I suspect that something has changed in the compound of the Gatorskin tyres, and it aint good. I have always used Gatorskins without hassle, but recently I started experiencing a crazy amount of punctures on my road bike. On inspection, I noticed that the side walls were kinda rotting with all threads coming outta them - and they were not even that old or that worn. Anyway, i changed the tyres (this time to Bontrager), and have not had a puncture on my road bike since. BUT last week, i had 2 punctures on my hybrid, which have .......(yeah u guessed it....Gatorskins, and also they aiont really that worn cos I use this bike mainly on the idt. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this syndrome. Anyway, Porky, you will be proud of me cos I have exercised my consumer rights and bitched like to the LBS, who promised to take this up with Coninental. Thus far though they have done f..... all about it. Lastly. Sending the wife to buy tyres (whether for car or bike) is kinda like sending me to buy tampons. Its no wonder she got ripped off!

You just could not be satisfied with running 2 oceans and riding your bike, and making sure that nobody idolises their LBS! Now you are pissing off the big boys. I recently acquired a speed sensor for my 2nd bike, and inserted the odometer reading for that bike (from the readingmy old cycle computer). The problem is that when I did that, the watch deleted the odometer reading of the first bike, and this deletion was also uploaded to the polar personal trainer software on my laptop. Try as I might I just do not seem to be able to get the watch or the software to capture and maintain 2 seperate readings for each bike. Even though there are seperate fields per radio button for each bike, they both display the same reading, and that reading goes up irrespective which bike I have ridden. I just cannot understand how the watch and the software caters for 2 bikes and their respective settings, but cannot seem to handle an odometer reading for each? Maybe I doing something stupidly wrong! Has anyone else experienced this? is there a solution?

I wish I had seen this thread yesterday - I have just taken delivery of a new set of these. Was real happy with my purchase until I read this! Johan, my technical ability is just about zero, so I do not pretend to properly appreciate all that you have said here. That said, do I undertand you correctly to say that there may, in your opinion, be an inherent design fault with these wheels. If so, is it not reasonable to assume that: 1. The incidence of this occurring would have been very widely reported; and 2. These wheels should have been subjected to a worldwide recall by Easton?

My LBS tells me that the rear rim of my Bontrager wheel is cracked - they are having difficulty getting a new rim. Is there anybody who can help me either repair the rim (or advise as to whether that is ever do-able), or preferably sell me a new one - or maybe a new wheel/ wheels? As you see, i aint very technically minded, but I am sick of the bike languishing at the LBS ; its been there for a week. Any help in any form would be appreciated. Harryn2009-03-22 05:18:23

Thank you, Brandon, for your detailed and forthright reply. First off I would like to assure you that i have no axe to grind with you or any of your competitors. I am not at all involved in the cycling industry - my interest stems purely from the fact that i like to ride my bike. That said, do you not think that it is very anti-competitve to be moving stock at below cost with the express intent of "wiping out" out a competitor? Do you not think that could be interpreted as a gross abuse of your company's dominance in the industry?
