  1. I love this debate and all the remedies, because there are lots out there. I first read about sanding the back of the pads and using a thin film of lubricant on MTBr forum which seems to work in some instances. I've even heard that you can check your hydrailic hose routing where it touches the frame, simply wrapping insulation tape at that point has also been known to stop squeeling brakes. What i have worked out, is the noise is what is known as resonance as a result of vibration emulating from the the brake caliper. this vibration resonates through different parts of the bike depending on the design, type etc etc. So finding out where the vibration is, is already 50% of solving the problem. I recently changed my brakes from XO to XO Trail on my superfly 100 FS. I did not have any noise with either set. However i recently took off my ZTR wheels to have them tightened and re-trued so i used my STD Bontragger wheels in the mean time. Presto !!! i got the dreaded Turkey Warble. the noise is only on the front and coming from the wheel (i used the rotors that where on my ZTR's). which i suppose one can assume the noise is because of the wheel and not the brake. so now i'm messing around with different ideas to see if i can get rid of the noise. when i check the spoke tension, my Bontraggers are a lot tighter and more rigid than the ZTR wheels. so i'm leaning towards that maybe the spoke tension is to high. I also have a different hub on the front of the Bontragger wheel being the standard one as opposed to the EVO i have on the ZTR's. I believe stopping this irritating noise is a lot of trial and error due to the different designs in bike frames. suspension and brake systems.
  2. I fully agree with you, they should have simply fixed the buckle at no charge, and they would have had you as a customer in future. My comment was a merely an observation.
  3. R50.00 for a SIDI buckle, you got off cheap they normally R200.00 for the set
  4. He is there racing elites - not sure how well he going to do though - lets hope he brings SA some good results as well. Kyle Dodd is also doing elites, I understand they been putting in some hard training prior to going over.

  7. I have a TREK 470 on my indoor trainer. Its a Chrome Molley frame. I recently changed it to a 1 X 8 speed with only rear brakes and strait handlebars with an 8spd MTB shifter. Awsome commuter bike and very comfortable.
  8. thanx, will def. be investing in one as soon as they arrive
  9. Is the 661 available in SA, and where do we get one
  10. Is this area Dowerglen by any chance ?
  11. I have a policy with doctors, it's actually very simple. If i make an appointment for 4pm and only get to see him at 4:30 then he waits 30 days for every 5 minutes he kept me waiting. I also wait for them to hand me over to their debt collector and then i go pay the doctor direct and tell the debt collection agency to get knotted, if the doctor contracted them to collect his money then he must pay them. Normal payment protcol is 30 days from date of statement, mine is 30 days from date of final demand. All you do is phone their accounts department and *** them out for not sending you the invoice in the 1st place. works every time.
  12. Make sure you drill a 3 - 4 mm hole (at a point where you want the slot to end) before you cut that slot, or you will run a crack down the seat tube.
  13. jetline charging 63.50 per pic WTF !!!!! :cursing:

    oopsie

I've run KCNC pulleys for months on my MTB and never had a problem. Noise is never an issue, theres lots of other noises while riding in the bush. The big gaps do get clogged but are easier to clean than the plastic ones.
  15. I trust you offered the video to the insurance companies for a fee of course (they would pay good money for footage of the accident) and to ABI to use in the drivers hearing
  16. And at 20 ZA ronds a hit, its a bargain Thanx
  17. As an amateur photgrapher myself, i must commend you on the quality of your photos. These are far better than anything i've seen from those so called pro companies that shoot races, and then try charge an arm and a leg for copies. Pity you could'nt be at more than one place at a time.
  18. There is a biiiig secure parking lot at the start with car guards
  19. heres a quick fix Just go buy AVIDS......problem sorted
  20. Don't simply accept what LBS say about your chain length being correct. Check it yourself, there are lots of chain length calculators on the net. My bike was initially assembled by a LBS and I found the chain 4 links too long. they never checked or shortened it, simply removed it from the packet and installed it. I did the chain calc thingy, shortened it and no more dropped chains. also check your B screw is set properly - you can google that as well if you want to know how to set it properly google and youtube is your friend
  21. Just one question....How often did you clean your chain properly ? and I mean by actually removing it and cleaning it 100%. In addition if as you say there is very little difference between wax and GTX then you already saving money. Wax lubes costing over R 100 for 100ml is a lot more than a Can of the best.
  22. I think this would be like having a 40K Nikon and shooting on auto all day. Or like kissing your sister "tastes the same but just doesnt feel right" Getting to know how a suspension works for you and dialing it in manually on your different rides is what its all about.
  23. I used to do heart rate training and never really got anywhere. so I went off to Cadence Training and signed for an 8 week course, mainly to understand how power training works. I have a TACX Flow with a Power Meter but never understood how I could use it properly. One thing I learnt was it is easier to train in different power zones than it is to train in heart rate zones. If your set says "power zone 3 for 6 min" then you can get into that power zone very quickly and do the 6 minutes. with heart rate zones i found i would either over shoot or undershoot the zone and 6 min would become 10 min trying to get a full 6 min in a particular zone. also Power / Weight ratio means more to me than heart rate. If its increasing with a constant weight, then i know i'm getting stronger, and i can improve on 2 fronts being fitness or strength as well as losing weight. I spent a lot of time getting from 97 to 85 kg, and not prepared to drop too much more so now i work on FTP and do a FTP test on my IDT every 8 weeks and reset my power training zones accordingly.
  24. I do the same, then pull out my mini SQUIRT bottle filled with GTX and a bit of chainsaw oil lube up and i'm good to go for the next 50km wet or dry conditions.
  25. You found it crap because all dry lubes are just that !! A can of Castrol is all you need and it will last you for years
