  1. There was a dead dog on the lido route some time back that took at least two years to disappear, but i put that down to the preservatives in dog food.
  2. The article doesnt say this, it quotes somebody else as saying it, and doesnt comment on whether it is true or not - though the tone is mocking. I'll continue to chuck banana skins because my common sense tells me they degrade quickly. Will stop chucking if this turns out to be wrong.
  3. Another sad day on the Hub when a first-poster's shop complaint gets the time of day; let alone four 5 pages. Used CWC once, and it was last week, and it was fine - more than. Pear on pizza? - maybe with stilton, but not anchovies.
  4. Organizers - please can you extend the registration at the stadium beyond 4pm on the Friday? Going from the East side of Jo'burg makes Cyclelab in Fourways a real schlep and it would be good to know we can register in Nelspruit til 6 or 7. it allows for work and traffic problems. Thanks.
  5. Eat and drink what you would normally on a 5.5hr-6.5hr ride. Have a stash of what you like in case you dont want what theyve got between stages. Tog bag - shammy cream would be my top tip; you might want to start with arm-warmers and then lose them after the 1st stage; sun-block. otherwise, whatever makes you happy.
  6. My advice is dont ask for that kind of advice on the Hub. But V12Man is pretty good if you insist on going this route.
  7. Jigghead - you're right to feel that way, its just not going to cut any ice is all we're saying and, no, its not very fair from your POV.
  8. Refund policies are tough on a lot of events, and the drop-out rates between entering and starting are large - 20% or more. It goes with the territory, and if race offices stick to a hard line it makes it a lot easier to manage. Losing 20% of your revenue tends to concentrate people's minds.
  9. You should have done it T; I climbed in a water trough at the end of Stage 2 a couple of years back - it was great.
  10. He's an Under21, down as riding with the 40s-50s, we didnt see him or his mate that came 1st and 2nd in the VB results by such a margin. Maybe they started different Groups at different stages and confused the timers.
  11. Looks like Championchip are struggling to get the results up - unlike them.
  12. I didnt say a drop was being removed, I said a bridge had been built.
  13. At least half the riders at Modds cant ride down that drop. The average ability falls once you get past an 8am start - I start there anytime from 8am-2pm. The bridge was built and just had plastic tape on it stopping it being used - concrete setting? Its (obviously) just above the waterfall connecting to the track that we exit the park from. Goin wrong way on singletrack is grrr unless they pull over and look sheepish, which some do,
  14. Most of the jeep track is bi-directional if there are green arrows on it - a lot of folk dont seem to know that. Agreed on singletrack, there's no excuse. Where did you encounter these guys, Iron? It looked like a footbridge was close to opening to get into the park, avoiding the sharp drop we've had to negotiate. Did that get used this weekend or does anyone know when it will?
  15. A decent, funny, gentle guy, it was great to have met Colin, awful that he's gone.
  16. Cool time away as expected - saw the usual suspects, & met a couple of new folk. Slowpoke in a cow suit - eish it got hot for that from the start. By lunchtime I found the heat was getting to be a problem. Got in under 6hrs, which was ok but the results aren't up - they had everyone at around 9.5hrs this morning, looked like they hadn't split up the stages. I noticed that it was self-service in the chutes this year, and that seemed to work itself out. Agricultural goodie bags still featured. Most notable was the guy on Stage 1 in too small tights - that was an awful lot of flesh and cleavage to put on show anywhere, anytime. Just seemed wherever I moved in the bunch I ended up behind it.
  17. Leaving Jo'burg around 3. staying at Gateway Inn opposite the start, hoping for a great day tomorrow and a bunch to hang with. Usually i come apart 8-10kms from the end of stage 3; semi-recover b4 stage 4 and limp to the top of the last hill - then its the fast run in to the finish, big smiles, beer and chocolate milk.
  18. My list was similar to Fabes; but the best thing is for you to go out at night in June/July for a good cpl of hours, a couple of times & judge for yourself what you'll need.
  19. Road rules dont apply to a training ride of 40-50; whichever way you cut it, it's not going to be legal. In the bunch be strong in your space, if the guy is impinging let him know, subtle-like or not-so-subtle. Its a training ride, so you're training to ride with douches, just like in a race. Talk to others in the bunch and see what the group feeling is.
  20. Hmmm, yeah, and more than that - did it happen?!!
  21. I'm always right; though I thought I was wrong once. but it turned out I was mistaken.
  22. Joggers (see yesterday's thread) and dogs are a constant threat it seems
  23. Neighbour's dog bit the Mrs, we said that if they didnt make sure it couldnt run out their gate we'd get it put down. Friends told us that we could go through SPCA, esp as the dogs had been reported before. Anyway the guy was apologetic and paid the hospital and penned them in. Funny thing was that when i went round to see him, he came down the drive with his 5yr old kid - i think it was "you wouldnt hit me in front of a little kid would you?" - not that i had that intention.
  24. If you felt it needed doing then nothing wrong. Just deal with the consequences. I wouldnt ever try to ride thru pedestrians without consideration.
  25. I dont want to see cameras on helmets, but saying its partly because they change the integrity of the helmet doesnt seem logical if helmet lights are allowed. I'd think they're banned as they're unnecessary, social devices.
