  1. I've got a pair of Specialized MTB shoes - very comfy, never really notice my feet if that makes sense.
  2. YES! Someone whose BMI is lower than mine!
  3. 184cm 64kg
  4. I took my Ford Fiesta in for a service around about the same time as end-of-the-month-Salticrax. Told them it must just be standard service and they should phone me for anything funny because I can't afford lots of bells and whistles (which I couldn't). Anyway, they phone me to tell me that two goodies were broken (can't remember which goodies they were). So I said ok how much and the total for the parts + the service ended up being almost exactly what I had left. And then he told me how much the labour would cost so I told him that I can't afford to replace the parts and that he should just finish the service and I'll take my chances until payday. He didn't charge me for labour which I thought was very nice but what I thought was interesting was that they said it would be 2 hours extra labour to replace the broken parts although my car was ready for collection at the same time as they had originally said it would be.
  5. Lovely mental image.
  6. Can't imagine how light you and your bike have to be to have a GU wrapper make you noticeably heavier.
  7. I am so shocked. I used to live in PE and cycled with Kim a couple of time and she was a phenomenal cyclist and a lovely lady. Condolences to her family.
  8. I saved up for a long time and then also set myself a goal - if I could do a certain race under a certain time then I felt I deserved the bike I have. After the 94.7 last year I bought my Look. So to each his own really - some people really feel the benefit (the pros), some people just want what they want.Alida2009-05-18 02:10:10
  9. Zeroplay I can't say I find my SRAM Red hoods uncomfy - if anything they're more comfortable to me than when I'm on the bike I have Campy on. I'll take a look tonight and see if I can see anything funny or different between the way the two bikes are setup (bartape/hoods/bars/cables etc)
  10. And now Holy is all quiet? You got to 20000 and stopped??
  11. Must admit I'm a bit dissappointed - thought the magenta boa would have at least been in the pic
  12. Could that be the bunch that goes around the marina?
  13. How about something whereby if you've had good dealings with someone then you send a PM to Admin or one of the mods and they can then verify by checking out posts and getting in touch with the person. If all checks out then they "up" your star rating? That way there doesn't need to be huge development of a selling/buying module and someone that has a personal issue with someone else can't just give them a bad rating.

  15. Tend to agree with fandacious. Has your resting HR increased over the past few days?
  16. Got mine just over a week ago - applied in November.
  17. Yesterday was completely insane. I couldn't move under the bridge on to the highway - just stood against the wind trying to fight my way forward. Eventually someone pushed me out (when the next bunch was saying WHOOPLAH!!) Then I got on to the highway and fell over again - and had to hold on to my bike to keep it from blowing away. Having said that I made it to the finish in one piece and survived. Will try for a good time again next year.

    CSA License

I have gotten two mails (a while apart) that confirm that my license has been received and approved etc etc. I just take that letter along to every race along with my old license and haven't had any problems with any of the race organisers yet. So if anyone has received a mail like that, just take it along. I'm sure the Argus organisers know about the license problems by now.
  19. I agree with "The Mighty Dictator". His prose may not be of Shakespearean proportions' date=' but the points he makes are valid: - cyclists are NOT allowed to ride two or more abreast and we have to accept that until the law changes; - some cyclists DO hog the road and **** every one else. I know because I have either ridden with some of these morons or seen them on the road. - I appreciate it when a motorist gives me a polite hoot to let me know he is coming up behind me. It means he is looking out for me and it gives me a chance to ensure I am keeping left. I wave to him (and not the one-fingered wave, either) and it makes things much more pleasant for both of us. - any cyclist who thinks he can argue with 2 tons of metal, no matter how right he is, is in for a surprise. I know, because I felt how much the car hurts when I hit one. Not much... I walk, I run, I cycle, I ride motorbikes, I drive cars, I drive trucks and I drive armoured vehicles so I have no bias. Some motorists are pigs, but the so are a lot of cyclists. I reckon the problem is that when cyclists pull on lycra it often restricts the blood flow to their brains. Cyclists are often their own worst enemies and until we sort the cycling scum out, we are always going to all be labelled the same... [/quote']
  20. Ok here goes ... I've read through this thread and read through the one on CarToDay and just saw someone post the following on that site: You know, whether its legal or not, one needs to apply some common sense. I've ridden with Roastie in the UK, I ride a motorbike, and I drive cars. I can understand most of the argument from all sides. What everyone seems to think, is its their "right", as with the majority of the country, to do as they please. End of the day, what is their "right", is not necessarily the smart thing to do. Roastie and I would ride 2 abreast on little country roads, and when cars were coming, move to single file. However, on A and B roads, we NEVER ride side by side, regardless of whether there are cars. I ride a motorbike, and ride it defensively. While its my right to be on the road too, standing by my rights would have gotten me killed. I've moved over to allow passes and such. Cyclists riding abreast are being silly. There is a large speed diffirential between cycles and cars. Cars will need to pass, and they will get impatient. The same happens when there is an overloaded truck or something doing 10km/h up a hill with a blind corner, people will try overtake. Riding with a little sensibility will ensure a better sharing of the roads. I'd love to see any counter argument to this. End of the day, bicycles are the minority on the road. They are also the ones that have no chance in a collision. Why they'd put themselves in danger because its "their right" to be there is beyond me. Whilst I don't think much of the posters on that site that think its helluva funny to try and scare/clip/hit cyclists this poster (think his name is KillBoy) has a point. As cyclists we have the right to ride on the road. But with rights come responsibilities, in this case the responsibility to obey the law. As many have already said, legally we as cyclists must ride single file unless overtaking another cyclist. So its quite simple ... if you're riding two abreast and someone hoots at you, you've not upheld your responsibility and therefore have broken the law. Don't get all agro and flip the motorist one regardless of what you think of him/her - you've broken the law and you're wrong. It doesn't help saying that motorists are impatient or also jump red robots - that's just childish. Its tragic when a cyclist gets killed and sometimes the motorist is to blame and sometimes it is purely an accident and sadly, sometimes the cyclist is to blame. I think an attitude "shift" is the only thing that is going to make a difference. If you're in a bunch on a busy road and you get hooted at, rather just back down, move out of the way and lift a hand to say you're sorry. You might just change one motorists point of view. Somethings got to give somewhere and why shouldn't it start with cyclists?
  21. You'll love it. I'll take good care of you. and besides you may be lucky enough to see my famous dance in the' date=' er, flesh[/quote'] Still got that lovely boa?
  22. Is that a "add me to the list" ? yes please - are you aware of the new annual entry which is available for 500 odd rands for entrance to all tswane reserves for cyclists? well you can but one from the fountains entrance. A colleague has such an entry. I bought an annual ticket in November last year (R410-50) but it is only for Groenkloof. It is well worth it if you use it at least twice a month. They let me through the gates without having to do all the paperwork. conor wanted to know why it said "elvis presley and sons" on the last sheet i filled outthere have been some interesting guests in that place? And people say the King is dead ...
  23. Hey Mandibles - you know I've been threatening to get to Groenies so add me and my boyfriend to the list. I'm going to have to face up to something slightly more technical than the side of the road sometime
  24. Don't forget your helmet.
