  1. Bells on bikes? It would be interesting but I don't agree with drinking and cycling (at the same time).
  2. It is mandatory - just like a helmet, only we don't like that rule so we don't do it.
  3. +1 to what the gunslinger said. It's usually best to agree with the man with the gun.
  4. I was there end-March and there is a group that goes out alternating between road and mountainbike routes. I didn't meet with them but could probably get a contact. The guy I was with was into quadbiking and those guys have a blast. It must be on trails that mtbs would use.
  5. Sorry to hear Martin, glad ur ok. Am guessing its the Simba chips factory parallel to the R24. Its v quiet there now they've dug up the road.
  6. Hahaha keep telling yourself. By no.3, sperm quality is shot and we really couldnt be arsed, so he was raised by the maid and the cat.
  7. In cycling the genetically gifted can't avoid the hard work; in something like football and definitely cricket, you can,
  8. As Whitney would have said - "It's not right, but it's ok".
  9. Thats not a short walk - how long does it normally take you? Oh, and sorry for the crap you went through - very stressful, esp once the adrenalin subsides.
  10. This post is as annoying as "please help me, I have too much cash and dont know what to do".
  11. Club de Cirque - meets at the Circus, rides a lot. I know their midweek mtb ride goes out at 5pm on a Weds. & they've got weekend road rides Sat and Sun - very nice bunch.
  12. I'm not one much for motivational sayings, but this one seems to apply when it comes to fight, flight or surrender: "If you think you can or you can't, you are most likely right". People must act within their characters, experience & perceptions and one size doesnt fit all.
  13. Nice one Alleyne you gave us a good time today and launched yourself into Hub legendom at the same time.
  14. Sure Andy, I was being facetious. These disputes happen hundreds of times a day around the world and just shows that people need to insure their stuff. Airlines always start off stating what their obligated to pay and its a negotiation from there.
  15. He needs to get a lighter bike. R100k for 30kgs where did he get it - Cycle Science?
  16. Woolworths are great to me, their nice bright shop with lots of nice things in, & they're always happy to relieve me of all my surplus and not-so-surplus cash, making me wait in a queue for 20 mins so I'm really sure i want to give them my money. I'm going to send flowers, maybe I'll buy them from Woolworths because then they can benefit twice. x
  17. Went past there yesterday and the fencing on AG de Wett and others is quite extensive - even the lookout spot is inaccessible now. The local paper often has reports of incidents in there and it must have been used as an entry/exit route for the robbing classes. I can see that its very inviting for mtb'ers, just go in a group.
  18. Golfers (hahahaha golfers, sportsmen hahahaha) - they dont go to all the events; so if the strolling jumpers find it hard, how much moreso proper sport? Same can be said of FA Cup and League Cup and Europa League in football. So many events, so much demand to see top contests, not enough supply of sportsfolk or top efforts possible from sportsfolk. Collectively we ask too much.
  19. Apart from all the good advice on position and set-up etc. I think there's also a part of it that it just happens becasue you're new to the sport and your body needs to get used to it. 1st 94.7 I did, I didnt have sensation there until the Thursday after the Sunday. Over time this came down, along with the erratic splashing, to where it wasnt a problem at all.

  21. Did he get a medal? I dont know if i should respect that someone can continue to be so anal about cycling results at 73 - it does show a certain tenacity. I mostly gave it up at 45 and am happier for it. Even now though I'll be on the website now and again with a calculator working out what percentile i was on an event against another or last year. There's a competitive itch at whatever level. But really this post makes the OP look bad and the rest of us smug. Petition the Argus to start a "Crumbly" or "i need a 10hr cut-off" group and charge them R10 extra for the timing van to stick around.
  22. Rode the mtb event with a guy yesterday who stopped to help a lady from BL who came down, he said she was taken away with a broken arm.
  23. Hey DJpak - thanks for coming on and letting people know in a sensible tone. Sorry for some of the reactions, good luck in getting your stuff fixed up.
  24. Sand-ela but still was fun this morning. Great cycling weekend close to Jhb + a couple of degrees warmer.
  25. Had a good time on the road yesterday riding with Bl. Quite a few helping on the front but 2 guys in different red shirts were the stars. +/-35 of us finished together on 2'54 or so. That beat half of AL I think. Potholes made it look like some national roads in malawi - one was as big as a grave. Lots of shouting and swerving but didn't hear any crashes, just made sure to get forwards for some space and to see what was coming. Good vibe at the end. Sondela have made a lot of effort and its 45kms round their bushveld today. Total ascent +/-5mtrs though there may be some sand.
