  1. The content of the enquiry of the OP is indeed legitimate and interesting to people who need Halaal (and kosher) food. Unfortunately, his chosen hub name makes it difficult to take his post seriously. Why anyone would choose to use the name of a mass murderer as his hub name is beyond me. Bin Laden is not only responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people, but also for inducing the intense anti-Islam backlash. My objection to the thread is thus not the content of the opening post per se (or even some of the stupid responses), but rather the fact that the OP chooses to associate his "religious enquiry" with Osama Bin Laden. In so doing, he does a supreme injustice to Moslem people generally. I find it offensive.
  2. No. In a criminal case the state has to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. In a civil case, the onus of proof is on a balance of probabilities.
  3. I have a Polar S725x. I upload my workout data to Polar ProTrainer 5, and to www.polarpersonaltrainer.com, through Polar Weblink. I have noticed that that their is a variance in the distances as reported between Pro Trainer on the one hand, and the website (and the watch itself) on the other. For instance, today the watch recorded my ride distance as being 28,4km, which is consistent with what has been uploaded to the website. However, Pro Trainer list the distance for the same mtn bike ride as being only 27.8km. The funny thing is that on the road bike workouts, Pro Trainer slightly overstates the distance. What confuses me is that the data which is being upload to both platforms is from the same source - so I just cannot understand why there is there any variance at all. Has anyone experienced the same thing - or does anyone know of what could be causing this?
  4. Did you buy it before or after 1 April 2011?
  5. I spin at Old Eds and at Greenstone. Fortunately, to date they have not changed the bikes yet at either gym. So, today I asked the instructor if the change was in the pipeline, and she was very tight lipped about it all. It seemed to me from the little she did say, that this issue has been a big bone of contention with the instructors, and I gleaned enough to figure out that they have been instructed not to air their feelings about the new bikes with the spinning public. Hope someone in management is reading this thread.
  6. Maybe you should change the title thread back to its original format. That way people will know even before they open the thread that they are dealing with a total plonker.
  7. http://firstascent.co.za/contact.php Talk to Aisha. She was v helpful and efficient.
  8. I want to compliment First Ascent on fantastic customer service. My chamois degraded somewhat, so I sent the bibs back to them. Even though they are of the view that I wrecked the chamois by using Sta Soft and high temperatures, they have agreed to replace the bibs. No hassle, no fuss. Pleasure to deal with!
  9. When I first started cycling, my first bike was a Trek 3700, and its still hanging in the garage. Its bullet proof, but heavy as lead. When the bug bites you will want to upgrade, so I agree with all the advice about 2nd hand. Don't get me wrong, I have had loads of fun on the bike, and still haul it out on the odd occasion to ride around with my kid, but I would have saved money if I had just bought what I ride now in the first place I suppose.
  10. We all go through red light lights all the time. You stop, check that there are no cars, and if its safe you go, FFS. What's the big deal?
  11. Magic. I am putting in Thomas Voekler for Wiggins.
  12. thanks. what about about the rest of my questions.\?
  13. I am Thinking of going tubeless on my brand new beautiful bike (a 26er, sorry about that), using the NO FLATS stuff I see advertised here. I like whole shpiel they give about its cool to use it with bombs and that.Has anyone tried the stuff out and is it as good as they say, or should I just go with the big brand, Stans? Any definitive , experience laden, and constructive advice for a newbie MBR will be much appreciated. Also, to take things to their most embarrassingly basic level, what are benefits of going tubeless, and what are the cons, if any. Is it true that you can lower pressures on tubless. If so , why? Many thanks.Harry
  14. What's wrong with coffee with sweetner and having it skinny?
  15. @jmaccelari Magic, thanks for your efforts. I will keep an eye on this thread.
  16. If Dischem R4S is now a seeding race, then this is only provisional - right?
  17. forgive me if this is obvious - when one collects a race number how do you actually prove you have a license?
  18. Mark Hi. Thanks for all the info. My pre-race meal/training is and has always been a cup of coffee with 2 slices of wholewheat toast with peanut butter (not sugar free). I am not about to change this. Should I stop wasting my time with 32GI, and just go back to gels? P.S: The 32gi has been working well for me (with this meal) but I have not done more than a 3.5 hour ride on it yet. P.P.S : I am just a weekend warrior, and am not competitive or anything and just do this for fun and exercise - but I still wanna try and finish within the best time that my age and limited ability allow.
  19. I know the results are provisional, but there is something really wrong with them. I was seeded DL. The 2 mates who I rode with were seeded EL. We all missed our start times, and we all rode in FL. I am correctly listed as having ridden in FL. One of my mates is listed by racetech as having been in EL, and the other one has no results at all. I rode most of the race with him, and saw him cross the line 10 or so after mins after I did, and he wore his chip on his ankle. I got another friend (I gotta a lotta friends) who was seeded AL, but he decided to stay back and ride with his son in El. Him and his son both crossed the finish mats at the same time, bu the son's time is 3.32 and father gets a time of 3.48, which tells me that they timed him from the time that AL went off, and NOT from the time that he went off (with EL). Go figure. It also tells me that anyone who was seeded AL or EL but who started in a later group is not getting a fair shake from racetech.

  22. Ooops. I seem to have ruffled a few feathers. I apologise for my behaviour yesterday...erm, retrospectively. Anyway, the problem yesterday is that I had lots of work to do, but I was feeling rebellious and hateful about it, so i bravely decided not to do any of it.Then i got bored. But I was still rebellious and hateful, so I got on the hub, and saw this thread. And it reminded me of my Dad's valiant when I was five, and of his Ford Fairmont when I was in standard 7, and i thought about about the suspension on those cars, and they way they used to weave and fishtail all over the road on the way to Cape Town (cos, boy, the handling was pathetic). And then i got even more hateful and rebellious, and I thought about my brother's 3 speed Raleigh, and the Telefunken TV with Biltong and Potroast on the screen, and then of the P W Botha finger, and then all the bile of the old world and apartheid south africa came out in my posts. I know it would be prudent to discuss all this with my doctor, but i fear that if I did, I would be gazing out on the carefully manicured lawns of Tara in a Thorazine and Cymbalta induced haze. And, no, before your mind starts working overtime, you can't get those from Chunky, and they will not help you at all in this year's Bakwena.
  23. You can stop now mate, this is a thread that is specifically for us old guys who want to waste our time on old stuff. The new stuff thread is somewhere else. okok. I will run off and pretend to do a bit of work for a change. But before I do, Spud, consider this: I take note that you crossed out my yellow/ brown ref to Conti in the tour, and changed it by saying he still would have one. All very nice. BUT, let the record reflect that you did not cross out my rather crude reference to "old pieces of sh*te". What this tells me is that subliminally, you really agree that these old bikes are just old pieces of sh*te even though you don't know that you agree. Now don't try and deny it cos I really understand psychology. You see, once I registered at Unisa for Psyche 101, and I read a few pages of the study guide (before dropping out of varsity), so as you can appreciate, I know my stuff. PFFFT I understand you better than you know........you see I just happen to be a gynae........ good one
