We found that Stella farted something terrible on Brand A and switched food until we found one that didn't make her fart the most foul of gasses.............yes, you guessed right............the most ridiculously expensive brand known to man!

My honest opinion? If you want to load 2 bikes, get a hang off the back 3-bike carrier. For 3 bikes, get a 4-bike ride on rear carrier For more bikes, get a roof rack carrier or both roof top and towbar racks. Even a trailer top rack? The only time a hang off the back rack that can fit 3 bikes reasonably is when you carry three older style road bikes with easy to fit frame geometry. Mountain bikes and especially small kiddie bikes are nearly impossible to carry without damage.

Nice to hear about your training Duane. I'm at an " interesting" stage with my training for Stella (Labrador). She is now 18 months and basically she knows all the commands I need to teach her (voice, whistle and hand signals). What makes it interesting now, is that she is in that terrible "teenager" stage where she has figured out that she can try and push her luck. She will hear the whistle, stop and look at me, clearly cocking her head and thinking "how long can I put this off before he does something?" If she is is a stubborn mood, then I get challenged all the time.........but luckily I know that I just have to wear her down and that she'll grow into adulthood when around 2 years old. The old guy who taught me about retriever training once said that to have a very smart dog is both a delight and a challenge, because they learn the right thing and the wrong thing equally quickly. True words.

Yes, they seem to be relaxed about cycling through, but if you enter at a place where there is access control, like from Woolsack Drive, they will sometimes stop you. If you enter from one of the other directions where there are no guards or gates, there is nothing stopping you.

As with all of upper campus, the tracks are still closed. You are not allowed up there unless you have specific permission to be on campus, and very few have, mostly postgraduate researchers, admin and repair / maintenance staff. The Covid 3rd wave must subside first before campus will partly reopen. As for it going back to "before Covid" status, I think that is still very far off . There is no time frame yet for opening upper campus or the XC track, but I would not bet money on it opening by years end, perhaps even later? I have an idea UCT will have to cut a lot of the tall pines there to make it safe and reduce the fire risk, perhaps clear cut that whole slope, and that will take time. The logging will also destroy the tracks and they will then need serious rebuilding. (Thumbsuck / guess, I know.) The jumps below the M3 are open and rideable. Some of the local diggers / jumpers have started fixing them up again. However, many have gone home when UCT shut down and there was no longer a need for them to stay on or close to campus, so don't expect the usual winter digging and building to happen.

My one son has been waiting since November last year for a competency certificate. Several enquiries - nada. Dead quiet. Nobody wants to even guess where in the process it is or how long it will take or even if it will ever work its' way through the shitty guts of a broken system.

As far as I know it is the sewerage works servicing the whole of the West Coast including all the new developments, that have not been upgraded and expanded to cope with the increased volume of new ****, so they cannot treat the raw sewerage sufficiently and release a massive volume of half treated sewerage back into the stream that enters into the vleis and the lagoon. DuNoon cannot help the situation, but it is not the only culprit. Rietvlei was recently closed because it was unsafe for watersports and the Milnerton Aquatic Club basically stopped functioning because of dangerously high levels of e-coli in the water. If you look at the water hyacinth overgrowth and the forests of it drifting out into the bay, then that system is SEVERELY polluted. (I was part of a plastics clean up there this very morning and I tell you, it is SHOCKING - a very shitty blot on the (mostly good) name of the Cape Town City Council. The Black river is probably as bad or worse (smells the same and as clogged with hyacinth and plastic). The exact same can be said for the streams and vleis in the Muizenberg area. Horribly polluted and abused. The Liesbeeck is a lot better, but mostly because of landowners and residents (not the council) keeping it clean. The numbers of homeless and vagrants overrunning the Liesbeeck lately, makes it difficult and sometimes dangerous though. ???? OK, that was my rant for the day!

The smell of sewerage also serves as a wake up call from 100 metres away. Disgusting.

Love it to see someone making a good call and not get blinded by marketing bling. Rook Cycles are a good bunch who give good service, price their bikes reasonably and sell cool stuff. Enjoy and ride safely. B.t.w. no matter how much you pay for a helmet, just take one decent tumble and you will consider it a bargain! Been there and done that a good few times. Keep your invoice for the helmet, Giro normally has a replacement policy that means that if you crash and damage it, they will sell you a new one at a greatly reduced price, provided you can show where and when you bought it.

Just not down plum pudding Hill or they'll take up half of the hospital beds with their broken bones..........????

I can tell you the names of dogs I worked with 20 years ago, while I forgot the names of the owners loooong ago. Some strange names among then, like Cargo and Cash. Cash got his name because he cost a pretty penny and the breeder insisted on payment in paper money. Cargo was imported from the USA and came in a crate with the word Cargo written in big letters on it. One Labrador was named Gertie but her owner never called her anything but Fat Bitch. Everyone else were kind enough to use her real name. Also lots of shooting related names (all gundogs) like Rigby and Nitro. One guy caled all his dogs girl names starting with an M, Muffin, Martha etc. Still waiting for a Muppet. My own dogs names all have a connection with their colours, Coco, Rufus etc. Strange how people decide on names, but memorable.

It is a very difficult area to stitch neatly, but it can be done. I have taken all manners of shoes to them for quite complex repairs and they always did a good job.
