  1. I suppose i'll have to be patient for them to launch their proper range in Campy and SRAM
  2. Anyone have or know someone who has older COLNAGO's laying around collecting dust in their garage or store rooms ? Please PM me the details. A couple of us are putting together a collection as a hobby. So we completely refurb them back to their former glory and add them to our collection. We currently looking for:- Steel Frame any C40 MK2 or MK3 Dream B Stay preferably size in 57 or 58 (ctr BB to ctr top tube)
  3. That would be a right hand thread then, so not such a big trainsmash. As I mentioned above it might not be badly stripped and simply needs to be cleaned by chasing a tap through it. If the peddle still doesn't tighten then you be needing to have this done http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/pedal-bushing-repair-kit-procedure Any self respecting LBS should have the kits and be able to repair the crank.
  4. You need to find a LBS or engineering company with 9/16" X 20 TPI tap. Right hand and left hand. The left hand is where the problem is, not many people have such an animal. Also depends on how bad its stripped, sometimes a cleanout with a tap will fix it enough for the pedal to tighten, If its moertoe then you need a special bushing kit ParkTool sell them. In my opinion probably faster and cheaper to look for a new crank
  5. No I want to upgrade my trainer not replace it
  6. anyone know anything about TACX trainers and what is available as an upgrade I have a TACX FLOW with T1901 brake unit. I want to upgrade so i can use a tablet with their or 3rd party app on a tablet, instead of the normal digital readout mounted on the handle bar
  7. cool Video
  8. I did the 1st Juma 54km, it was the most fun i had with my clothes on. As for the carnage, last i heard it resulted in 19 hip replacements and 3 broken ankles, its not a race or ride to be taken lightly, especially if you lack MTB skills. Be careful if its your 1st, rather walk the tricky sections and enjoy the ride and the finish. The biggest complaint was the bottle necks, hopefully they been sorted by now.
  9. Just for the record - I rode 2009 - strongest wind recorded was 60km/hr - this morning the stongest recorded was 100km/hr - good decision to cancel the race - it would have been carnage out there
  10. BigH - Hahaha my old Campy hating mate - Die Padbouer. I sometimes wonder where he is now.
  11. Another cracked SCOTT !!
  12. I know a number of people having problems with this Iwatch they took on this deal. Mainly not picking up heart rate while playing tennis etc. Has anyone successfully returned it and got out on the agreement based on this ?
  13. At the risk of damaging the bolt if you not careful. try this. Position the bearing on a hard surface like a vice. Position a cold chisel on the outer race and smack it with a hammer to crack the outer race, once its cracked you should be able to pull the outer race off with the balls, if not, then turn it and smack the opposite side to fracture it in two places. Once the inner race is exposed then do the same procedure. Once you cracked the inner race it will slide off fairly easy. Use safety glasses, bearings like to shatter when you smack and break them. Removed lots of stick bearings this way - works every time
  14. Ive been on Vitality as long as I can remember and been on diamond for about 4 or 5 years now. I also have 4 policies, don't know how they calculate but i get huge money back every 5 years. latley I've been getting reduced monthly premiums as well. I get notified by sms how much money i've save on intergrator or something. So i dont know how the systme works, all i do know is if you are on Diamond it save you big money. I also have a discovery card so the discounts at the partner stores are huge Nandos -20% Cape Union Mart -20% I bought a Garmin 500 there on special for R 2 999.00 next month I got R 600.00 cash back so i paid R 2 400.00 Sportsmans Wharehouse we were looking at the Garmin 520 which is about R 6 625.00. But here I get 25% off up to a maximum of R 4000.00 spend so I would have got R 1000.00 cash back and actially paid R 5 625.00 on it. So if you on blue make the effort it's easy to get to gold. In fact this year its even easier. 30k points for activity - look at the levels - for a 120+min device workout you get 3000 points. I did a 2:40 night ride at modders on Wed a similar ride at NF on Sat and a little 1.5 hour ride at Rietvlei on Sunday and got 7 500 points for the week. Like taking candy from a baby
  15. Don't get me wrong i'm certainly not knocking your courses, but i am a business man and been in business many years. So when i see the amount of money and effort that has been invested into your academy with state of the art tools and workshops, and being a passionate cyclist i see something that the industry desperately needs and i'd hate to see it fail. My business brain (as small as it is) tells me that your fees won't allow you to leverage your target market being the LBS. The risk is higher than the reward. Reduce the risk, get more people through the door too make it successfull. Once you are accredited, the reward is much higher and you can charge a higher fee. I'll come see you when GOOGLE and Youtube can no longer provide me with solutions LOL. PS. Nothing wrong with a recognized 1 year apprenticeship for bicycle mechanic. I used the Diesel Mech. appyship for the sake of the discussion. Picture this : A kid comes out of school with a matric and is a passionate cyclist. Cannot find a job (very real in this country) a 1 year recognized apprenticeship and he is a lot more employable than he was with a matric. He could even start his own business.
  16. MarkMad....I have a backward twin LOL I agree with you 100% but unfortunately the NQF levels are the only thing we have in our inept system, as stupid as it may be, companies use it to identify what level your qualification is. so if I have a degree from an overseas university which is given an NQF 7 then it would be the same as a similar local degree which places me at the same level of qualification. In theory its a good idea and BTW we had a similar system back in the old days (damn there i give away my age) where if you came into SA as an expat with O levels, the Education dept would award you a Highschool certificate which was similar. Based on this you were placed in that repsective standard to finish your schooling in SA (if i remember o levels was supposed to be matric but you were issued with a std 9 cert enabling you to write your matric certificate) The Dip / Degree NQF 7 level argument is also as old as the hills. some of us did the old NTC blocks and were issued with National Certificates (NTC3 or Matric level) National Diplomas (NTC 6), some did T blocks up to T4 and were issued with National Higher Diplomas. the others went to varsity and did BSC degrees. so which was the higher qualified person? The Higher Diploma guys said they were because it was 4 year post matric qualification. The National Diploma guys said they were the same as the BSC guys because both were 3 year post matric qualification. But if you wanted to write your Goverment ticket (for mech or elect engineering) and you had a BSC you could not and had to go to technicon to do T4 or college to do NTC 6 to be allowed to write. At the end of the day, companies had to decide if they wanted a qualified person with all the theory, they employed a BSC degree and if they wanted the same person with the practical experience they employed a Nat Dip or Nat Higher Dip. Today most courses have their Dip set at 2 years and the 3rd year gets you a degree, so Dip gets NQF 6 and Degree gets you NQF 7 (highest level) stupid I know because i'd like to know what a Masters is or a 7 year doctors degree ?? You cannot discredit the system as stupid as it is, because if companies want to claim against their skills levy, they have to train their staff and only accredited training courses will qualify your claim. You cannot simply send your staff on any course, get a certificate and claim. This course, as great and expensive as it is, falls into that catagory.
  17. My thoughts ekzakery !!!! However he was kidnapped in Yemen which is next door. Trip advisor says that Oman is safer than London and a good tourist destination. Needles to say, any westener traveling to the middle east has got to have rocks in their head.
  18. Thanks for the response and clarity on your pricing structure, maybe as a suggestion, clarify this better on your website price lists, as when reading it on face value it seems expensive and could chase prospective customers away (as i read it to be over 60K) Even with your prices now being clarified, i still think it's over the top. If i was a LBS, there is no way i would pay that kind of money to qualify my mechanic who could then simply leave and go work for another LBS down the road for a few hundred ronds more. the labour law also doesn't allow me to tie him into a contract to ensure he stays in my business for a period after the certification so i can get a return on my investment. With no NQF level this is not a recognized qualification in SA. so unless the recipient is planning on immigrating to the UK it has no value over here. The same problem exists with many UK varsities offering diploma's and in some instances degrees through local higher learning institutes which are not recognized for a NQF level. when applying for a job, companies want to see the NQF level or they will not consider the qualification. Good luck with QTCO, they are about as efficient as ESKOM. The only way i see value in this system, is if there is a recognized trade as a bicycle mechanic which would be a 2 or 3 year trade, with these courses forming the theoretical training of the trade and be a minimum requirement to write a trade test in order to qualify. (the same as a Diesel Mechanic who needs to do 4 years and complete at least NTC 2 or 3) Now a LBS would be able to legally lock an apprentice into a contract and get a tax / skills levy rebate, as well as a ROI from the apprentice working in his business for the duration of the period. I think you are cutting out a huge segment of your potential market with these kind of prices. People like me (the so called back yard mechanic who do it for fun and not really a living) as well as people (like me again) that would love to sponser my garden technologist, to get him a formal trade/qualification so he can get employed and earn a sustainable income. But good luck with the venture, that is one kickass workshop, which i can only dream of owning one day.
  19. 2 day Home mechanic course R 4 400.00 Huh !!!! that seems very steep, and do they teach you anything more than what you could learn off Google and Youtube. The trade full courses will cost R 61 300.00 for 25 days of training. Is the certification recognized by any goverment taining authority and if so what NQF level will candidates be given by the National Qualifications Board. Does the course fee include tools of the trade, manuals etc or is this just the course fee.
  20. New "Queens park Rangers" team
  21. I'm surprised they havn't included disc brakes
  22. Obviously i'm a SRAM fan as well, as i'm a weee bit impartial to Shitmano, I mean i don't hate Shitmano i just think they shyte. I run XO Trail brakes and they are as awsome for me as they are with the OP. You mention a wealth of experience with both brands but seem to bash SRAM with Turkey Warble, well as informed as you are, you should be well aware that Turkey Warble is not brand specific, it happens on any brand and not all the time with every bike but only sometimes on some bikes. The reasons are many and not only specific to the brakes. Whilst the source of problem starts at the brakes, the noise is actually the vibration resonating through something else on the bike. Finding that "something" else is the key to fixing the problem. It could be the rotors, spokes, wheel rim or even the frame. E.G. I have have never had Turkey warble with any of my SRAM brake setups. And i've had a few different septups since venturing onto the dark side. the other day i changed my ZTR wheels for my spare set, and presto!!! i had the warble when applying front brakes, I removed the wheel, remounted the rotor with some loc-tight, tensioned the spokes, Warble sorted !!! so it was either the rotor or spokes that were a bit sloppy. And heres another example. Trying to sort an alu frame bike warble on the rear brake, i was walking next to the bike while the rider was moving slowly on a downhill while applying the screaming brake. On looking closely i realised / saw the hydraulic brake pipe was vibrating against the frame, when i held it between my fingers the screaming stoped. So we wrapped the hose with some electrical tape and thin sponge ...problem sorted..... and yes it was a Shitmano setup. learn and understand the reasons of resonance and vibration before singling out a specific brand with a turkey warble problem.
  23. Had the same problem, tightening the spokes a bit solved it. At lower pressure the wheel will flex a bit more making the spokes rub against each other.
