to the trails, and still a taxi driver succeeded in decking me on a cycle path a few months ago. He was still counting his wad of cash when he got out from behind the wheel. Got enough of his cash to replace the rim and a few spokes and the phone screen, medaid took care of the rest. ON AN EFFING DEDICATED CYCLE PATH!
  23. With all Nino's punctures, rebrand Maxxis to Minnis you mean...
  24. Extended beach closures in place at the moment and Philani Mavundla (deputy mayor) has a few minutes ago stated that the 80% of waste water plants not functional will take quite some time to repair and one has to be entirely replaced.
  25. Oddly enough, applies to “shopping” relationships as well. Don’t know how I ended up with two exceptionally beautiful partners (if friends and acquaintances are believed) in the last 20 years, but they’re kewlll and down-to-earth as well.
