  1. Unemotionally (but even this title overstated things): Charges dropped in Burry case in Rant 'n Rave Started by TimW, Yesterday, 13:22 Last Post by Gambithunt, Today, 11:52 121 replies 4 722 views
  2. Along with your ability to see the thread running earlier this week as events were unfolding. Dont want to put a little more emotion into that thread title?
  3. Sorry Jax - was just playing with "Land of Dykes" & the greek island "Lesbos". Not insinuating anything about you or your male european partner. x
  4. Lesbos?
  5. How cool is that? Nice going Daryl, hope you can hang around the top end for a while longer.
  6. 40 people die on the roads here every day so its pretty obvious that the enforcement and justice systems are not working. It's no surprise, then, that Burry's case also suffers from this. I think that his people have a much better chance of getting somewhere with this case, than virtually anyone else because of his high profile. The outcry has started immediately so we'll see what the system can produce under pressure. For the 1,000s of others, well I dont know, seems like there's nothing & that includes the recreational cyclists, regularly culled.
  7. Chubbies in sports kit look patriotic but also doff and amusing. If you dont do sport, dont wear the clothes.
  8. On the Giants Castle event they give you a fleece, having bailed halfway through the ride, i gave the thing to no.1 son. It was a hardcore event i didnt want folk coming up to me at other places to talk about it. Still wear a 70s-style Liverpool shirt regularly, but didnt play for them.........that often.
  9. You did more than enough, wear the damn top.
  10. No matter how slow you are, there's always someone slower than you.
  11. That would be "racing snakes" then? I like CC, they answered queries when I had them and usually get the results up super-fast. If they are wrong to add the credit card charge, then they will just make the headline price the credit card price, and maybe discount something off that for other methods of payment. Thread title shouldnt have "scam" so much as "mild annoyance" - but that wont sell newspapers.
  12. Hey Hopefield, you've got 46 posts so you should know that there's a lot of talking goes on in this forum and a lot less cycling - so good luck in your search. Me? I was hopeful, but a) have got mtb anti-crash course Saturday B) am in Jo'burg Otherwise it would have been nice.
  13. You're right, he will have to answer if riding isnt allowed on that trail; but it doesnt diminish the offence of people trying to harm riders on that trail. Like poisoning a bottle of booze and leaving it on the backseat of your car for robbers to find.
  14. Very interesting post - and just took me back to playground politics. Who's in who's out, and it doesnt matter if you bring your new toys or give the cool kids sweets, there's an "x-factor" that decides - and doing that other stuff can just look desperate. Also interesting that it was only the "cool group" that the OP is unhappy with. What about the rest, or are they "not worth it"? So the OP is now the best rider in the club & is taking his stuff elsewhere. It looks like everyone in this situation is part of the same game - looking for acceptance and recognition. And a group binds together partly by who they join togehter to reject. Best to jiggle the blocks and find somewhere you fit in comfortably; but that means relaxing your expectations. Just some views - and i think we're all the same in this kind of thing. Sorry for the hurt that the OP is obviously feeling.
  15. I think that a more personal approach might have got a better result. If someone was approaching me for a donation, I wouldnt want it to happen through a public cycling forum & i wouldnt respond either.
  16. Why is that a factor?
  17. As a kid - wanted to explore, and every day was in the street with other kids. You wanted to go somewhere, you went on your bike. My dad was quite good but had given up before we were born, but was always ok with anything we wanted to do bikeswise.
  18. True, but you cant help the way you feel sometimes either. I dont see me doing a lot of roadbike riding in the suburbs for a while. Your adventures on a bike sound great. I did some similar stuff, rode across London and Paris, but eissh that was more than 30 years ago.
  19. Why is "capital" one of the few words you dont put in CAPITALS?
  20. Well okay, not THAT kind of bottle, though it was a good thread whilst it lasted. Having been a very happy roadie for quite a few years, I've been doing 80% on the mtb for the last 18months. So went out yesterday afternoon on the road bike round Bedfordview, Edenvale, Dowerglen etc. and was perpetually spooked by: Holes in the road Motorists Perdestrians Dogs And i used to be happy bombing through the centre of Jhb out to the Lido and back through Alberton, City Deep etc. It just seems to flippen dangerous, or i'm too old, or its busied up a lot, or i need some of what Happy Martin smokes. But from now on the road its Kyalami and events only.
  21. I'm well ahead of the game, cuz i didnt think about running a triathalon once. On heart attacks, middle of the night (1am-3am) is most common as people's blood is thicker then; & doctors' call-outs are most expensive.
  22. There was a dead dog on the lido route some time back that took at least two years to disappear, but i put that down to the preservatives in dog food.
  23. The article doesnt say this, it quotes somebody else as saying it, and doesnt comment on whether it is true or not - though the tone is mocking. I'll continue to chuck banana skins because my common sense tells me they degrade quickly. Will stop chucking if this turns out to be wrong.
  24. Another sad day on the Hub when a first-poster's shop complaint gets the time of day; let alone four 5 pages. Used CWC once, and it was last week, and it was fine - more than. Pear on pizza? - maybe with stilton, but not anchovies.
  25. Organizers - please can you extend the registration at the stadium beyond 4pm on the Friday? Going from the East side of Jo'burg makes Cyclelab in Fourways a real schlep and it would be good to know we can register in Nelspruit til 6 or 7. it allows for work and traffic problems. Thanks.
