  1. There you go. Opened like an oyster. No cracks and a clean seal.
  2. My experience with both under the described conditions is that the Rambler do not last at all on the rear. GK are a MUCH better deal in my opinion. I will never use Rambler again, purely for longivity point of view. The Ravager is a better deal in this regard.
  3. I saw that but I am not interested in a LiPo as I have had one explode on my RC yacht while racing for no reason., Also, do not want to Dremel anything when it comes to batteries or the likes as I am not qualified enough in this regard. The battery must fit.
  4. Thanks for this. Very very expensive indeed. A single 2032 costs R678!!!!! same price as a replacement Varia battery of lower capacity. I think it is better to work off a second battery conected to the new replacement wires coming out of the unit. Thanks for the input.
  5. Dont think it is possible to get a replacement battery with the correct dimensions. Garmin, understandably dont sell the battery but say they will relace the unit at a discounted price. 🥵 What I plan to do is fit an external battery to the unit with two/three wires protruding with a connector. Easy to waterproof afterwards. Still trying to find an internal replacement battery though.........
  6. Will do once I have managed to locate a replacement battery. It looks like a simple task.
  7. Mine must be about 4 yrs old and done many more kms than that. It is in daily and sometimes nightly use.
  8. Many thanks. This is what I am looking for. I found nothing on the internet but you have helped. Source a battery now (as per the link) and I will give it a go. What can I loose.
  9. Has anybody attempted this? My Varia battery is dying fast and need to replace it, maybe with something bigger. I am using a power bank at the moment. Any advice and where to obtain a new battery locally or do I go the Garmin route?
  10. Agreed 100%. I ride with a Varia all the time and it is a warning to me only and I must take any action if needed because I cannot trust a vehicle to have seen me or if they are able to take evasive action. (on the phone etc) It is just another safety feature used in conjunction with bright clothing. I also have a Bobtrager Ion just to be extra cautious.
  11. It would appear Chilled Squirrel are the only ebike motor suppliers. Still costs half as much if you import, including postage. There is a shop in Jhb but beware......
  12. Done this often with Crossmarks. For me it works perfectly and much cheaper. No issues in 4 tyres use.
  13. Agree 100% and I used to stay across the road on a farm. I would avoid that area at all costs!
  14. This Comrades thing and not the 12 hour medal finish! Personal opinion, tried and tested. Not necessary to eat, drink lots of water and swallow a salt tab or two. As for shoes - gym plimsolls will do.
  15. Agree 100%. Been down that route and I am still using my Ryder after 6 years, battery and all. Best light I have owned.
  16. Live track for me
  17. Jussus Diesel, we have never met, chatted or whatever but Wow, ride the Epic under the most trying conditions and then write a very good informative factual report after the days racing...?????.is truly fantastic! You managed to bring a bit of the race to my laptop. Well done and thank you.

    Import tax

Hi All Does anybody know what the import tax would be on an electric bicycle motor? Do I pay VAT on the motor after import tax? Thanks
  19. Thanks once again Droo! Plenty of info here to try prior to stripping and rebuilding the lever. Think I would rather purchase another lever? Thank you.
  20. Gooday All I have Shimano SLX 7000 brakes on m bike and the front brake lever does not want to release properly. The pads are away from the disk so there is no drag there. I have also bled the brake but it does not make a difference. Any suggestions please?

    Inner Soles?

Yes, I always use inner soles. Mostly I use the Specialised ones with the adjustable insole but they can be expensive. I use bigger shoes than I normally use and put inner soles inside, this works for me over several days of cycling.
  22. All the best. Keep us informed.
  23. Same thing with me, same leg. Had to drive 150kms after the "Race" and then climb three flights of stairs. Took three days for medical to come to the party. Should have gone to your Doc as I walk like a crayfish now.
  24. I am currently using the 9 sp Sunrace 11-40 but it it is not as good as the Chinese 11-42's I have been using. Half the price of the big brands and last virtually the same time ....in my case anyway.
