  1. I used to run at night in that area Saffa - always been dark. Down Atterbury towards De Ville Bois is just as dark. There are lights I think - they just don't work.
  2. I guess I can Oiltrash Just never thought that they'd actually MAKE me cramp - the whole point was to make me feel better Anyway, have been experimenting with a more diluted solution of Cytomax now and it seems to be ok - not often that I get to cycle over 100kms in one day though so the real proof will only be in next years Kremetart I guess.
  3. Discovered the weirdest thing during the Kremetart ... some history quickly - I always used to train on Energade, never cramped, started training on Cytomax and despite actually feeling better I started getting cramps - end of history. So in the third stage of the Kremetart I start cramping - every pedal stroke basically just saved the one leg from cramping and so on. I picked up two of the water sachets that they were handing out and drank those down (was pretty sick of Cytomax, gels, Gu and anything sugary by that time). Shortly after drinking the plain old water my cramps started easing up!!! Now I don't think training on plain old water is going to sustain me for very long and I quite like the Cytomax - my question is am I maybe mixing it too strong that I'm not getting enough hydration so to speak?
  4. For me it was a safety thing ... I still prefer my road bike but if I can't train somewhere safe or in the bunch on the day then I hop on my mountain bike.
  5. Never had a problem with Polar until I got my new laptop with Vista on it. Welcome back "the Dreaded Blue Screen"
  6. That is so true. I have two trainers and they keep each other company in the garage. Neither of them have seen a bike in a looooooong time.
  7. coming back to this... would it have been the right thing to do if the cop/lead car 'intercepted' the other car? interesting quandary for the driver. i certainly think so. the death of one driver to save the lives and health of many cyclists would be worth it. I think that knee-jerk self-preservation reaction took over. Possibly when you're faced with being ploughed into as the driver was faced with you just react without thinking? I'm not saying that the driver shouldn't have tried to stop the other vehicle by crashing into it (the race vehicle is obviously in better nick and would probably have survived a crash).
  8. I'm not really all that squeamish but man did I cringe when I saw that pic!!

Its ok - I know what you mean. It wouldn't be the first time someone nearly drives into me because its apparently ok to try and do your make up whilst driving down the N1 to JHB in the morning traffic.

Congarong - I think every cyclist that rides their bike is there because its worth it. Surely none of us are out at the early hours because we don't want to be there?? And like many have said so far - you can't hide away worrying about "what if this" or "what if that". You'll never live! Oh and Fandacious - I really regret leaving my flame thrower at home today
  11. You ride with two week-old manky energade??
  12. Hmm this is interesting. One of my colleagues took her 720 in that wasn't working and got the same response (and a new 725X )
  13. You guys are way braver than I am!! Cold weather I can do no problem. Wet weather I can do no problem. Its when the cold and the wet get together that I woos out.
  14. Even if just for today Wheelsuck its neat that at least something was done for you

Of all the things I can imagine picking up while out training, a whale's backbone never really entered my mind
  16. That is TERRIBLE!!! I'm always so worried in the short bit I have to ride from where the club meets to home - I can't imagine how scared your friend must have felt. Is he ok?
