  1. Maybe in Durbs you refer to jeep track as single track but down here in the Cape single track is just that so you really cannot zigzag very much and 2 bikes do not fit on the single track abreast.Seriously think this chop is just miffed that a unicycle was ahead of him??
  2. Stop crying, you were behind him,it was a single track so YOU need to make a plan if you want to pass??
  3. Ok so here is a real spanner in the works-all I have is 2 pieces of rope over the rafter in the garage with eyes tied at the ends. One eye loops over each side of the bars and the other 2 over the seat.Hey presto and I can do nearly everything that needs doing and I have R1300.00 to spend on upgrades??
  4. Join us at Meerendal(normally)on Sunday morning at 09H00 for the "slowcoach" ride with the Tygerberg MTB club. Also having a slalom fun competition at Natida on sunday 28/08/11 ,come have some fun and meet the club members??
  5. My 2 daughters and myself pushed our bikes up the new section last night, trail pushes well so thums up!!
  6. Hope the cyclist is ok and that his recovery is speedy!! Right that said let me now don my flame suit. There is a dedicate cycling path in that area, not a painted line,a dedicated path.As for the safety issue on the cycling path well I will take a mugger any day over a car or taxi hitting me?? Every morning I travel that road and there are always cyclists,if you all used the cycle path well then there would be safety in numbers. There is no law against riding on the road just as there is no law forcing us to wear gloves but we do to protect our hands.Us cyclists have just as much right to be on the road but why can we not be the bigger person and take the safer route??
  7. Option 1 works a treat for me and as for the forward/backward movement well a strap made from velcro around the BB and the rack holds evrything together and stops the movement?
  8. Teaspoon of glucose, teaspoon of fructose a litre of water (pinch of salt) and away you go!!
  9. Please "tread" carefully!!
  10. Feel really sorry for you Fruity, you are a poor student wanting to have some fun.I am in the same boat just I am 42 have 2 children and can only afford a Schwinn. At my age I should be able to have a fancy bike and be flying on it.**** life just ain't fair but that is life, suck it up and make a plan!! I am thankful for the bike I can afford and for the rides and races that I can attend,so stop crying and be thankful for the things you DO have!! The youth of today needs to learn to deal with life and stop moaning cause life does not get easier the challenges keep coming till the day you die.
  11. Schwinn MOAB Elite about R6500.00 if you can find one, stunning bike for the price!! Give Henbar a call at Cycle Teknix 021 556 8207,you will not be sorry.
  12. Sad that your service was so lax. When I started out 5 months ago I went to a few cycle shops in Cape Town, well apart from Cycle Teknix in Table View were I ended up buying my bike Glen at cyclelab in North Gate gave me good advise and spent a lot of time explaining things to me but never tried to pressurise me into buying anything.
  13. Best option if you are just starting out is a pedal that is flat on the one side and has a clip-in on the other side?? If you go for cleated pedals please remember that most of them have a allen key screw that sets the tension so if you set it really loose your shoe will come out very easily(a bit of advise that nobody shares till you have fallen)
  14. You can go by car or by bike and it costs nothing??
  15. Cycling to Melkbos/Koeberg on Saterday.
  16. Torque to 5nm = torque wrench(R1000.00) Loctite thread lock = R80.00 and will last forever(you do not have enough nuts and bolts to use up the bottle) A spring washer or two will also work a charm unless you are a weight weenie in which case you are looking at a extra half a gram!!
  17. Loctite is for the thread but the grease goes on the square so that as the crank gets tightened it seats properly and does not bind before it has seated properly. I would not use the loctite on the crank!!
  18. Always torque a square taper wet - that is with grease, not without grease. My guess is that your bolt was not tight enough to start off with or, you didn't grease the axle before putting on the crank. This bit of advise from JB is probably the most important part of the whole operation imho.
  19. Ok so after all that the answer to you question is: Use Loctite thread lock but the non permanent one ,with the permanent one the nut is never coming loose again but the non permanent one will loosen if you use a spanner and a bit of force.
  20. Your bike and the 400 are in the same condition, you like the 400 and the 400 has better components for a extra R500 it is a bit of a no brainer?? What would it cost you to upgrade your bike to the same spec's as the 400,bet you going to fork out more then R500!!
  21. If he was in a race was he cumming first??
  22. Sorry if I offended you but I never stated that it was you who did not pay?? I was refering to the many cyclists out there that think it is a luck if they get away with not paying cause they are doing us all in??
  23. The DS track at natida is a load of fun and most people enjoy it but here is a thought. It's too short ,it needs this and that......well it was built by Tygerberg mtb club to further the sport. They have also built and upkeep nearly 120km of tracks in the durbanville region.Yes they have 1400 members but still the funding does not really cover all the upkeep and new projects. If us non members paid our R25 day permits or put the money in the honesty box well then maybe the DS track would be longer and would have this and that?? The guys and girls from the club who build and upkeep the trails give there time and energy freely sothat the rest of us can enjoy ourselves so maybe we should offer to help out one saterday or at least pay our R25 before we complain so easily??
  24. Just a thought... Someone wants to sell a bike, good chance(99.99%) that they have a cell phone which should be rica'd.Dealer asks for their number and phones it to make sure it is their number. If anything ever happens well then at least we have another way of tracking the person down??
  25. Really wish that there was just one size wheel 26",27.5"or the 29". Then we can all just go back to ride to the best of our ability?? Have some fun out there,it's just a bike and it will only be as good as you are!!
